Pompeii Live.  Fascinating ambitious cinema experience this - a live broadcast from the British Museum exhibition on Pompeii and Herculaneum that I haven't been able to get to (yet).

Im heading down to the Smoke in a few short weeks for a long weekend, and this is on the to do list - along with the Bowie exhibition. Looking forward to (hopefully) seeing both.

Prog / Re: Prog 1836 - The Damned

Great prog, this/last week.
Reading it seems to take 5 seconds, but its all good. Great to see Mr Hairsine art again, and how its changed since i last read any of his Dredd's. Not a bad little story, but that whole " Dredd, your to blame..." doesnt do it for me, either. A bit of a slight switch-off moment when i see that cropping up.
Sin Dex was brilliant this week. The best strip, i thought. Liked the Terror Tale, and the art, a lot.
Cadet Anderson, while not totally essential stuff, is still playing out nicely.
And Defoe.....
Never come across the strip before, so ill reserve my judgement, til i can get a better handle on it.

But yes, a great prog, all told. More please!

I sent the guy a message. He genuinely seems just a bit of a dope. He thought he had a real gem, as he couldn't find out anything about it online. He inherited about 40 old comics and thought he was on to a winner.

I informed him that a thousand pounds is a bit high, cos it's only worth 4 or 5 quid if he was lucky.

He said when I told him the more realistic price, his wife laughed her head off at him.

Bless him. See he's ammended the price to a tenner, now. Still too high, imo.
If your prepared to hang about you can pick up NM copies of these early specials for not quite a fiver.

The end song in Donnie Darko was going to be U2's MLK. Which would have been brilliant - but they couldnt afford to licence it.
Instead we got that dreadful Mad World cover,  :(

I find Richard Kelly's first preferences not as good as what he had to settle for, initially. I think it's an indicator of how his mind and the scene was changed with the song when he didn't choose to swap Mad World for MLK in his director's cut even when he got the extra money and switched some of the other tracks.

Was it ever an option to have the tune in the DC, or did licensing issues still apply?

It could be argued that MLK would have fitted too perfectly for the closing of DD, but what the heck.
(Ive nowt really against the Mad World cover, just that when i think it could have been MLK...).
