My thoughts:

Cover: I love a stock Dredd cover and this one is fookin' cool, well done Boo!

Dredd: Have to agree about the torture scene, especially having just re-read 'Knock at the Door' recently. Still, I'm enjoying the story and feel really sorry for Nate who, over both stories, has been a really tragic character.

Dante: Great stuff. I love how Nikolai's character evolves with each phase of the strip. Burn's art is great too, especially that arse!

Sinister Dexter: Despite the nay sayers, I love this too and am also intrigued as to where Abnett is taking us. The last page with the sudden, badly photoshopped backgrounds jarred a bit this week though. I wonder if Anthony's deadline was looming?

Future Shock: Pretty good as far as future shocks go. Well done Arthur though, bet you were thrilled when you heard Vince Locke was on art duties, wow!

Buttonman: Can't beleive I'm still saying 'Meh' to a buttonman series. Despite some good moments it really isn't grabbing me like previous series. One thought, in response to some posts above, perhaps Harry and Adele might not have that confronation. They might, though I really hope not, team up agianst the voices. The way this strip has gone I wouldn't be at all suprised.

So, Dredd, Dante, SinDex and Buttonman all in one prog, if only it had Jonny Alpha the line up would be perfect! Good stuff!

Holy cow!!! I urge all boarders with a decent PC to download this demo right now! It really is the most amazing game I've played!

In it, you wear a cool suit which you can power-up in different ways - increased armour, speed, invisibility and strength. I have to say, increased strength is by far the most fun, you can leap several feet into the air, pick up metal canisters (or cute little chickens!) and hurl them with tremendous force at the enemies or even better, actually pick up an enemy up by the scruff of his neck and launch him at his comrades. The feeling of power is amazing!!!

The graphics are beautiful and the physics outstanding - foliage and palm trees will collapse when you shoot them (like that bit in Predator) and leaves will sway and bend as you walk through them.

Honestly, when you play this game you actually  become Nate Slaughterhouse! Download it now!!!

Those those parents passing away stories are interesting.

On the day I had to give my brother the horrible phonecall to tell him to get back oop North from his home in Cheltenham 'cos our lovely Mam was about to pop off he was at actually at Leeds. Apparently he'd walked into work that morning and inexplicably told his boss he had to get home to see his mam. To this day he just says he had an overwhelming feeling that he needed to get home to see her.

Not very Halloweeny I grant you but interesting that other boarders share similar experiences.

Strangely on topic, when I was getting my Chris Weston commission framed in Sunderland there were some historical bods in the shop. They were telling the framer that an old oil tycoon used to own the premesis in the nineteenth century.

The framer replied that he 'sees him all the time', especially when he's working late at night downstairs in the shop. He sees him in his peripheral vision watching him work, then when he's finished working and going back upstairs to the shop the ghostie will often make a noise like a ruler twanging on the side of a desk, just to let him know he's there.

I tend to not beleive in stuff like this but it's hard when a rational bloke who you've known for years comes out with something like this!

Gah! Where to start? Damn you Mogzilla with your tricky threads!

For pure, spine tingling excitement and wonderful story telling it's this image of Hartigan rising after blacking out (complete with black pages) while trying to rescue young Nancy. The image is so powerful and completely sums up the character. Just awesome (in the true sense of the word, not wierd skater speak!)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/Wellsy/hartigan.gif">

Half Life will have dated rather horribly by now but it's still a classic game that everyone should experience.

Moments from it still made lots of people's 'coolest ever gaming moments' on this board (mine included!) just the other week.

Hey Goaty, the cheapest I've found COD4 (for PC) is £24.99 from www.choicesuk.com.

Anyway, as it's glorious Half Term, I played all the way through Portal and HL Episode 2 yesterday (the third time I've completed Ep2 and about the fifth for Portal!)

Maaan, both of these games are just wonderful, I love 'em!

HL2 - The game as a whole is great (though the Antlion nest is a bit long) but the final Strider battle is just unbelievably good! Ep2 as a whole reminds me of Empire Strikes Back in it's tone and this section of the game is certainly like the battle of Hoth! Huge stompy machines trying to blow up the base. Amazing stuff.

By the way, did people spot the G-Man on the bridge when you get the car and, more spookily, in the static on the screens just before Alyx tells her pa to "Expect unforseen consequences?" Brilliant!

As for the ending, just wow! What a suckerpunch! There's a bit of a debate about this but I beleive that the Combine Advisors can 'read' people's thoughts when sucking out their brains! With the awful death of Eli, I think that the Combine now know all about the Borealis and the resistance. I reckon Ep3 is going to be a desperate race to the Arctic for a mega standoff against the Combine. I hope we get to use the portal gun! Oh, I can't wait!

Portal - Again, what a brilliant game with an excellent ending. My only quibble is that once you 'kill' GLaDOS and escape the testing facillity, you end up in a wooded area in glorious sunshine. I really hoped, and thought, that the testing facillity was the Borealis. It certainly looks like a ship when you go behind the scenes. I'd have been happier if Chell (the lady from Portal) ended up on the deck of a frozen ship opening up the possibility of meeting Freeman in Episode 3.

The song at the end of Portal is great too - sweet, sinister and very catchy. It's going on my iPod!

Post your Half Life and Portal theories here!

Ooops, it's not Trouty! Sorry to be so offensive! ;)

As for my thoughts on the Orange Box...

Half Life Episode 2 was amazing as ever. I really loved it but wonder if Valve should be doing more to justify the long wait between titles. However, the ending is particularly good!

Portal is fantastic! though a tad short. I hope this is a precursor to a bigger game. Again, the ending here is particularly good!

Team Fortress is great fun and graphically beautiful.

Despite minor quibbles, the Orange Box is BRILLIANT and a must buy for anyone with a PC or 360!

Amazingly difficult thread! I'm with Goaty for the introduction of the soldiers in:

Half Life 1 - After ages fighting your way back to the surface to get help from the military you find that they're really there to lethally cover up the whole Black Mesa incident. Fantastic!

Half Life 2 - The chilling, palpable sense of oppression in the opening levels of the game which slowly lead to panic as you're chased by the combine is faultless story telling. Also, of course, using saw blades and gas cannisters with the gravity gun in Ravenholm never gets old and the whole bridge scene is amazing!

Max Payne 2 - Mona's Fun House, both visits. I love how it looks cheezy but scary at the same time and also how the whole game mirrors Max's life.

Condemned - The whole deserted shopping mall level is amazing. The first time a 'shop dummy' came to life made me scream and jump out of my chair! Also, having to put your gun away to use your UV light to follow the serial killer killer's deranged writing in his creepy, pitch black house while knowing that the fucker is hiding there somewhere is absolutely nerve shredding! Finally, anyone who's played this game will remember taking a close up photo of the face of the body in abandonned school's locker... New undies please!

Bioshock - Too many moments to mention.

GTA San Andreus - The whole getting the casino card from the S&M lady is hillarious!

Portal The wonderful script throughout and the fantastic ending. The song is wonderful too!
