Dredd is just amazing, isn't it?

However, I have a slight problem with
the actions of four of the former council of five. Cuffing Beeney seems very extreme and un-Judicial, and I'd expect former council members to be a lot less reckless.
A rare misstep for me this, in easily one of the best Dredd strip's in years.

News / Re: RIP Ron Smith
10 January, 2019, 10:04:05 PM
Ron worked on some of my very, very favourite Dredd classics. Some of my earliest, and fondest memories of Dredd, were the Daily Star Dredds (like many, I point people in the direction of these if they want to know more about the character and his world), the Palais De Boing(R), the Invisible Man, Dave the Orangutan, Otto Sump, Citizen Snork, the Black Plague, Marlon Shakespeare, Captain Skank and so many more. His depictions of Mega-City One citizens were easily the best, as they were rightfully absolutely crazy, and his Dredd profile is the one I copied most as a kid.

Thanks Ron, thanks for some wonderful and truly treasured memories. A sad day indeed.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for these, once again it's been fascinating to watch the covers jostle for first place, and it's great to see the diverse range of people's votes.

Let's start with the 2000 AD Cover of the Year, which is really bittersweet for reasons I'm sure you'll understand. So, the the top 3, in reverse order...

In third place is Carlos Ezquerra's final cover, the beautiful, and very fitting Strontium Dog cover of Prog 2081...

In second place, the brilliant Chris Weston gives us Dredd and a space monkey on Prog 2089. What's not to love?

And heart-wrenchingly, the clear winner is the gloriously gritty masterpiece by King Carlos Ezquerra that is the cover of Prog 2078. Utterly stunning. I'd give anything to be able to tell Carlos he'd won.

Congratulations to Carlos and Chris! Strangely, there were no real bubbling under covers, these three pretty much dominated the proceedings from the off...

The Megazine Cover of the Year was a much more hotly contested affair. The winners, in reverse order are...

In third place, Phil Winslade's amazing Lawless wraparound for Meg 402...

In second place, it's that man again, Chris Weston with his brilliant cover of Meg 400...

And the winner is.... Adam Brown with his action-packed, fully painted War on the Law cover of Meg 399!

Congratulations to Adam, Chris and Phil. I'll whizz them an email in the morning to let them know!

Again, thanks for voting everybody!

+++ Just over 24 hours to vote Earthlets! +++

Many, many wonderful covers this year. My top 3 are:

First Place with 3 Points: King Carlos, Prog 2078.

Such a wonderful image of Johnny, it's Rage all over again, it's Prog 339 (http://2000ad.org/functions/cover.php?choice=339&Comic=2000ad) and it's Prog 469 (http://2000ad.org/functions/cover.php?choice=469&Comic=2000ad) Carlos drawing Alpha looking furious is, sorry, was always a joy, and this is just wonderful. I LOVE how it seems to be an amalgamation of his older and newer styles.

My second place is classic Dredd 2110 by Chris Weston:

I love the design work that has gone into this (particularly the way the gremlins interact with the logo), I love the colours, I love the fact that it pays homage to Prog 23 (http://2000ad.org/functions/cover.php?choice=23&Comic=2000ad,) I love the gratuitous nudity on the cover and the fact that Dredd is getting kicked in the nads. Marvellous!

In third place, Jake Lynch's Prog 2104...

I love the design work here and Jake is certainly one of my favourites of the newer droids.

There were sooooo many that were bubbling under; I started to list them but it just got silly!

Results tomorrow at midnight!!!
