General / Funeral in Mega-City One - Tell me more
29 November, 2013, 11:08:41 AM
I've just been re-reading the Chopper stories and I see from the Wikipedia page that there was a story called "Funeral in Mega-City One" which appeared in the fourth Poster Prog. I've never seen this, and don't have a copy in my collection. Is it really a Chopper story? I'd love to know more about this.

Has there ever been definitive list of 2000AD artists who were previously published on the letters page? I was re-reading an old Chopper story and found this in Prog 547.

I just saw this amazing Gibson Dredd on Guru Mog's Tumblr. I used to love Gibson in the eightes but his appeal ran out for me. This pic seems so much more raw than his super-cartoony, painted work of late.

Can anyone tell me what's going on with his badge there?

BTW Well worth following that blog if you get the chance (are you on these forums Mog?)

Saw this today: http://2000adonline.tumblr.com/post/28817728043/big-news-you-can-now-buy-2000ad-through-the-app

Well, I'd love to get my 2000ad fix digitally - but I'm not a fan of the Newsstand 'way'. AFAIK there's no way of keeping a local copy - unless you want to use iExplorer to copy the app off your iOS device (Newsstand publications are basically just apps).

There's certainly no way of viewing the magazine/comic anywhere other than an iPad, which I'm not sure I'd be happy about.

What do you lot think?

General / Bond's got a Lawgiver now!

New Skyfall trailer is out:
http://www.007.com/new-skyfall-trailer-is-live/

Watch for the part where the new Quartermaster hands bond his new Walther PPK ("Coded to your palm-print, so that only you can fire it."). I wonder if it explodes for anyone else?

I just re-read Dead Man and this, of course, led on to Necropolis. I immediately remembered that I absolutely hated that first time round - Dredd and McGruder was it? Kraken replacing Dredd in MC1. Dark Judges (who I normally dislike anyway). What's the general opinion of Necropolis?

Also, I normally really dislike Carlos's renditions of Dredd stories, and often get turned off stories on that basis alone - however his depiction of Mortis in #688 and #689 is utterly amazing!

Off Topic / Replica Kaneda's Bike

A while ago I posted to a video of a replica tron bike, but I can't find it now - so instead of following up on that thread here's a new thread. This is a beauty:

General / Ugly Clinics opening soon in Japan?
10 October, 2011, 09:40:21 AM
This story suggests that image conscious Japanese may be on the slippery slope towards an ugly fad.
http://www.cnngo.com/tokyo/life/tokyo-dentist-offers-make-your-teeth-look-worse-035816

Tokyo orthodontist Masaru Iwatsuki said "It's clearly a passing fad -- something that will be gone in six months.". That's what they said about Otto Sump.

[I imagine AeroVidTube is someone on this forum? Will he reveal himself?]

There are plenty of other videos on YouTube (like the TV advertisements and the cringeworthy 25 years of 2000AD) I just chose these as I hadn't seen most of them before. Feel free to add any that might be of interest.

I read yesterday a brief comment by Alan Grant about how he and John Wagner were forced to end their partnership in the late eighties/early nineties (it was whilst looking up the four part comic The Last American, but alas I can't find it in my browser history this morning!). I wonder if anyone can tell me more about this and/or direct me to any interviews or articles on the subject?

I stopped reading Dredd a long time ago (I remember Kraken, Dead Man, not much else after that). I guess I stopped at about prog 670. I think I remember Necropolis starting and that's when I stopped. I did pick it up a few times since, and I think I read the Megazine for a while longer.

Well, anyway, on to my question. I've recently read Judge Dredd: The Spirit Of Christmas (prog 2008 - i.e. Christmas 2007 (that always confuses me!)). In the story Hershey mentions Lopez and the Mutant Camps. To what is she referring.

I have picked up a few books since I stopped reading 2000ad. I enjoyed Mandroid and Origins very much. What major events have I missed? Obviously I see that Hershey is Chief Judge now (I think that happened at the end of Necropolis didn't it?) and Dredd is still pounding the streets. Any thing major happened in the last decade of Mega City One? (Stupid question I know!).

note: only had to request three more images from the CAPTCHA before I guessed it. Getting better!

General / Okay, what's with the dashed outlines?
12 August, 2011, 09:58:35 AM
This may well have been covered before, but alas the forum's search link leads to blank page for me...

So, what's with the dashed outlines, pioneered by Esquerra and mimicked by so many artists since (McMahon and Flint to name but two)? I just don't understand their purpose.

(BTW - world record on the CAPTCHA this post. I had to click 'Request another image' six times before I could read it!)

General / Easy question - which artist drew this?

Who doesn't love the ever changing styles of Mick McMahon? Not me! (double negative, sorry). Anyway, I was trying to hunt down some Dredd, drawn by McMahon and I came across this:
http://www.2000ad.nu/mcmahon/com/2ad/2a3.htm

It's in just the style I'm after (as much as I love The Howler, I want to read something a little earlier). The page linked above says it's from Prog 2000, Jan 2000. And therein lies my problem. IIRC wasn't Prog 2000 actually just renumbered because it fell on the millennium or something? Does anyone know which actual prog it was from? Also, it titles the story Future Crimes, and my search for whether or not it's available in Graphic Novel form are hampered by the fact that there is another Dredd book called Future Crimes.

Finally, can anyone tell me which Dredd stories were drawn by McMahon in this style?

Many thanks! Glenn.
