Ben Willsher's cover has finally made it to my blog. It's not often I disagree with the wisdom of the mighty Tharg but I fooking love Ben's original design:

Check out Ben's brilliant commentary on the blog...

Chris Weston makes my heart happy. What a brilliant man he is. Please go and read his love letter to the second golden age of 2000AD on my covers blog.

Another masterpiece by Cliff. It's a shame Pete's mug adorns it. ;)

How dare you sir? I think it took Cliff so long and it takes a while to capture classic beauty like mine.

You're right A.Cow. There's more detailed and heavier line work on one of Joe's head than the other!

Well spotted fellas. When Cliff inked the image he forgot to do Joe. He knows Joe is one of my fave characters (I'd specifically asked for him) so he redrew him and fixed him onto the image.

Finally watched The Losers last night on Lovefilm online. Nice, enjoyable fun.

Okay, the two things he left off were Mean's dial and Rogue's biochip. You'd have gotten that if I'd have put the right image at the end of my post!

EDIT - Sorry folks, I thought I'd re-sized these. Mods?

When the art arrived, Cliff had included all his prelims and sketches. Here they are:

Up the Arse Corner with pencil Pete and Photo Pete:

Pencilled Fear:

Spooky speech:

Sam Slade:

Kano, Johnny and Cass:

Ramone and Finny, Slaine, Mean & Dredd:

Johnny, Slade and Nikolai:

Rogue, Tharg and Cal:

And finally, Mr Cliff!

Wonderful!

Or all black:

As I said I went for version 1.

Once I'd decided on the hatching, Cliff inked it up and thought he was all finished but had missed TWO slight details. Can you find 'em?

So he put 'em in and finished the image, s'beautiful...

With the image on the way to being inked, Cliff asked how I wanted the background, sending several mock ups. The first, and the one I ultimately decided on, was this medium crosshatching version:

Other options included lighter crosshatching:

Darker crosshatching:

Bah something's wrong. I'll finish this later...

Ha, got you! Sorry for the evil trick, it was Cliff's idea not mine. He thought it'd be fun to have Judge Fear showing everyone's worst nightmare behind his evil grill!

I'm am chuffed to share with you the third of my four Dark Judges commissions by the wonderful Cliff Robinson. A bit different this 'un as it features my beautiful face - I normally don't like to do this but I'm really pleased I did for this 'un as Cliff has done an excellent job.

So, let's see this badboy.  If you want to pour over a whopper, high res version, click here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/Wellsy/05GazeintotheFaceofFearFinished.jpg.

A smaller version is shown below:

Nice eh? Here's the story of the commission. Cliff came up with the original idea, I wasn't too sure about it at first but he persuaded me. The first image he sent featured an image of me that Cliff had cobbled together from Facebook images!

Neither of us were happy with the image and Cliff asked if I'd send some pictures of me gurning to camera for reference. With those, he came up with this rather sexy little image:

With that approved, Cliff started adding the supporting cast, a bunch of characters that were as shocked as Judge Wells there...

Here's the blueline version with me inked and those characters shuffled about a bit. Note how the wording in the speech balloon has changed, what can I say? I'm a traditionalist!

Continued next post...
