The thing to remember about Death is that he is not a 1930's Republic Serial Villain, to his warped way of thinking he is the hero of his stories trying to liberate people from there lives. As such understated sounds reasonable, as long as he's capable of losing it completely when his plans fail.

The problem with the poll is I have no idea about how far in advance a prog is completed how many stories are archived for later use etc. With Macmanus, Burton  and Mcenzie this is fine as they were there so long but when looking at "the return to Greatness" it's hard to know whether it was Bishop or Diggle who got round to the neccessary surgery. How long into an editorship is it before some one had an issue that they completely commissioned?

My favourites:

1. The VC s: reading a mates Titan reprint got me into 2000 AD in the first place luring me away from Eagle and Battle.

2. Judge Dredd The Pit: Dredd as I wish he always was an epic without needing a "world in peril plot".

3. Slaine: the Horned God : in hind sight padded but on first reading blew me away, couldn't believe the quality of the art in comparison to what I was used to else where.

4. Nemesis The Gothic Emppire, great concepts, great art the last Nemesis I really enjoyed.

5. Rogue Trooper Cinnabar, Rogue as Gothic horror, shouldn't work but it did.

6. Nickolai Dante; Sharpe and Flashmans bastard son running aroubd a Russian Feudal future? Great stuff.

7.  Button Man: modern urban crime  a change of pace, beautiful art great stories.

Be interesting to see people's Non tooth Brit favourites Alan Grant and Eric Bradburys Doomlord and the beautiful art of Ian Kennedy on 80's Dare would be up there with the best.

I heard Captain Hurricane was McNasty's drinking partner and Tharg helps out in the Soup Kitchen which feeds Big E and other homeless fictional editors.

If it was the Charlton charachters then Doc Manhatten would be Captain Atom, IIRC they had similar origins.

I think Mills is very talented but he's been a one trick pony for too long, if you look at Alan Moore over at ABC he gets all his interest in Qabalah out in Promethea leaving the rest of his titles polemic free. Maybe if we could print Trotsky Pagan Monthly the Mills imagination could get all his feelings out there and return to writing the kind of thing that got me into comics in the first place.

When read backwards in a bizzare reverse of 70's heavy metal Lovecraft gives the message "Jesus loves me this I know." Creepy. I can see Pat Mills burning Dagon as I type this.

Obviously I'ld like to sell a future shock, extra income = nice, but I'ld like to get my act together before i submit one, hence my request for criticism, if I start to think I'm good I'll probably get protective of my babies but at this stage it's open season.
