General / Droid Tweets.
11 May, 2011, 06:41:29 AM
Yes I know there's a Droids on Twitter thread that gives Droid tweet names but how about having this thread to post any 2000AD related tweets from the Droids? For example, this morning Si Fraser has tweeted that he's working on a '58 layer' Dante family tree but here's the shocker, he says: "This is where I admit my shameful secret, I have not read ALLl of Nikolai Dante! Gonna have to!'

Diavolo! I don't believe it!!!

General / Art compos of yesteryear...
29 April, 2011, 06:12:23 PM
Aaaaah, I've just spent an enjoyable hour uploading some of the shite I've entered into the art competition over the years to Deviantart. The memories have come flooding back, who can forget such classics as Judge Morphy Underpants, the entire Dante saga in six panels or Fargo's Spunk? What do you mean you forgot 'em?

You can see 'em here: http://wellsybeer.deviantart.com/gallery/ Utter, utter shite, no wonder I've never won owt...

I am available for portfolio critiques, Photoshop/PowerPoint advice or to give art tips to aspiring artists.

General / Saint Jon Davis-Hunt!
27 April, 2011, 11:53:52 AM
Holy heck! The postie came today with a big tube for me. I can't remember ordering any artwork so imagine my surprise when this frigging AWESOME A3 Dredd picture by Jon Davis-Hunt was inside!

What a lovely gesture! Jon has always been an amazing supporter of my blog (his step by step breakdowns are definately among the best) and I was looking forward to buying him a pint to say thanks at Kapow. We missed eachother and so he sent this A3 'sketch' along with a lovely note.

I'm absolutely beaming, what a lovely, lovely guy. Woohoo!

I want to book a room at the Ramada for the Friday and Saturday nights at Hi-ex next year. It'll cost £176 with brekkie if I get a single or £210 for a twin with brekkie.

So, does anyone want to go halfies (£105) for the two nights?  Warning - you have to be able to cope with my legendary snoring, until now only the mighty Commando Forces has been able to cope!

Help! / Ant Wars!
21 April, 2011, 06:47:33 AM
Gah, our house is infested(ish) with ants! We noticed two or three of the little twerps a few days ago and then we've been away for a couple of days we came back last night  and there were about fifteen of the little gits on the kitchen floor, about ten in the dishwasher (yuck!) and five all going mental on the litt'lun's Calpol!

We went apeshit with the Jif cleaner last night but on waking this morning I've callously murdered about twelve in the kitchen and...

(Pete goes off to check...)

Seven of the little shits in the hall! Ugh, I'm all itchy as I type this! I've done a cursory Google to see what we can do but has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone offer any advice?

Megazine / Meg 309 - Tripping the Psight Fantastic.
26 March, 2011, 08:43:41 PM
Another strong Meg with the Death of Dredd question being addressed strangely early.

Cover - A great S B Davis cover which holds great intrigue for the Anderson strip.

Dredd - for some reason, Tharg can't bring us the final part of Hot Night in 95 (aaaaaagh, I can't wait another month to see what's the matter with Hershey!) so we're treat to 'Dredd Set.' Liam Shap's art, for the most part is freaking amazing, just like the James Bond episode in the Christmas Issue. However, some panels near the end lack the incredible detail of the rest of his work. I wonder if he was asked to submit his work early to compensate for Hot Night? Still a fun story with some cracking in-jokes and, in places, breath taking art.

Anderson- A real action-packed starter with, as you'd expect, lovely art by Boo Cook. There's a nice nod to the Judge Minty film in panel one and a superb DPS that's filled with fun little Dredd references - Pie In The Sky, skysurfers, weather control, Chopper and more. I can't tell you how much I love Boo's colouring, it makes my pages glow! All good stuff!

Numbercruncher - I adore this, it's genius. The premise itself is clever enough but then add the accident gun, iskins, organic architecture, triple crosses and recirculation algorithms all wrapped up in PJ's ingenious two tone artwork. Just brilliant.

Insurrection - speaking of brilliant, this strip takes a very sinister turn this month. The rebels continue to find clever ways to get one up on the evil Justice Dept. but I fear face hard decisions in the future. Colin's artwork is magnificent and I can't for the life of me work out how he's made those simple robots on the last couple of pages so unsettling. Ace!

Not read the articles yet but we've got - interrogation of Lawrence Campbell, a review of a new Alan Moore biography, an article on Flesh, Dreddlines and film reviews. There's also a fabby Ian Gibson Dredd-based floppy, yay!

A cracking Meg.

Off Topic / iPad2
25 March, 2011, 11:29:48 AM
So, anyone getting one of these?

I reckon I will, I adore my iPad 1 and have got a couple of people interested in buying it for about £200. I will be a sad git standing in line at the Apple store tonight!

Anyone else?

General / Dredd pub game?
13 March, 2011, 09:44:04 AM
I was swanning around on DeviantArt the other day (man, it's hard to stay out of the 'Artistic Nude' category isn't it?) and I came across some cute little stylised Dredd pictures. I contacted the artist to see what they were from and he said they wee designs for a proposed Dredd pub game. Let's hope it goes ahead!

Here's the images:

I like 'em!

Prog / Prog 1723 - Halt!
26 February, 2011, 09:56:01 AM
A fine, fine prog today folks!

Cover - Excellent stock Dredd by Nick Percival, love it!

Droid Life - Very funny as usual.

Dredd - Absolutely stonking episode this week, full of imaginative, intelligent justice department procedural shenanigans and a wonderful cameo on panel 1 of page 2 that I won't spoil! Great to see Roffman back, he's such a horribly brilliant character. Excellent stuff all round.

