General / Can I have a Sinister Dexter Update please?
13 November, 2007, 08:03:57 AM
Just what it says on the tin. Unlike some of you I do enjoy the strip but I'm a bit confused about where it is at the moment, namely clones, aliens and Kal Kutter. Can some kindly boarder give me a potted history?

Help! / I wanna Montage Photo Thingy for Photoshop!
10 November, 2007, 09:20:09 AM
I know they look terrible but I want to have a go at making one of those montage pictures that are made out of loads of other photos. I'm sure someone mentioned either a plugin for photoshop or a freeware program that does it.

There's a tasteless example of what I mean below, anyone know where I can find someting to let me do this?http://uk.wrs.yahoo.com/_ylt=AqzxH648owc7sLadyBm98kFWBQx./SIG=12353jqhn/**http%3A//www.clamormagazine.org/issues/28/images/cover28_big.jpg">

Games / Timeshift.
08 November, 2007, 03:08:39 PM
I'm playing this at the minute and, despite blatently ripping off Half Life many, many times, it's really rather cool.

In the game you have a funky suit that can slow down, stop, or even reverse time. Stopping time, running up to a soldier, snatching his gun then re-starting time for the bewildered soldier is a hoot. Also, if there's two enemies, it's funny to stop time, smash one's brains in, then hide and start time up again. His mate will be totally confused!

The graphics are ace, the physics and explosions lovely and the gameplay cool. Give it a go if you get the chance!http://z.about.com/d/compactiongames/1/7/a/O/timeshift048.jpg">

I thought I'd post my collection of David Millgate commissions. I realise that he's perhaps not one of the more popular artdroids, possibly to do with the era in which he started and the fact he wears his influences a bit too obviously on his sleeve, but I certainly like his work. And, like 'em or loathe 'em, he did co-create Sinister Dexter which is one of 2000ad's longest running strips!

Over the last year or so we've exchanged many emails and he sounds like a great fella. Here we go then, I'll alphabetically post the ABC Warriors first then some lovely Dredds, hope you enjoy them!

Games / Half-Life Episode 2 and Portal in a few hours!
09 October, 2007, 08:58:06 PM
And I can't wait!!!

I'm seriously tempted to ring in sick at work tomorrow to play these. Half-Life is my all time favourite series of games and Ep2 looks beautiful! The new Hunters look evil!

Portal looks amazing too, I can't wait to get my hands on this mind bending game!

I genuinely am going to have trouble sleeping tonight, how sad is that!?!

Help! / Why is my internet so crap?
07 October, 2007, 10:01:07 AM
Sorry to post this folks but I'm at the end of my tether!

We've got Virgin Media internet (ADSL through the phone line cos we don't live in a cable area) which is up to 8mb but is generally about 3mb to 1.5mb if we're lucky.

However, lately, it seems to be off as often than it's on which I'm sure you understand is fucking infuriating. All of us at Wellsy towers really need a stable and reliable internet service for work and uni purposes and this is driving us all insane! Honestly, I can't stress how much the atmosphere in our happy home changes when the net dies!

So what can it be? I assume we're set up right as it does actually work half of the time. Have we got dodgy phonelines? Is the router dodgy? Is Virgin Media shit? I'm sick of ringing both Virgin Media and BT and getting fobbed off. Is there anything I can do? Please help!

General / TFU in TF2!
06 October, 2007, 10:32:24 AM
The last few weeks I've been merrily playing Team Fortress 2 by the lovely Valve company. Marvelling at it's wonderful design and graphics - are other boarders playing it by the way?

Anyway, yonks ago, I tried to get in touch with Jason Brashill via his website to see if I could get a Dredd commission from him.

Last week I got a lovely email from Jason's missus apologising for not getting in touch sooner but they've moved to Seattle as Jason has got a job working as a concept artist for...

Valve! He's been involved in making the Engineer, Soldier and Heavy trailers for TF2 and is also doing some mapping. Wehey! It's great when you hear that your fave artists are doing well!

The standard of some of the entries in the August art competition was amazingly high and has got me thinking. For the October, November or December comp why don't we have a free for all where boarders send in 2000ad images. We could vote on the twelve best which could then be made into a nice downloadble calendar in pdf format or somesuch.

I'm aware that Rebellion are making a 2008 calendar (woohoo!) which I'll still be buying but I think this would make for a nice competition.

Thoughts?

General / Buttonman 4 - Shark Jumping?
03 September, 2007, 10:43:12 AM
I hate to question such a mammoth series by two of the most amazing creator droids in the whole history of everything but I'm really not sure about Buttonman 4.

