Film Discussion / Re: Dredd (2012)

The propstore outfit and the photos look excellent Steve, were the muzzle flash and sparks added in photoshop? Looks really effective.

I'm looking forward to "Underbelly" in the Meg, i'm sure Messrs Wyatt & Flint will do a superb job. This 'ultimate' style Dredd is how I had hoped IDW would have gone with their monthly Judge Dredd comic, instead of trying to set their stories into 2000AD Dredd's world. So far the IDW stories have felt like I was reading an 'Elseworld' tale, not quite sitting in the JD canon.

A good little article from SFX though, promoting the Meg and giving a little more publicity to the Dredd sequel campaign too.

Welcome to the board / Re: Borag Thungg from Sheridan

I buy my Prog & Meg from the newsagents or local comic shop. Our postie has a habit of folding/screwing up most of the things he puts through our letterbox, ignoring any 'Please Do Not Bend' pleas. So I daren't sub.

Welcome aboard.

It's quite different from his original Sláine stuff, but I like it - some mad, near-psychedelic colours in the mix there but it works, down to and including Sláine's clearly visible ball-bag.

Don't forget Slough Feg's horsey
cock
on P3.  :o

On the subject of Mick's techniques on Slaine, the old Class of '79 interview is worth a read...

Great interview, cheers Ming. Like Rufus I too was disapointed if Micks work wasn't in the prog, especially if it had a McMahon cover.

Beautiful pencils, I'm still amazed with how lightly he draws his pages.

As for the 'scratchy finish' to the art, Mick said recently on his blog "I've been asked more than a few times to draw in one of my old styles, but have always reckond that it couldn't be done... ...I was right!" Maybe he tried and just slipped into what he was more familiar with at present.

Still wonderful work.

Many years ago there was a documentary on the TV about the Green Man, it was around the time that Slaine: The Horned God Book 3 was in the prog. There was a short interview with Pat Mills and they also showed Simon Bisley working on one of the splash pages. The one of the old high king being ritually sacrificed dressed as the Green Man. I remember shouting at the telly "He's drawing in marker pen... a f***ing marker pen!! Bisley had quickly sketched out the page using a N50 Pentel Permanent marker and then painted stright on top. Now there's a confident artist. Looking at how loose his pencils are on this latest venture into the Land of the Young, nothing much has changed.

All the artists on this series have turned in excellent work, a fitting tribute to Slaine's 30 years.

You had me hooked with your drawing of the 'hopping vampires' PJ. Excellent cover too. Added to my pull list in FP.

Games / Re: Mad Max anyone?
14 August, 2013, 12:03:53 PM
There is a Mad Max motion comic on the way, to add some backstory to the vidio game. It introduces 'Chumbucket' the mechanic, this is the guy in the game you go to for your vehicular upgrades. The strip is by writer Tom Taylor (Tharg's 3rillers) and artist Jason Shawn Alexander (Abe Sapien).

There is a preview over on Comic Book Resources. http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2013/07/sdcc-13-dcs-mad-max-motion-comic-ties-into-video-game/

Well it's coming up for the film's first anniversary on September 7th, maybe we should all go out and buy another copy (or two) then! :)

September 7th sounds good to me.

The Blu-Ray is still in the top 20 in the Sainsburys near me and is selling for £7, the same as Tesco. The DVD (for anyone who has not got it yet) is going for a fiver, so it's not going to break the bank either.

As there is still no sign of a 'shiny tin special edition' Dredd in the UK... Someone suggested a while ago (I can't remember who atm) that we have a 'buy a copy of Dredd day.' Is anyone still up for this? I don't have a Blu-Ray player, but i'd gladly purchase the 3D Blu-Ray Dredd to help push up the sales on said day.

If you watch the Gardian documentary on 2000AD, (News - Judge Dredd takes Edinburgh) it looks as though there are several of these prints in the background above Matt Smiths desk. Two of McMahon's and a Bolland.
