Books & Comics / Bargin buy's
11 September, 2011, 03:13:09 PM
This thread is for any fantastic bargins you have gobbled up over the years.
Just the other day, I was hit by two in one day.
My local The Works was selling off some old rebelion Dredd TPB for £1.50 each.
I got:
Doomsday for Dredd
Doomsday for Mega-city-1
Wastelands

On top of that, Waterstones was selling Marvel uk's Dragon's Claw's for £6.
Damn fine deal INHO.

The first part of the new series was a bit wtf for me.
One moment some one's working on the LHC and the next the universe is collapsing.
Damn...........
I'll just have to play it out and see how good it turns out.

Lately I have rushed through "Dead men walking" and "Atlas Infernal" both jolly WH40k books and have just finished the latest George Mann "Immorality Engine" a steam punk-ish book which was a rip roarer. Just got Vendetta in Gotham Batman versus a certain Judge  which had great Cam Kennedy artwork. Thought Grant and Wagner  had d gone mad about half way through it but it all got right in the end.

Classy Heavy Metal arrived to day as well, some amazing art in it but haven't yet read the stories as yet.
I haven't actualy read ANY of the Batman and Dredd crossovers.
I have heard many good things about them, but I will wait and see if another files book will be released.

Can't wait. My first annual prog, with Dredd, Stront, and Dante!
Any other news as to what will be in it?

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

I was always under the impresion that the slasher genre was only intended to induce shock (or very least surprise) as apposed to develope a bond between the viewer and the charactors.
Having seen most of the 13th films (I have yet to watch the remake, dont have high hope's for it) I would say that the Nightmare on Elm street films and Pumpkinhead where far superior supernatural thrillers, with predator (Yes, I do count it as a slasher film) toping the list.

Cyborg 009 #1-#3
Prity Damn good IMHO.
I have ordered skull man #1-#5 on ebay and Bleach #35-#36 on amazon.

Love that, old school manga, Shotaro Ishinomori stuff. Especially when he's drawing it. A great deal of manga that's been produced recently feels too slick and anonymous, which is exactly my same beef with many of the American artists working for the Big Two.
Yeah, it has a very unique feel to It doesn't it.
I'm particularly looking forward to skull man, apparently it features cameos from 009/Joe Shimuramaru and Kamen riders. Crossovers in manga are Prity damn hard to come by.
I do generally feel like alot of manga released these days is to slick aswel but not all.
Black Lagoon, Death Note, Tegami Bachi, and Monster from viz media, Hellsing, Blood+, and Gantz from Dark horse etc all these are of very high quality from both respective creators/artists and distributors.
Ps Bleach is just a guilty pleasure.

Am I missing something? Samizdat Squad art was Paul Marshall surely?
It would seem the joke is on me.
Please do not punish my soft self to harshly.

Wellll I dunno, mistaking another droid's work for that of Saint D'Israeli's is quite a series, but then again we'd like to see D'Israeli draw everything in the prog and meg and so such enthusiasm can distort one's critical faculties, so we might let you off with a beating, of the perineum, with a claw hammer.
I shall worship thy mercey for the rest of my life.
