And I'm quite sure he could have sat in his bus all day, and done the job he was being paid to do (and from where he could not see the ad anyway).

Are you serious?!?  He can't actually see it from where he's sitting- so it's ok?  Did you really just say that?

I'm a bit of a traditionalist here, in that I think you do the job you're fucking paid to do- you be professional about it and don't let your personal life affect how you do it.

I'm not sure what this has to do with my asking you how the guy is making a "clumsy religious point", exactly- but now that you've mentioned it, off the top of my head, I can think of one or two instances where I would refuse to do the job I was being paid to do- and I bet you'd back me for it as well.

The guy doesn't want to drive a bus that is essentially dissing his religious views- and I think that's fair enough.  If he wouldn't drive the bus because the company refused to let him have a 'Jesus saves' bumper sticker on it, I'd agree with you.

Quote from: "Hanne Stinson"I have difficulty understanding why people with particular religious beliefs find the expression of a different sort of beliefs to be offensive

That's because you're stupid and offensive, Hanne.  You don't believe- fine.  Why go out of your way to annoy those that do?  It's hardly the intellectually superior option, is it?  What's really worse- those 'deluded' enough to believe in God- or those pitiful enough to mock them for it?

As previously mentioned- both irritate me- but I know which irritates me more.

QuoteThere was a driver refused to drive a bus with the first one wasn't there? Shoulda sacked the fucker!

Well, if it turned out he did this at every bus ad he objected to, then I'd say fair enough- but if he was doing it to make some clumsy religious point- show him the door!

Assuming (and I am assuming, because I know nothing about this at all, other than what I'm reading here) that he refuses to drive the bus because he finds the advert offensive to his beliefs, how is that making a clumsy religious point, exactly?  How else should he register his displeasure?  Set fire to the bus?  Go on a killing spree with it?

I had to sit in church for an hour today- and I didn't particularly enjoy myself either.  That said, I managed to do it without causing anyone else any unnecessary offense or anxiety.

I really dislike religious types telling me what I should believe- but, strangely, I dislike atheists doing it even more.  Both sides are capable of their own brands of fundamentalism that, in all honestly, makes me want to punch people in the throat until they just shut the #@£$ up.

Ignorance is definitely a two way street.

A good 6-7 inches here.  Brilliant!  I was out in it at 7 am and out for a walk with Lottie by 8.30- we walked for miles!  highlight for me was watching people attempt to drive in the stuff.  Highlight for Lottie was watching me slip over on my back in front of a group of giggling girls.  Most uncool.

Rubbish accents?  Dick Van Dyke as a cheery cock-er-nee in 'Merrry Pawpuns'.

The defence rests.

It's worth pointing out that, if I'm taking the time to argue with you, you're probably wrong.  People could save themselves a lot of time and effort- not to mention the pain of humiliation- by embracing this simple truth.

Quote from: "Tiplodocus"Bloody Hell, Timson, this is the Internet.

There's no need to apologise or anything.

Just pretend you didn't amkle a mistake, call the other person a name and then keep twisting and weasling your words until it makes no sense to anybody with the slightest idea of how the English language and logic and reasoned arguments actually work.

Or just keep typing and typing and typing mince until people lose the will to live.

Either works fine for me.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm always happy to admit my mistakes- whether they have to be pointed out to me, or if I realise that I've erred myself.  It just doesn't happen very often because I'm usually right.

I assumed it was some dead clever code that means we're all ninnyhammers.  Or something.
