I think this format will kill off new users. I don't know how many post I've got to make before I can post in all the sections of the forum but it's a bit off-putting. I can understand if someone spams a thread with rude comments or links to other sites, it makes sense to stop spammers, but to have to keep posting in the vain hope I can post in other sections is not that welcoming.  As it stands, I have no idea what post count I have to reach before I am deemed "worthy" of posting on all sections of the forum.  ::)

QuoteStopped a couple of months ago.

I believe John Wagner named Logan (the judge) after you so it's a pity you're not reading the current Day of Chaos storyline because Judge Logan is playing a considerable part.  ;)

QuoteWhilst I'm a big fan of RT I'd like to see a new future war story in 2000, one might even make me come back.

Does that mean you no longer read 2000AD, Logan?

Talented chap. Amazing detail on his Defoe work.

Well it feels like a reboot because it's been so long since the last proper Indigo Prime story.  :D

I think a rebooted Rogue Trooper could be interesting and the idea of Rogue as a hitman could make for some gritty stories which may suit modern 2000AD. I felt the original Hit saga never really took off. It had huge potential. I recently read the prologue story set on Milli-Com and it was fantastic. The aliens teleported in and took out the Norts and Souther bosses. It was very Judda-like.

Given a fresh lick of paint I reckon it could work. Pat Mills brought back Flesh and that was a sequel to the original story from yonks ago so why not bring back another blast from the past like Rogue?  :)

I think the Rogue Trooper saga 'The Hit'  is one of 2000AD's very few wasted opportunities.

QuoteA year later, the series returned, now reworked to spotlight Rogue acting at the behest of peacenik aliens to assassinate twelve humans responsible for escalating hostilities on the planet. This reworking - "Rogue as Cosmic Assassin" - never worked at all, which is why they burned the storyline off in the second Winter Special.

I can remember the story ending in an abrupt way. Sadly, the saga wasn't written by Gerry Finley-Day so it seemed to lack a bit of structure and dragged on with big gaps, but the idea of Rogue as an hitman for the Milli-Com High Command was great. With a fresh approach I reckon this story could work in modern 2000AD. The reboot could be a completely new version of the Hit with new villains and new planets for Rogue to visit. If Indigo Prime can be rebooted why not The Hit?  :)

Very good news for Defoe fans. Book five will happen.  :)

From 'Everything Comes Back to 2000AD':

Quote

You've just finished working on Gordon Rennie's new strip, Aquila. What can you tell us about that?

Leigh Gallagher:

We start with a 10-page prologue in 2000 AD Prog 2012, with a full series to follow hopefully not long after . AND THEN, I jump onto book five of Defoe.

I'm currently halfway through a six-episode run, part of the ongoing Day of Chaos storyline, written by the great John Wagner. Really enjoying the break from historical reference to go crazy with the future tech and I bloody love drawing Dredd.

It's good to know Defoe will return. Perhaps Tharg can persuade Pat to pump up the Faust plot in Book five.  :) I think it's time he became the main villain of Defoe rather than hiding in the shadows!

Just realized the Mean Arena's premise is very similar to Mean Team's or vice versa if you prefer, as Mean Arena was printed before the Mean Team. Both stories had combatants fighting in street type arenas. And both used the word 'Mean' in the title!  What a spooky coincidence.

Quotebut no more Defoe for the foreseeable future.

That's a pity as there's huge potential left in the saga. As mentioned in my previous post,  Defoe vs Faust. Faust could reveal his master plan etc. To spend four books building up Defoe's world and leave it in limbo does seem strange. Perhaps Mills will come back to Defoe in the near future?  I hope so. :) If Mills wants to shorten the saga and make the fifth book the last chapter in the saga I'm sure fans won't mind. It's always best to have proper closure than leave any long running saga in mid-air.

Speaking of unended sagas, isn't Samantha Slade supposed to return?  :D

If you write a lot of different stories during a certain period of time you may get bored with some. It may be like having lots of children but one child is a bit horrible and you tend to favour the others.  :D Defoe is very detailed but the main villain, Mene Tekel/Faust, has remained in the shadows. Pat Mills usually reveals the villains early on. Torquemada made his mark in book one of Nemesis. Slaine met Slough Feg early on, Claw Carver was the clear (human) villain in Flesh and he was there from the start of that saga. Defoe struck me as slightly villain-less (apart from the crazy zombies and that mad woman that drank blood!). Perhaps the lack of Faust in the previous four books has made Mills less interested in writing Defoe book five? Defoe vs Faust would be cool and really ignite the saga.   :)

QuoteThe Capacha thing is just because you're new and the systems needs to know you're not a spammer or a robot or a robot spanner.

To misquote Number Six from the 1960s tv show The Prisoner:

"I am not a spammer, I am a person!"

:D

QuoteOh and some more Disaster 1999 too!

That was written by Gerry Finley Day, not Pat Mills.  ;)

(I am going slightly mad trying to type these recognition letters!!)

I think he must have stretched himself because two of his 2000s decade strips are in limbo. Put it another way...  it's better for a writer to finish some of his stories before creating new ones, surely?

Defoe seemed more popular than Greysuit, I doubt that will return, but Defoe had a huge backstory and many supporting characters. It would be a shame to see Pat Mills' hard work wasted. I don't know if Defoe will return in 2012, perhaps it will. I would like to see it return even if the saga is shortened and the next book is the last. Defoe hasn't encountered Faust, the main villain of Defoe. Hopefully Tharg will get Pat to write that encounter.  :)

Off topic, the posting system on this site is terrible. Why do you need to have letter verification all the time? Very frustrating. I've never encountered that system on other forums.

Not sure if anyone has noticed it but there isn't a new Defoe book this year. The saga began in 2007 with one book per year. This is the first year without a Defoe book - it would have been the fifth book. I don't know if the next book of the saga will return next year but at the present moment in time it joins Greysuit as another Pat Mills story in limbo. I wonder if Pat Mills should have concluded Defoe and Greysuit before doing Flesh 2011 and American Reaper.

If there's such as thing as trying to write too much, perhaps this is good example.
