General / Re: The 2012 COVER OF THE YEAR Vote.

What a fantastic year of prog covers. So many of them could win. Here are the ones I liked the most.

1st. 1811 (Had no hesitation in selecting this D'Israeli cover as the best cover of the year)
2nd. 1767 (I love the restrained use of colour by Trevallion on this one)
3rd. 1803 (The level of detail and Langley's skill in blending the various elements, such as water, amazes me)

Didn't realise Trifecta is a real word.
a type of bet, especially on horse races, in which the bettor must select the first three finishers...
I didn't know that either. Thanks for the info. I love learning some new bit of (fairly useless) information!

As someone who is a betting man I did know this word, much to my chagrin.
Have you have successfully placed a trifecta bet?

News / Re: New 2000AD Covers Blog

Superb cover. And great to see the cosmic claw. In the early days, Dan Dare was my favourite 2000AD character and I always envied his cosmic claw and the ability to zap enemies - no worries of bullets running out! I wish somebody would find a way through the various copyright/trademark issues to reprint Dan Dare's 2000AD adventures.

Go, street team ASDA!

Looks like a Zarjaz cover all spread out like that.

If there's such a thing as justice in this world, then this should win "Cover of the Year" award. If it does win, then I'll join Frank and jump over the moon with joy.

As for Prog 1812 - What. A. Prog.

I have to 'fess that there's a massive gap in my 2000AD knowledge (from around 1990-2010) but I think this is the best Dredd story I've ever read, coming on the back of the wonderful Day of Chaos. Cold Deck reminds of the Block Mania & Apocalypse War stories that profoundly impacted me all those years ago. I haven't read these stories for well over a quarter of a century, but I still remember the overall gist and can still visualise certain panels that were punched onto my memory circuits (
such as Judge Giant's death
). In 25 years time, I'm sure I'll still remember the gist of these three stories, and those jaw-dropping moments such as Prog 1807 and D'Israeli's cover last week.

BLOG Judge Dredd Writer Al Ewing on 2000AD's Surprising Crossover

In which Ewing discusses his plot to kill Dredd and replace him with Giant.

Thanks for sharing this link - it was an informative interview

Just when you think Dredd can't get any better, it does! The ending of this week's prog
blew me away just as much as it blew Dredd away
! I'm also enjoying the references to early 2000ADs such as the Judge Child epic (in last week's prog) and to Ro-Busters in this week's ABC Warriors.

My favourite quote was talking about a guy with a really good Borg costume, but he didn't want to be part of a group, just on his own...

Ha!  Brilliant!  What was his name? Hugh?!?

I'm a bit late to this post, but I wanted to add my galactic groat's worth and say that Dredd was especially superb in this Prog. Excellent script and artwork. Al Ewing managed to pack so much history into this, but it will still make sense to somebody who has only just joined the thrill-wagon. Somebody had already commented earlier in this post on how well Flint handled a speech heavy story and still made it good to look at. Hershey's outburst was totally justified but you are left wondering "Did she really say that!?!". And I love the TMBG reference, a band I loved. Been racking my brains for who the mystery biscuit dunker is, but cannot guess for now...

What a fantastic cover! Adored it

I'm enjoying the Dredd story but agree with the poster who said the art looks rushed. The artwork also looks rushed in The Red Seas and I've lost interest in this story. The artwork DOESN'T look rushed inAquila and I had to shut my eyes with those broken arms! Initially I would quickly glaze over Ichabod Azrael as I wasn't enjoying the story but I've come to like it now - it's probably my favourite story this week. Lenny Zero ended on a good note as well.

Prog / Re: Prog 1791: The End

I've finally got to read the Dante ending for myself as a Clickwheel subscriber. I have to say that I was disappointed. But as I reflected on it, it was weirdly appropriate. Still wish for a more clearcut ending though...

The rest of the Prog was a disappointment. Didn't like Dredd at all.

I have to wait until next Friday to find out how Dante ends. Might crack and get the paper Prog (or at least stand in WHSmith and read it for free!).
