Cinema Purgatorio 7 gives great anthology - even has the one strip I don't like, which all good anthologies should of course!

Just put this down a few minutes ago as it happens, and it had one strip I didn't like either- a misprint of last months full episode of The Vast!
A howler in this day and age, and I'd be more forgiving if it didn't cost €7 an issue.
Still, Moore & O'Neill are delivering some cracking one-offs in this series.

If another Judge Dredd movie happens, Willem Dafoe for Judge Death please.

My vote goes to Doug Jones, tall, thin, great actor.

I'd be in the don't-bother-with-The-Dark-Judges camp (for the Dredd movie-verse), but Jones would fill the role absolutely perfectly.

He killed it in The Strain this year.

...and Michael Carroll about continuing the 'Every Empire Falls' saga in January.

Did we know about that? Did I just miss it? Intriguing.

I watched the fantastic Room at the weekend.

I'd managed to avoid spoilers, so went in completely blind.
A really thought provoking film with wonderful performances- highly recommended if you haven't seen it already.

Nothing like a Death Star to bring hope to the galaxy.

Another month, another Image sale on Comixology.

I'll be havin a birra that.

Monstress & Papergirls are on my wishlist anyway- can't pass the first collections up at those prices.

As for stuff I've already read- I would heartedly recommend Prophet (bizarre sci-fi with a 2000AD flavour) and Sex Criminals (laugh out loud funny).

So; Reese's Peanut Butter is now available in Irish supermarkets.

My risk of contracting Type II Diabetes has increased exponentially.

It's the writer for me.
I know what I like at this stage, and can guess what the general quality of a comic will be based on the writers name alone.

So I'll pick up Unfollow cause Rob Williams is writing it, or Providence & Cinema Purgatorio based on the fact Alan Moore is writing them.
I've been reading Batman on a monthly basis since 2010- but that's been following one writer (Scott Snyder) as he's moved to three different Batman titles.

There are always exceptions of course, and also artists that I find have strong enough appeal to turn your head regardless (Francavilla, Corben, Simonson to name a few).

Fortunately, as a 2000AD fan, I'm guaranteed excellent comics to some degree on a weekly basis.

Hopefully it's a complete collection- there were a few one-offs in Sci-Fi specials & Yearbooks if I recall.

He did script and art for strips in Deadline. If memory serves, it was a character called Carla Allison, with nice, kinetic b&w art.

Indeed he did. That would be some of Stevie's favourite art of John's too.

Well- another reason to pick up back issues of Deadline at some stage.

Then we watched As Above So Below on Netflix, which looked like it'd be a bit of a lame neutered Hollywood attempt to emulate something like [REC] (the writer/director apparently did the US remake of that), and it took us completely by surprise. Really, really enjoyed it. It's basically about a Lara Croft-alike who gathers a group to head into undiscovered areas of the catacombs under Paris to find a stone that grants eternal life, and what occurs is a slightly odd combo of [REC], The Descent and The Goonies. Sounds weird, but the solving riddles and finding treasure adventure angle really blended well with the horror, which is really effectively claustrophobic in places and captures a bit of that found-footage rollercoaster intensity that the best ones manage.

Really didn't expect much, and we all agreed it was a rollicking good time.

I'd echo this 100% Keef.
Picked it up for a fiver last year on DVD, with nothing but low expectations (partially based on the poor TV adverts).

Black Hammer is a surprisingly good.Well,consistently good at this point.

Some real buzz about this, I'm sorry I missed the boat.
The first trade is on my 2017 radar.

My pull list has dwindled an awful lot this year, but I'll definetly be picking up the first issue of Snyder & Lemire's 'AD After Death' this coming Wednesday.

Not that I can recall (the wealth of visual gags in Dicks notwithstanding).

I had a chat with John regarding his 2000AD / Dredd work a few years ago, and he was really enthusiastic about working with IDW again on Dredd (having really enjoyed his stint on Mars Attacks Judge Dredd).
Looks like they finally got round to it (albeit without Al Ewing).
