What he said, but I'll also add it has some lovely visuals, but is let down by a 'by the numbers' sci-fi plot. That, and Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise.

Oh yes, some of the visuals were gorgeous.

Oblivion. Got to see it for free. That's probably the best thing I can say about it.
Tom Cruise double proves he's not homosexual while recapturing the elements of Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Independence Day, Space Odyssey: 2001, and Return of the Jedi. Great visuals, but a blindingly obvious plot line with little to no surprises.
Overall it was an enjoyable episode. Dougray Scott was excellent, but then he's a consistently good actor. I wouldn't mind seeing him again.

There were a couple too many gags for me and took away from some of the tension and can we keep the love plot lines to one per episode please. My wife enjoyed the professor/assistant line, but even the alien love was a step too far for her.

I wonder if it's more a take on the title of Umberto Eco book The Name of the Rose. Perhaps the episode will have more to do with semiotics than the Doctor's actual name. Or monks.

Obviously being head of the IMF is taking it out of her. Old boots.

Science has it that Betelgeuse (Orion's left shoulder from an Earthbound POV) is on its last legs, and is due to go Supernovae. Could happen in a week, in a thousand years or...........NOW!* Nevertheless, whenever it does go**, they reckon it'll be brighter than the sun. I was kinda hoping it had've happened on the 21st of December last year***.

That's not a supernovae, it's Vogons making way for a hyperspace bypass.

I wish I could recommend The Man With the Iron Fists more as it's clearly a labour of love on the part of writer/director/soundtrack composer/star The Rza. It's a sumptuous homage to films of the Shaw Brothers school which manages to get a lot right. The nods and references are nicely done in that he conveys the spirit of the films that have gone before rather than something like Machete with its supposedly hilarious deliberate bad editing; the supporting cast are uniformly strong with Russell Crowe particularly impressing as an agent of the Emperor; the decision to focus on everyone fighting with more and more ludicrous weapons is a good one given the cast; the hip-hop soundtrack turns out to be a genius idea.

Unfortunately, the thing that lets the film down is the fighting itself. It's never downright bad but few of the fights are given room to breathe and there's a bit too much close up camera work for my taste. With Cory Yuen on action duties, I was a bit surprised but have since read elsewhere that this style was advocated by co-producer Eli Roth against The Rza's better judgement. If you genuinely like either old kung fu films or Wu Tang Clan then you'll get something out of this. Otherwise, best just wait and read about it on The Definite Article movie blog.

You aren't wrong here.

Disney's thinking too small. They should be thinking Perry Rhodan where a new novel is churned out every week by the monkeys writing staff.

Also what about the direct to video market. A new video bio of every imperial soldier killed on each of the Death Stars.

but the new assistant doesn't seem to have much range in her acting.

She can cry.  That's all the range she needs in NuWho isn't it?

Apparently so. I fear we're headed towards another Dimensions in Time fiasco for the 50th where Clara will be revealed a Slater.

I'm just glad they're doing an origin story.  A lot of people won't know Superman's origin, or who he is.

What a tragedy. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families.

I suggest moving. I've never considered myself a hoarder, but after 12 years in the same place I couldn't believe the amount of useless junk I was holding onto. It's much easier to part with things than moving them.

I agree. I was thinking of Sean Connery in Hunt For Red October through the whole thing. Also a dash of K-19 Widowmaker at the end.

A very good episode over all. A definite step in the right direction. The ending was still weak though.
