It was an excellent opener, I always liked the Dibneys in JLE they had that thin man vibe you don;t get anywhere else, where marriage looked fun. Now -sniff- it's all over.
Still looking forward to the next one,

Jim -who didn;t cry for Jean Grey but had a lip wobble for poor Sue and Ralph

Got unexpectedly lucky once with someone I'ld liked for a long time after a long afternoon in the pub.
Imagine my horror when I realised I was wearing my scooby and shaggy boxers.

Two morals moral here:
1. always wear good kecks, you just never know.
2. If not there are very few underwear crimes you can;t brazen out with the aid of my good friend Jose Cuerava.

Thought I'ld read some of his articles to see if I'ld been brainwashed by the Mail in the 80s. I think it's fair to say his article  on "Inter generational sex" would strike a lot of people as odious, and he does come accross as an unpleasant zealot in a lot of his work.
Waht I will say for him is that he will challenge Islam and other areas normally shied away from by liberal commentators, so theres no question he is displaying personal courage, I just dont agree with a lot of what he says and does.

Hmm not sure about that, it just seemed a particularly cruel thing to do forcing people out who didn't want to be. But like I said the Mugabe thing was pretty gutsy.
And I believe civil ceremonies should be available mainly because its the right thing to do but also to see which newspaper is first to use the headline "the gay divorcee".

Peter Tatchell is an odious little turd, and
"Outing" people was a terrible way of taking away some ones right to choose whether to revelal their private business.
However... he showed balls of steel trying  to do a citizens arrest on Mugabe so now I'm all confused.

"churches that consistantly tell them they are sinners."

Er they don't, one of the biggest churches in the world, the Anglican is currently tearing itself apart over the issue with a lot of Western Bishops preaching acceptance and their African equivalents arguin the opposite. There was a very good documentary God is Black on Channel 4 recently on the issue. I don;t want to start yet another religion friend, but there is a great deal of ignorance about the Christian Church, and I get a bit fed up of the views of people who haven't been for twenty years and take their information form the views of what ever ranting Paisley wannabe is on the news this week.
If the Church was monolithic and homophobic then there wouldn't be this massive issue at the moment.

Good cast too, the book was good solid pulp but for some reason seemed to be reviewed as something literary. Looking forward to it.

  Battle Field '84

Its 1984 in an alternate Britain, a Britain  whos only hope is Ben Elton: Freedom Fighter.
In his shiny suit of justice he must fight the Evil McWhirter/ Greene Junta who rule these fair ilses, forcing facism and light entretainment on a stricken country. Having disrupted the Royal wedding of Prince Charles and antique loving lady fake Lauren Harries with a hard hitting monologue about tampons the state are desperate to crush Eltons resistance. Police cars hunt for Elton, their sirens playing the Benny Hill theme. desperate to crush his right on attitude and maker Britain safe for Rascism, Sexism and the Tory way. Inspector Davison won;t stop tryoign to "Nick, Nick" his curly haired nemesis.
The Mcwhirters have secretly recruited Record Breakers as Team Guiness State Security police, can even our hero outrun a man who can jump over busses, create a terrfiying domino effect of dominoes or talk backwards? One things for sure dear readers, Ben won't sell us out.

Jim - if I can just squeeze in some vampire Nazis thats all my obsessions covered.

I liked it, but I think the point about focussing on AHAB was spot on, since the demise of Torquemada the comics lacked a really good villain to  focus on (Judge Death veers about too much in tone) and we almost got one here.
Would defiently be interested in seeing more from the same writer though, maybe the artist could do something alien free for a bit.