Shakara - More wackiness from Morrison (who we probably don't credit half as much as we should) and Flint. Wonderful dino-aliens and a brilliant cliffhanger. Fantastic.

Ampney - Clears up my confusion about the time period as mentioned in the podcast and ends on a good, if confusing, cliffhanger. Did they escape or not...?

Necrophim - an enjoyable ending which I for one didn't see coming. Funny little in joke at the end aimed at some of the naysayers I think!

Kingdom - Superb. An excellent twist in the final panel.

Really loved todays prog, thanks Tharg!

Games / Best PS3 games?
21 February, 2011, 01:48:46 PM
I bought a PS3 a little while ago (I've got an XBox 360) and am enjoying playing all the classic games.

My faves so far by a country mile have been the Uncharted games and I also really enjoyed God of War 3 - despite not playing 1 or 2.

I've just started playing Metal Gear Solid 4 and am not really enjoying it at all - loooooong talky bits, a tiny bit of action then more long talky bits.

So, my questions are, is it worth sticking with this and what else should I play? In my 'to play' pile is: Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet 1&2, Killzone 2, Resistance Fall of Man, God of War 1&2 and Haze.

Have I missed anything?

General / New 2000AD Commissions Blog!
19 January, 2011, 10:05:55 PM
Right then, despite the fact that I sometimes find it hard enough to keep up with my covers blog, I have foolishly begun another one!

This one is called "Yes Commissioner!" and is going to showcase mine, and hopefully other people's, 2000AD related commissions. I want it to show the highs and lows of the commissioning process and also be an informative resource for those wanting 2000AD related commissions. Most of all though, I want it to show freaking arsom artwork and the stages involved in their creation.

I've done the intro post here: http://yescommissioner.blogspot.com/ and hope to get a sample post up tomorrow night.

As I said, I want to tell the stories of other people's commissions too, so if you've had one done and want to be on the blog, please get in touch! I'll certainly be getting in touch with some boarders over the coming weeks...

Lets see how it goes!

General / COVER OF THE YEAR 2010 - THE RESULTS!
10 January, 2011, 09:59:46 AM
Thank you to all that voted, as mentioned in my voting post, the spread of votes was fascinating with most covers getting at least one vote somewhere.

So, bubbling under with a healthy amount of votes were these three toppers...

Well done to last years winner D'Israeli who got LOADS of votes for his McCarthy Dr Who cover and was in the top three all the way to the end. Also congrats to Mark Harrison with his "Knock Knock!" Dredd cover which, in hindsight, has many elements of the new Dredd movie in it...

So, in third place, congratulations to Judge Dredd himself, Mr Greg Staples for the cover of Prog 1690 - Chief Judge Dredd:

You can read about it's creation here: http://2000adcovers.blogspot.com/2010/06/every-now-and-then-cover-comes-along.html

In second place (and in the lead all the way through until Friday!) was Jon Davis-Hunt's brilliant cover for Prog 1700:

You can read about the making of that cover here: http://2000adcovers.blogspot.com/2010/08/jon-davis-hunts-legendary-prog-1700.html

Aaaaaand the winner is... (Pete opens envelope, pauses for dramatic effect...) PROG 2011 by Simon Fraser!

And you can read about Si's creation of that cover here: http://2000adcovers.blogspot.com/2010/12/festive-fraser-cover-of-prog-2011.html

Congratulations to Si, a worthy winner indeed! That particular cover got the most hits on my website too!

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to vote and well done to all artists for a brilliant year of covers!

Over on comicartfans.com I spotted this lovely Dredd image by Ian Richardson. He hasn't done a tonne of work for 2000AD but claims he wants do more. On this evidence, I'm up for it!

General / COVER OF THE YEAR VOTE 2010
19 December, 2010, 04:52:34 PM
So here is this year's cover fo the year voting thread! I'll be putting clean, unlettered versions of every one on this thread, ordered by month, so please don't post until I get to December!

If you want to see bigger versions of the covers, then go to either the Vault the homepage of this site, Barney (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=covers) or my humble covers blog (http://2000adcovers.blogspot.com/)

I sugegest we vote first, second and third place with only one vote per placeplease! I'll award three, two ad one points respectively. Okay, let's kick off with January:

1666 – The year kicked off with a classy Simon Davis cover for Ampney Crucis which beautifully matched his previous one for the series from Prog 1612.
1667 – Clint Langley reveals the identity of graffiti terrorist 'The Urban Fox' as none other than Ro-Jaws.
1668 – Karl Richardson creates a mean and moody masterpiece as Dante finally squares up to Tsar Vladimir!
1669 – The arch-criminal of Olde London town, Sickleback by D'Israeli. Check out my blog for an ace fully coloured version...

General / Wanna see my LEIGH GALLAGHER Commission?
07 December, 2010, 06:24:26 PM
Okay then, but hang on to you hats 'cos it's bloody excellent!

As Leigh is the undisputed king of horror, I simply HAD to get Judge Death from him and this little beauty is what he came up with...

Wow, it's absolutely beautiful, if that's the right word! The line work is AMAZING, so delicate for such a grotesque image!

Here's the rough sketch:

Here are the pencils:

It's absolutely stunning and Leigh was wonderful to work with - excellent value for money and very quick (just a couple of weeks from start to finish.)

Happy Christmas to me! I'm getting the rest of the dark judges next year, woopee!

Games / Xbox Kinect.
12 November, 2010, 06:33:27 PM
I got one of these yesterday and, although I haven't had much time to play with it, am pretty impressed.

It seems really responsive, even in fairly low light conditions and the voice recognition is great (it understands mackem!) I've had a quick try of Kinect Adventures which was fun and am looking forward to getting more familiar with it over the weekend.

Just waiting for some better games now...
