QuoteNot being funny, Radiator, but you could just hit 'Save' a little bit more often... I know it's hard when you're doing something creative, but...

Well, you'd think, but when you are working on very large files as I do, saving a file can take ten minutes or more, so saving can actually waste a lot of time if you do it too often (saving once every hour means 1/6 of your time is spent staring at the desktop), not to mention increasing the odds of the computer crashing - as this mostly occurs mid-save.

Blimey- how big are your files?!?

Crashing while saving is something that happens to me a lot more than I'd like too.  I think my average size for a file is around 500MB- but sometimes as much as 7-800MB.  Things start to creak a bit, but it's never taken ten minutes to save a file!

Can you not reset your mac and reinstall everything from scratch?  I know it's a bit of a pain- but it might be the way to go if you really want to go back to CS3.  I'm using CS2, but only because Snow Leopard won't run my beloved Photoshop 7.

I look forward to loosing for the fifth year in a row!

No, I'm not bitter... not at all...

Chin up, mate, I always vote for you (even though you can't spell "losing").

At the risk of invoking Big Al's ire, I do know somebody that was irritated that Al Ewing was up for 'Best New Writer' because he isn't a new writer- which is fair enough, I suppose.  If you're going to have a special category for new talent- they ought to be new, I guess.

Maybe there should be some sort of definition of "new" for those categories. Though exactly how it might be defined I've not got a clue. I mean, I'd like to win "Best New Writer" (or even just be nominated, hint hint) but given that my first professional comic strip was published in 2007, I'm certainly not new...

-- Mike

My own personal opinion is that if it's proper professional comics work that you were paid for, then you're not new, no.  You have to go up against the big boys!  Not everyone agrees- and that's fine- but personally, I feel like I had my moment in the sun and it's only fair to give a proper newcomer the same exposure.

That said, if it was a single Future Shock and nothing in print since, that almost doesn't feel fair to you. Swings and roundabouts, I suppose.  It's easy for me to draw a line under it myself because I was lucky enough to have 120 pages fall into my lap at once, which is a very definite "I'm here and working in comics" scenario.

Booked in.  I don't know why I'm complaining about the price though- it's the bar that sucks all my money!

WTF?!? An extra £90 to stay at the Ramada this year?!?  I don't think so- looks like I might be giving it a miss after all...

Have you seen the Ramada link on the website with the special rate for conference types?

No- I usually ring the hotel direct.  This time, I got put through to some call centre, where they didn't know what I was talking about and quoted me the most ludicrous price ever.  Will have a look at the link- cheers!

Many congrats...

It's easier to list who he doesn't owe a pint...

Just to add: Having looked at the Wikipedia entry, Best Newcomer seems to be a pretty new thing- so what do I know?  First glance shows Declan Shalvey up for the title twice- but that's who I think deserved to win it last year.  So again- what do I know?!?

:D

I don't know.  Long story short, I'm open to accepting 'Best Artist In The World- Ever'.  All vote now, please.

Let the inappropriate nominations and vote rigging commence!

You got your nomination for "Favourite Newcomer Artist" last year, let someone else have a go ;)

Believe it or not, I actually agree.  I think I got nominated two years running, but the awards were cancelled the first time around, which is why I was happy to be nominated a second time.  That said, there's only so many times you should allow yourself to be put forward for 'Best Newcomer', IMHO.  Generally speaking, I'd say it's once.

Not everybody agrees and I don't hold it against anyone who accepts the nomination again- but really, being nominated in the first place is an honour in itself, I think.  Winning is just the icing on the cake.

Not really- that makes him sound almost important.  Which he isn't.  He's forum cancer.

Sorry for the inconvenience but there is one obsessive loon and a lot of spambots so people do occasionally get caught in the crossfire - it is either this or nothing I'm afraid.

Emperor eh?No overtones there then.To quote the great professor of philosophy Dr Pepper -whats the worst that can happen? :-*
He's a bit like the Matrix in that nobody can tell you what it is he does- it's just something you have to experience for yourself.  I can tell you that in 10 years, I've only ever known two people to be banned from this place- and he's one of them.
