Announcements / DROKK goes Orbital!

Team behind DROKK album to perform live at London's Orbital Comics

Invada Records has teamed up with 2000 AD and Orbital Comics for a unique event at one of the top comics venues in the capital!

Founder of Portishead, Geoff Barrow, and soundtrack composer Ben Salisbury, will be performing extracts from the album live at the store on 16th May from 6.30pm.

DROKK is the pair's 'soundtrack' for Judge Dredd's world, creating a soundscape befitting a nightmare 22nd Century megalopolis filled with criminals and crazies, and policed by authoritarian Judges.

With free admission it's bound to get busy, so make sure you're early for the comics/music event of the year!

Orbital Comics is at 8 Great Newport Street, London WC2H 7JA

Why not do a cheap "catch-up" pack of just the recent Dredd stories, packaged as an electronic download?

Scroll down.

The new issue of Comic Heroes comes on sale this Wednesday, and includes a great feature on everyone's favourite rogue – Nikolai Dante!

Robbie Morrison and Simon Fraser talk to the mag about bringing the tale of the Russian adventurer and ne'er-do-well to a close later this year. There is also an article on women in comics, which features the ultimate 2000 AD anti-heroine Halo Jones.

And Dredd fans will be able to wear their love on their sleeve (well, keys) with a zarjaz Judge Dredd keyring!

Filled with Thrillpower, Comic Heroes 12 is on sale NOW! You can order copies here http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/film/comic-heroes-magazine-subscription/?ns_campaign=comic_heroes_12&ns_mchannel=extl&ns_source=blogs&ns_linkname=comic_heroes&ns_fee=0 or online through the Apple Newsstand app or Zinio if you're not an iOS user.

Get your chance to write for the Judge Dredd Megazine!

Prose fiction was a staple of the 2000 AD and Judge Dredd annuals and specials over the years – in fact you can download right now from Amazon a Kindle edition of Sweet Justice, a collection of past Dredd and Anderson stories by the likes of Neil Gaiman, Peter Milligan, Alan Grant, Mark Millar and Dan Abnett, for a mere £2.22 – and now in the Meg we're reviving the tradition with a Judge Dredd short story competition!

Entrants are invited to submit a piece of fiction no longer than 2000 words set in Dredd's world – Old Stoney-Face should be the central protagonist, but you can use other established characters such as Anderson or Walter the Wobot for the supporting cast. The winning tale will not only be published in a future issue but the writer will also receive a replica Mark II Lawgiver courtesy of our friends at Planet Replicas! The two runners-up will also be published in future issues of the Meg.

Email your story as an attached rtf file, with your name, address and email address at the top of the document, to the Dreddlines@2000ADonline.com address. The closing date for entries is 23 May 2012, so get writing, creeps! Alas, this competition is only open to residents of the UK and Ireland.

No proof of purchase necessary. No cash alternative to prize will be offered. Winners will be notified by email. The editor's decision is final!

all very well putting out a free comic for free comic book day

We don't. We provide the content, FCBD prints the copies. It's essentially their comic book, not ours.

People keep saying this. I don't understand. All we keep saying is: no spoilers.

Seriously: don't tell us what's going to happen before we get a chance to read your comic. That's all.

I don't see what's wrong with saying that.

Unfortunately, I can never guarantee that my promotional work will not spoil a storyline for someone. Maybe we could have done these teasers differently, but that's by the by now. The response to them has been incredible, and we've got more interesting stuff to celebrate the Dark Judges' return to come.

Ultimately, my job is to increase sales of the comic book, if that means sometimes revealing beforehand that a particular issue is the one to get because of an important development - an oft-used strategy to drive sales - I will do so. I'm sorry if people feel this spoils things, but my entire drive this last 14 months has been to change the way we talk about what we do. I would hope that gone are the days when things appeared out of the blue with little fanfare before disappearing into nostalgia - it means we squander excellent opportunities to spread the word about the Galaxy's Greatest and it certainly doesn't encourage people to pick up the comic.

I did notice there's no melee combat or stealth kill options

The game has a stealth kill 'neck break' feature, not sure why it's not in the demo. Have you sneaked up on the guy?

why isnt this stuff available from the 2000ad shop ?

Because they're licensed products, rather than ones produced by 2000 AD.
