Music nazis would have you believe that people only say that to shock..  ::)

Especially if no one asked you what you think of the Beatles in the first place

John Lennon was murdered on my birthday. True that.

Prog / Re: Prog 1821: 36 Zarjaz Years

Mr T puts it all so much better than i ever good, and this quote sums it up rather nicely..

It's an extraordinary snapshot of a comic going about its everyday business and still scoring bullseye after distinct bullseye, all wrapped in a hearty anniversary cover.

Ive either got some kind of mental blockage for birthdays now, but it hadnt registered with me that this was the prog's 36th, until long after reading it. (despite it being plastered all over the cover, and reading about it online. Doesnt seem two mintues since the prog's 30th, or 35th, either..)

So Happy birthday 2000ad!
From cover to cover simply a top read - and its been like that for a good number of progs, of late.

As i mentioned earlier the Bolland cover is pretty special i think. Brians art can sometimes leave me cold, but this is without a doubt a right cracker.
Dredd is top stuff indeed. Curries art is pretty darn good, as is the story. Again i find myself wishing Dredd had a longer page count.
Savage is an absolute must read, at the moment. Storywise and art are about as good as it gets. And i could very easily say the same for Ampney. Quite a creepily distrubing episode this week, i thought. MORE PLEASE!!

Red Seas continues in very fine form. (I wish i knew more about the past episodes for this, so i could see it as a whole, and fill in the blanks a bit, though. But thats for me to sort out.)
Mr Yeowell's art in glorious black n white is a joy, and summat i look forward to seeing. Along with Savage, these monochrome strip's are a real treat.

And Stronty delivers the knockout punch.
After a slowish start, these last handful of episodes have really kicked in big time. Perfection, i think. Some prime Ezquerra art, hopefully it wont be long before this story returns.

Is 11 out of 10 possible?

From the amazing Zarjazz exhibition of 2005 comes this beauty by the very kind and talented Rufus Dayglo.

Great stuff, David! A stunning, and vibrant piece. Thisll fit nicely into your Bad Company collection.

Film Discussion / Re: Favourite scenes from DREDD

I like the fact (amongst many other things) that its presented in the super wide aspect ratio.
An odd thing to be pleased about, maybe, but i often think the 1:85:1 ratio makes things look a bit TV movie-ish.
Dredd deserved to be in widescreen.

As always, condition is King. Around the £20 mark seems to be the standard going rate.

And Issue 4 landed yesterday, for me.

A cracking cover by Garry Brown ( the best of the three, i think.)
But this is the issue thats left me the most conflicted, to date. Im still enjoying it, and ill continue to buy it for the foreseeable future ( its only a couple of quid, afterall - and ive found a reliable seller to get it from), but the main story is kinda average. Enjoying the back up stories more, TBH.

I think IDW have put a bit of effort into the series (and from what ive seen, some of IDW's licensed material looks 100% terrible) - using regular 2000ad droids, some decent enough art on show at times, the use of Mr Wolk etc, but the stories need to move up a gear.

How is this series going down in the States, does anybody know?

Prog / Re: Prog 1821

Snagged a copy of 1821 at dinner today (is it me, or is the prog available in more places of late? It wasnt that long ago it was the devil's own job to find a copy).

Wasnt that fussed about the Bolland cover when i saw it online, but up close i think its wonderful. Top stuff.
And again ive really enjoyed Dredd - the story, and the art. Hershey has deffo turned into Jessie J, though..

Grand stuff so far, reading the rest after tea.

My word! That does indeed look to be in pristine condition.
Prime Cam, that. And a smashing cover, to boot. Congrats on snagging this, David. Another classy piece for your collection!

General / Re: The death of Judge Dredd by John Wagner

Id hate to see Rico, or anyone, used as a replacement Dredd. An awful idea.
I agree that it will all need to be addressed, at some point though. Ive heard all the arguements, but i really dont get the resistance to using sci-fi tricks to prolonging Dredd's life. The fact that the strip ages in real terms, is one of the few consessions to reality. A lot of the strip, along with the world that Dredd inhabites is wildy fantastical.
