Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

I enjoyed the Last Crusade novel when it came out, and didn't see the movie until it came out on video. Very disappointed with it at the time - it had a cheap look about it, as though Spielberg couldn't be bothered and had instead saved half the budget for his next movie. Same, laid back sense of direction that blunted Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I didn't enjoy watching Marcus Brody and Sallah reduced to a pantomime double-act.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

I read 'Wolfen' a few weeks ago. It's probably the movie version that most people know, but the book - while quite different - is equally enthralling. With the 1970's level of SFX the novel would have been unfilmable. It's a brutal but beautiful clash of civilisations, between human and Wolfen.

Have to say there's a bit of me looking forward to 'Beyond' the first release. There's something about the Cursed Earth certainly that has always been so exciting to me. Probably the age I read Cursed Earth and the affect it had on me and all that.

Yes, I'm anticipating the completion of the sequel more. Although I have all the material, I've not read most of it, so this book will kill two birds with one stone.

A little copyright/trademark symbol will need to be added to the 'Dredd'.
And the "2000AD"?

Don't think so, as the word '2000AD' is primarily a date. 'Mega-City One' also belongs to other properties besides Dredd.

The sequel - BEYOND THE CITY OF DREDD  - will cost even less due to its smaller page count. Be at least 150 pages, but beyond that the sequel's still in production, half of it only sketched out. Then I'll have another cover design to fret over...  :o

Off Topic / Re: Moving..

I rent and it's great (after the trouble I had selling my house), but I rue the day when my landlord will phone and tell me he wants the house back and the dreaded house move begins again. I was barely in my last property 11 months when - the day after I was admitted into hospital for nine weeks - my landlady requested I return the house to her because she had split up from her boyfriend and was homeless. My current landlords are local Estate Agents and they've been great - just renewed my contract for another 12 months. Nice house too, which is wonderful.

Well, once you've spent time roleplaying Judges, you start to get sucked in by it all... or rather, while the creative hemisphere of my brain remains hugely-entertained by Judge Dredd (it would be easy to write this stuff for the rest of my life ... must-not-give-in!), my 'keeping it real' hemisphere reclines from a safe vantage, downs a Strongbow and chuckles at the absurdity of it all.

I'm waiting on a small amount of research from contributors. Still plenty of time!  ;) My end of the production will be finished this coming week.

A talking dog sharing cannabis-laced 'Scooby Snacks' with his hippy dealer is more worrying....

The cover image is a compressed JPEG and a lot of intricate detail is absent, making the city look more pallid than intended, so hopefully the higher-rez printed version will compensate. It was quite difficult to match the skyline to the orange skies as no city of this size exists in 2011 and atmospheric effects upon such a large and dense body of architecture can only be guessed at. Some buildings are constructed from matte rockcrete, others plasteen and others have some metallic coverings (burnished so as not to blind hover-pilots). I was going to have the taller buildings break through the clouds, but the cover text would have obfuscated the effect.

The skyline appears to be leaning to the right, but my rulers tell me otherwise. The Statue of Liberty might be causing an optical illusion.

Here's the thread discussing the cover artwork and the design process leading to the final:

I've got a TIE Crawler model about four inches long which was designed for WOTC's Star Wars Miniatures line. It requires a smaller suspension of disbelief to imagine it as a new form of TIE Bomber than a queer-looking tank.

Thanks for new of this bok; I've just placed an order for it. I've also been spurred on to buy the 90-minute Grant Morrison DVD.

Yes, I've got it somewhere. Can't remember it's name. The Empire contracts an assassin whose ghastly pet entrances Like into thinking he's been witness to the murder of all his rebel friends. Using the Force, Luke snaps out of the trance and - I think - impales the skull-monkey using his lightsabre. There's also a strip drawn by Alan Davis which sticks in my mind. I can clearly remember all the stories but none of their names. I'm sure I've seen it coloured (badly) as an American reprint.