For me, one of the main reasons I loved the first three series was because they were so credible in terms of premise, characterisation and art. It was very much Harry's story which ended perfectly with Buttonman 3.

Which brings us to the current storyline. A leather clad, indestructible ninja babe? Three parts in and no real sign of Harry? I'm seriously worried.

Frazer's art, as ever, is lovely and I suppose goes well with the story but, as yet, that story isn't recognisable as Buttonman.

I realise it's still early days, I have complete faith in John Wagner and am sure he'll pull something spectacular out of the bag but I hope he does it quickly before this turns into Harry vs. Ninja Assassin and the strip's credability is ruined forever, yikes!

General / Carlos Ezquerra Collection Question.
01 September, 2007, 01:20:47 PM
Tharg's newsround shows the new books for August including the Ezquerra collection. Looking at the cover I can see it credits Ezquerra, Flint, Wagner, Ennis and Rennie.

Flint? Surely they haven't put Helter Skelter in this collection? I really hope not, I'd have rather seen Inferno & Purgatory finally see print than this getting trotted out again. If 72 of my 240 pages are Helter Skelter I'll be miffed!

Anyone know what's in it?

Games / Bioshock!
28 August, 2007, 04:54:11 PM
I'm playing Bioshock at the moment and it's bloody fantastic!

The game is set in an art deco underwater Metropolis called Rapture, where things has gone very, very wrong. Tormented, insane splicers patrol the corridors in grotesque animal masks and creepy little girls, with their huge Big Daddy bodyguards for protection, harvest dead bodies for gene matter.

It's lovely, creepy, sick, thrilling and twisted all at the same time! It's horribly claustrophobic, just like Devlin Waugh's Swimming in blood tale, and the story is cracking along nicely too. The sound and visuals are absolutely jaw dropping, adding to the twisted atmosphere.

Highly recommended!http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b2/Bioshock_enemies.jpg">

Help! / Tech Help - I've knacked me fillums!
17 August, 2007, 03:10:20 PM
Aw man! The other day I installed pplive to try to get streaming premiership matches my dad. Since doing this it's scuppered videos on my PC. When playing most videos now they just look black with slight bluey tinges going on.

I've uninstalled pplive, rolled back my machine and reinstalled windows media player but the problem is still there. Help! Has anyone any ideas?

Off Topic / The Forbidden Corner
17 August, 2007, 01:08:20 PM
Sorry for the off topic post but I wanted to share this with boarders Oop North with families.

Yesterday the Wells clan went to The Forbidden Corner in Leyburn, Yorkshire and it was really cool! Basically it's like one huge labyrinth that has spooky gothic bits, underground sections, tree sculptures and proper scary bits. It's like being at Hogwarts, Middle Earth and Fraggle Rock all at the same time!

What I liked about it was you're told very little when you enter; it's completely up to you to find all of the bits and bobs in the place and make the as visit worthwhile as you want. In this day and age it's just refreshing not to be spoon fed! Similarly, it flies in the face of current namby pamby health and safety obsessed attractions; I lost count of the number of times I banged my head, got wet or was completely in the dark!

The designers of the place must be a really twisted bunch too! At one point we were underground in a dark cavern with a nasty sculpted devil watching over us (cue many crying children!), later we were underground again and treated to a truly chilling attack on giant rats by an even bigger cat and later still I got pissed on by a statue.

It's a great day which I feel will work on differernt levels for different age groups - magical for kids, twisted and cool for teens and 'dults.) If boarders can get there and think their kids can handle it, then I highly reccommend it!

I got this link to the revamped (or in the process of being revamped) Brian Bolland site from the wonderful Chris Weston Blog.

The gallery section is amazing and includes loads of phenominal 2000ad images. However, at time of writing, it is the only one that hasn't been updated yet - aaaggghhhhh!!!

General / Rico's jaw?
01 August, 2007, 05:40:43 PM
After Rico got his jaw blown off by Evil GRennie I thought there was going to be a big build up and a huge reveal of a rock hard, steely jawed Rico. Especially after, if memory serves me correctly, Dredd stated that "at least people can tell us apart now" or something...

So what's the score with the jaw? I think Peter Doherty and Colin MacNeil have been drawing a little scar on Rico's chin, but is that it? I expected more! In my head Rico was going to look like trap jaw from He Man.

I'm very disappointed, not just at the whole chin debacle, but at how much of a nerd I am for being dissapointed about it! I'm officially a geek!
