Absolutely; the 1982 Judge Dredd Annual was my favourite 2000AD product of all time (until The Restricted Files V1 came out).

I have never ceased to be obsessed with McMahon's colour art for that title. The stories are not so wonderful, but he makes them magic. He really brought the streets of MC1 to life, and his patchwork-style detailing and colouring of the cityblocks makes them almost desirable to live in. For me it's artistic lightning in a bottle: I don't think McMahon ever drew as well before or since.

Have you by chance been playing (or have read) the new Strontium Dog RPG, Robin?

Shades of Herge  ;) No bad thing at all.

It's been an emotional day. Been a LONNNGG time since I had to absorb this level of thrill-power.

Nice font!

I drew a colour image of Judge Logan in my old The Norse Lode JDRPG supplement, in the context of a 'snippet' from a 'lost' Dredd comic strip. At the time, the likeness seemed to me to be quite good.

If you're going to have a tattoo, it may as well be of Dredd's badge: It never dates and never ceases to kick black inky ass; beat the gang tats at their own game with lawful goodness  :D

I settle modestly for my gleaming golden Dredd badge worn proudly on my leather jacket (thanks be to Termight Replicas).

Bloody hell, look at you all go on! And comic book readers slate RPGers for being anal?!  :D

Seriously, it's nice to see others get hot and bothered over this delightful nonsense too.

You mean TARANTULA? Yes, it is indeed in there, the penultimate story (followed by The Eat Of The Night)!

I love Tarantula even more than the Chickenhead one: Ezquerra, Cursed Earth, giant spiders (and memories of those daft 1950s B-movies) = comic book Nirvana!

General / Re: Comics Journal Interview with Kev O'Neill

Thanking you, TordelBack.

(trying to remember what O'Neill stories I've got) ...

All his 2000AD material (of course); Metalzoic (US version); all the LOEG; all Marshal Laws; that Death Race mini-series for Roger Corman's comics (or I may have binned it - not sure).

I'm completely blank on the rest, again the problem being I may have the USA comics featuring his stuff, but because they're hidden between the main strip and the letters pages, I'd not know where to find them. I might have some Omega Men comics, and Green Lantern about the time Dave Gibbons was illustrating, but the interview stated O'Neill's contribution was delayed because of Comics Code censorship claptrap.

Although Kev O'Neill's work is very different to Mike McMahons's, I'm always getting confused as to who drew what when it comes to their USA comic contributions.

Yes, Grant, that very story (one of my favourites) features in Vol 01, along with all the other Dredd-centric stories from that annual.

The Kneepad Kid doesn't appear, as he's not technically part of a comic strip....

BEFORE SOMEBODY POINTS OUT THAT THE KNEEPAD KID DOES (IN LATER YEARS) INDEED FEATURE IN A PROPER DREDD COMIC STRIP ... YES, I KNOW!  :D

Announcements / Re: Judge Dredd Movie is Green Lit!

I say No no no no!  ;)

I refer to the summation of writing and art, not the art alone. After Judge Death Lives, is any Judge Death story worth reading as a vital addition to his mythology? I did not think so. Of course, the Irving droid earned his oil ration on that occasion.

Absolutely, their time was over when Bolland stopped drawing them...Quantity over quality.

I refer the learned gentleman to My name is Death and suggest that his mouth is full of wrong. I see your Bolland and raise you an Irving.

There are no text-based reprints, sadly, nor the other annual backup stories (Max Normal, Angel Gang, etc)--be nice to see them in a From The Pages of Judge Dredd series.

As much as I enjoyed the interview, it makes me sad that I've missed out on so much of Kev O'Neill's artwork outside of LOEG; a lot of it is hidden away as back-up stories for major titles you wouldn't possibly even know existed unless you read, say, Green Lantern or Omega Men at the time. Even more sad: Kev's work is usually much better than the material that fronts his!

Is there by chance a complete checklist of his output anywhere?
