Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?
05 March, 2013, 09:40:10 PM
Im reading a few bits and bobs at the minute, but whats prompted me to post, is a DVD ive recently re-watched: A very British coup.
Loved this mini-series since first catching it, but ive never got round to grabbing a copy of Chris Mullin's novel.

Any thoughts on the novel - worth tracking down?

So what about big boobies - do they have an effect?

The stories were, but not the posters.

Ah, i see. Thought the poster might have been used in a bonus image gallery, or something similar.
Never had chance to check those restricted files out.

Brian is named here (at the very bottom). All the following images dont have the original artist's names listed in the title.

I see that Brian is now credited on that fella's site. Guess somebody's been in touch, then..

Im after the Dredd Poster Prog 5 BTW, if anyone has a decent spare copy..

Here's the Mike Ploog pic

Nice!

Often rewatch the brilliant Terror takes shape documentary from The Thing DVD. Rob Bottin's full of schoolboy enthusiasm when recounting the tale of him getting to work with his hero, Mike Ploog.

Not actually said to me, but still..
In light of the recent events surrounding Cardinal O'Brien, on Radio 2 today the topic for discussion was 'are some vehemently anti-gay people perhaps themselves secretly gay?', a certain macho caller from Brighton - who finds gay people digusting, who likes looking at all women, who has fathered six children, said and then repeated again ' i dont want all things gay rammed down my throat'.

Vanessa Feltz said something later on about those that protest the loudest...

Getting a spider-head-monster sketch from the Thing from Mike Ploog, who did the original storyboards and concept art on the movie

Oh, very nice - well done on that.
Any chance of posting a piccy?

The cover for the IDW Ezquerra collection has been updated.  This one has a solid white background, in keeping with the look of the Bolland & Kennedy volumes.  Ezquerra fans may (or may not) be pleased to note the Dredd image includes Ezquerra's signature dashed outline.

You can get a better look at the cover and browse some of the pages at Amazon UK, courtesy of their "Look inside" feature.  (Click here!)

Apart from the covers gallery, the story line up appears to be:

  • Bank Raid - 5 pages
  • Krong - 5
  • Meka City - 13
  • Fungus - 18
  • Destinys Angels - 50
  • The Executioner - 26
  • The Night of the Rad Beast - 12
  • The Prankster - 7
  • The Starborn Thing - 38
  • Condo - 21
  • Requiem for a Heavyweight - 27
  • The Man Who Knew Too Much - 14

That's 236 pages devoted to stories.

The classic "Um - synthi sausage?" cover is reproduced (in b&w) and the Rico/Dredd image that mirrors the classic "Who's gonna mess with us" Alpha/Dredd is there too, though sadly the Alpha/Dredd is (as far as can be seen) not.  While not a surprise - this being a Dredd volume - it would be spectacular to see the two pictures reproduced side by side in a quality oversized book like this one.

Wow, just seen this..
Now that all looks incredibily tempting. A very nice selection of stories.

This was a piece he did for IDW

He was, of course, one of the many artist's featured for the variant cover's of Dredd #1, and i think ive seen it mentioned that he's doing a cover for the 'Year One' series, as well.
Maybe Carlos produced a few of these, and IDW are using them as and when?
