Prog / Re: Prog 1730 : HORROR OF THE HANGMAN!

I'm reading some old Progs via Clickwheel, and was moved to post on this old thread to praise the Judge Dredd story Caterpillars, like Colm above me. This story gripped me from the start with the lady standing to throw herself off the skyscraper and recalling how utterly grim it must be to live in MC-1. Then the twist at the end... Wow! One of the best single-prog JD stories I've read

I recently came across the word 'cosplay' and wondered what it meant. Now I know!  :o

I want to lose weight - about 45lbs of fat to be more precise  :o

I want to be able to do 100 push ups (could only do 15 today!)

Read all of Charles Dickens novels (he was born 200 years ago in 1812). I loved 'Bleak House' when I read it a few years ago.

And fill in the gaps in my 2000AD knowledge (was in a thrill-sucker coma for two decades)

Film & TV / Re: the dr the widow and the wardrobe

My head tells me that it wasn't as good as last year with the clever use of time travel, the wonderful Gambon and the floating sharks - for example Bill Bailey's part was poor as was Alexander Armstrong. But my heart took over and I had tears streaming down my face at the end :'( I wasn't moved like this last year and I don't usually like sappy happy endings. I was convinced the father would die and intellectually think that him staying dead would make a better ending to the story. I'm going to watch it again on iPlayer and hopefully get a more objective view of the story. But then again, I love it when a story graps my heart and moves me emotionally. Objectivity can be overrated.

Prog / Re: Prog 1764: Customd & Exos

I'm jealous that you've got Prog 1764 already. I'm resigned to waiting another two weeks before I read it via Clickwheel. But this gap is giving me an opportunity to get hold of old progs & tradebacks and begin the process of filling in a 20 year gap in my memory circuits.

My highlight was Absalom. Those of you who have seen my other posts will remember that it was this character that got me back into the habit of reading 2000AD every week after an absence of 20 years. He's a fantastic mixture of Gene Hunt, Constantine & Dorien Gray. My disappointment is that it was a one-off story while some of the others were kicking off into series.

I've only recently been re-introduced to 2000AD - can someone tell me where I can read Age Of The Wolf 1? When did it previously run on 2000AD?
Barney (as always) is your friend

Thanks! I've only recently worked out that Barney is a website and not a forum member  :-[

Racking my memories - was Barney a town hall computer in an early Dredd story? Tried to make everyone happy but it all ended in tears?...

I must confess that I had seen the name Barney mentioned a few times on this forum and I thought it was a real person who was looked upon as a 2000AD expert by other forum members  :-[

comicbookdb should have a fairly complete index too:

This information is really useful. Thanks Emperor!

This is a good question and I would be interested in this information as well.

Will the wiki (whenever it opens) contain this info?

I'm one of the few that has dropped paper comics in favour of digital. I actually enjoy the experience of reading the comic on my PC, zooming in on zarjaz artwork so I can see individual brushstrokes and then zooming out. The colours on a monitor are so gorgeous that you want to lick the screen at times. And I re-read my comics far more when they're only a couple of clicks away. My paper comics are filed away and I don't tend to pull them out very often to re-read. My old comics are stored in my loft and it's a major hassle to get them out. The other advantage for me is that it's so much cheaper and every penny counts when you're unemployed in these hard economic times.

Off Topic / Memories of Christmas & 2000AD
18 December, 2011, 10:31:31 PM
2000AD was at the centre of one of my strongest childhood Christmas memories. I remember being drawn-out bored on Christmas Eve as it seems to stretch F-O-R-E-V-E-R while I was waiting for Christmas Day to arrive. I remember sitting on the stairs waiting for the newspaper boy to deliver my weekly issue of 2000AD and being blown away by the Christmas-themed cover of Prog 44. The thrill-power I received kept me going for the rest of the day. And then when I woke up early on Christmas Day, I was so excited to see that Santa had put a 2000AD annual in my stocking. That was a zarjaz Christmas!

I'm sure that there must be others here on the Forum who have special memories of Christmas & 2000AD going together like turkey & stuffing! Feel free to share on this thread if you so wish.

Merry Christmas :D
