Finally got around to watching the last two parts of this last night- brilliant stuff.  It really puts the likes of Torchwood to shame, IMO.

Looking forward to the second series.

Quote from: "TordelBack"Logan has a soldier's perspective and offers a soldier's solution, and that's more than understandable - given the direct choice between being shot at or blown up from a distance, and putting your opponent out of action when you have the chance, who wouldn't.

That was my take on Logan's comments as well.  He has an entirely different perspective on the situation than practically everyone else on the board and some of the replies he got were... well... stupid, given his background.

I also realise that it's easy for me to give my opinion when I don't live over there.  Although a lot of the action happened over here, I've no doubt that the 'little' stuff that didn't get reported on, that was happening day in and day out in NI, was, in its own way, far worse than the 'big wow' moments that we had over here.

Quote from: "Matt Timson"Oh- and if you're going to quote me, at least quote me in context.  What I actually said was, failing a peaceful solution, I'd be just as happy to go back to having the SAS shoot them in the back.

didn't work the first time.

Are you sure?  Maybe Gibraltar was just the tip of the iceberg.  As Logan says, it's not like a lot of the key players were unknown.  Maybe the British Government simply got tired of playing it by the book and a peaceful solution became the only solution for the IRA?  100% conjecture on my part, but it's something I've always wondered about.

Now I know we have a couple of really slow readers here- so I'll try to make myself as clear as possible.  I would always favour a peaceful solution over conflict.  Always.  That doesn't mean that I would ever advocate a 'sit back and wait' approach until one is reached either.

In other news- I was pleased to see that people from both sides were actually out on the streets, in force, condemning the killings.  This can only be a good thing.

Thanks- I didn't even know that was up.  I'm always the last to know these things!

Oh- and if you're going to quote me, at least quote me in context.  What I actually said was, failing a peaceful solution, I'd be just as happy to go back to having the SAS shoot them in the back.  You see what you did there?  You completely altered my point of view from 'peace first, fight later' to just 'fight'.  Selectively editing what people say isn't really a life skill, you know.  It's cheap.

Frankly, this is exactly the kind of slobbering idiocy I was talking about.  Witless indeed.

Please do foe me, by the way.  My time for pointless arguing with equally pointless, posturing, morons is severely limited these days- and I'm sure I will get over such a crushing loss very quickly.  If it helps, I apologise for showing you up in the first place.  I should've known it was more trouble that it was worth.

Stay lucky, now.

Quote from: "Mikey"I, like the Alliance Party, will remain in the middle and propose that everyone remain calm - let's not get into who should've killed who.

With all due respect Matt and not wanting to get this flame going, it's easy to say that you'd be happy for that to happen when you didn't live through it.It's a fucken shame those two soldiers and that policeman were killed and I'm glad it hasn't kicked everything off (hopefully).

M.

Yes.  I did say failing a peaceful solution.  What's your alternative if that fails?  Do nothing?  Good luck with that.

I can see that this thread will either descend into a cringe-worthy exhibition of back-pedaling (or stupidity) pretty quickly- so I think I'll leave you to it and move onto something less brain-bleedingly irritating.  Maybe a religion thread.  Or one about MACs v PCs.

Quotewe should have put bullets in the backs of their heads when we had the chance.

I was going to post something to the effect of how moronic a statement this was and more, but why rise to that?
What is needed is restraint in the face of provocation & a unified condemnation of anyone advocating or perpetrating violence, and that goes for this website &  Ireland, where I'm from & where I hope decency & compassion will prevail.

And yet you managed to do it anyway.  Well done on your high moral stance.

I too would like a peaceful solution- but failing that, I'm just as happy to go back to having the SAS shoot the naughty rapscallions in the back.  I'm pretty sure that had something to do with getting them to the table last time...

Quote from: "House of Usher"Got my comics today, and they'd put a copy of Impaler #2 by for me. The story-telling looks really wordy and dense, and the artwork is quite marvellous! For all I know on the subject it looks influenced by Bill Sienkievicz. And it's better than the art in #1, which was already pretty striking.

I bet your Bill Sienkeivicz influenced pages were the dream sequence- right?  I confess, I was thinking of his stuff when I did them.

Quote from: "Kerrin"The Impaler collection vol.1 I ordered turned up today (thought it would be a good idea to familiarise myself with what was what), and after reading that I moved on to the new one. 'Kin awesome. Don't want to sound like some sycophantic lickspittle but that artwork is properly good Matt. Seeing how much work went into each page I'm not surprised it took some time to produce, but the effort was well worth it. Hope you make some decent money out of it in the long run, I'll definitely be buying any more that get produced. How come we don't see more of your work in the prog?

Thanks- I really appreciate it.  The main reason you don't see my work in the prog is probably because I've never submitted any to Tharg!  I've always liked the idea, but the reality seems like it's fraught with opportunity to make a nob of myself (even more so than usual).  I also think that part of me enjoys being a fan too much to spoil it by turning it into a job.

Plus, there's that constant fear of rejection...
