Yeah, even a more comprehensive front covers reprint would be good - I'm pretty sure there were a load of ones from Shimura that were missed.

Suggestions / Gawd bless Denise and gawd bless Rebellion!

Received all my GNs, including my free one, yesterday and have to say I'm greatly impressed by the service.

Spoke to Denise and she said the demand had been so great that they'd had to order a reprint, which can only be good for 2000AD GNs as a whole. Hopefully, we'll see this offer repeated next year - it really is the only way I can afford to buy GNs.

I hope Denise is enjoying soaking up the sun after all her hard work!!!

I must say my only disappointment was the lack of 'bonus' material in the GNs. Swimming in Blood had a mini history, but I think Shimura would have benefitted from a reprint of the Robbie Morrison Meg interview (though it was probably written after the GN had been produced) or some background of the genesis of the character. Same for Robohunter and Red Razors methinks ... just a thought for future issues.

The tallest block in the city is Hen Broon Block, which is a favourite Mega City fact of mine.

I thought the tallest was the MC1 museum? I seem to recall that skyline that was published aaaaages ago had it on its factfile ...

I've just sorted LongLass's Christmas presents through eBay ... it was touch and go for a while as to whether I'd be outbid, but I'm slowly getting the hang of the concept of 'maximum bid' ...

Patrick Stewart Make-The-Trekkies-Go-Away Stock Anecdote #222: Stewart once had to act alongside a grain of rice, which was being used as one of the villains in ST:tNG..

He even managed to squeeze that anecdote into theatre show about his interpretation of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice ... (you could hear the Trekkies in the audience sigh with relief as they'd had to sit through two hours of Shakespeare for one reference to Trek - the show was even called Shylock: Shakespeare's Alien, so you can't blame them for buying tickets...)

Patrick Stewart Make-The-Trekkies-Go-Away Stock Anecdote #126: The early ST:tNG lycra uniforms were so tight that they used to give everyone back pain. Stewart's chiropractor warned him that unless he stopped wearing them, he'd have permanent back damage.

Still, wearing them around the house was probably unecessary anyway ...

I stand by my opinion that the whole article, and parts of TPO came across as Bishop whining that it wasn't his fault. Okay, if stuffs been paid for you use it, that's applicable in most businesses, but to wait 10-15 years to moan about it, well there's just no need. If you aint happy with stuff that's happening at work either do something about it or get another job.

He DID do something about it, he tried his best to fight against the pressures being placed upon him. This was a fantastic feature that didn't actually pull its punches. He held his hands up to the mistakes, but at the same defended himself when something wasn't his fault.

Now, without sounding like the local NUJ rep, just saying "if you don't like it, leave" is not only the attitude of INCREDIBLY poor management but also suggests a lack of understanding of why and how people work. If you enjoy your job why the hell should you have to put up with whatever shit is thrown at you? There is an inordinate amount of pressure put on editors by the advertising/commercial wings of a publishing company that must be dealt with through compromise, detente or downright war. The article didn't come across as him "excusing" what happened. It was a rather frank and honest account of what happened during that period. David has time and again apologised for some of the crap that happened at the time, but he has quite rightly stood up for the bits he's proud of. There WERE bits that weren't his fault - you only have to see how publishing works to understand how many decisions are completely out of the editor's control. But he's been man enough to stand up and admit he made some mistakes - unlike some who'd occupied the same position.

"I got told by the boss to stop arsing around or quit and go freelance. I'd have no chance of making a living as a freelancer so I had to put the crayons back in the box and concentrate on commissioning stuff worse than mine."

I really, really, really can't see how you arrived at this one. David wasn't offering the point as an 'excuse' as you say, it was a simple statement of fact.

And anyway, I'd rather TPO be by someone who was there at time than not.
