Messages - Spikes

After being invited by the Inky Fingers duo of SB, and Skullmo, I may well attend this.

Gonna be a bit of a dear do, but to meet Mick, and Ben - and hopefully get a few things signed (The Cursed Earth book from the Mega Collection should be out in time for this, yes?), and then a few beers afterwards sounds most grand.

Will look into booking the choo-choo tomorrow...

So, I had 'incoming', now it can be classed as 'landed'.

Borisenko regrets going to that Manfred Mann's Earth Band concert, in his youth..

And this guy picked 'Haldane' as his cover-name, because 'Sov sleeper agent' wouldn't fit on the badge - and would also give the game away, as well..

A quality Gallagher DoC page there, SB! I had forgotten that you had this page, it stems from when we was both umming and ahhing on what pages to pick from Leigh's blog, iirc?

And that Frazer is all kind of lovely. A disturbing tale, but so beautifully drawn. Great snag!

Yeah, Mr Marshall's art doesn't command big bucks, though a good few fetched a decent-ish price over on eBay. I was happy to snag one of those, and glad to deal with Paul directly.

The dream team of Joey Essex (I kid you not..), and Nigel Farage hit my home town today on the election trail....

It's the end times, people.  :(

He was indeed a very familar face, and a great actor. Superb in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

RIP, Mr Lewis

I see we now have our first consecutively numbered books, and the first glimpse of spines matching up, with Mechanismo (book 24), and Mandroid (book 25).

Well, he walked away from it - so all's well in that respect, but what an almighty
wanker
he was for drink-driving in the first place.

Aye, keep well Mr T. And please do return once you feel you're able. The forum needs you!

Books & Comics / Re: Recolouring comics - yes, no
03 April, 2015, 10:25:21 PM
Wow, those re-coloured SW pages are summat else, aren't they.....  :o
They strike me as being the comic-book equivalent of the Special Edition film releases.
Once the shock, and novelty, of the new and shiny has worn off, it's quite overbearing.  .....and well, shit, tbh.
Almost treats the original art as an irrelevance.

This'll be the third time - at least - that they've been coloured now.
Dark Horse did a much better job in the 90's. More in keeping with the original Marvel colouring.

So these aside, im not against stuff being re-coloured. The IDW Apocalypse War was a nice enough job. Though it wasnt something I was actively craving.
But if your gonna re-colour, then it should try to mirror the original as near as possible, or at least, keep any modern 'whistles and bell's' to a minimum. My experience in this though is quite limited, so others might be aware of other examples where its worked well..

Prog / Re: Prog 1923: Get Me Savage!
03 April, 2015, 09:42:01 PM
A nice and strong cover by Mr Percival - though I do feel, as others have said, that's its maybe a little under defined.
Dredd is another good one-off. Always good to see both Mr Critchlow's art, and MC1 craziness abound. The latter seems to have been AWOL for a while..
3rillers, for me, are a hit and miss affair, but really liked this one. And having Culbard on art duties has no doubt help in that respect.
Savage ends - for now, and its been an enjoyable romp to date. Glorious art throughout courtesy of Mr Goddard.
Survival Geeks ends OK, though the art can be hard to follow some time, and this week's helping suffered in that respect, though Googe is a proper talent. The Twisted Tales kinda passed me by, but I need to re-read this, I think.

So all told, a pretty decent prog.

Off Topic / Re: The Old London Comic Shops

Id have loved to have been able to regularly browse these shops, but living in the provinces that was never gonna happen.
I may have only visited London twice in the 80's, iirc.
Do love to hear these tales, though.
I often day dream about the mountains of original 2000ad art that was up for grabs.

Here's something about Comic Showcase -- http://www.clandestinecritic.co.uk/2008/07/comic-book-shops-comic-showcase-rip.html

Rub-down fun!

Letraset was the coolest thing ever, back in the day.
Still cool now, tbh.

From Planet Replica's facebook page -- "A quick McMahon statue update to say that they are due for a completed paint QC check this coming Friday (10th). More details as soon as we can!"

So, maybe these will be landing in the next couple of weeks?

Off Topic / Re: Voices of the dead? Examples of EVP

Going back to the very early 80's, I used to purchase The Unexplained magazine, and a free flexidisc of EVP recordings was given away with issue 1. Scared me shitless!
