General / Messageboards, are they the new chatrooms?
03 November, 2002, 02:51:15 AM
CLANG!!!

Just read the new prog and I cannot believe that someone has wrote in dissing the old V.C.s for not having a storyline yet praising the new V.C.s and saying it has. Have they actually read the old V.C.s?, do they not understand character history and development? I felt like I personally knew each of the oldies while Smith represented me and probably a lot of other boarders here. We got background on each of them, and dreaded seeing them being inevitably killed one by one in a manner that made you wish you could have been there to change it all.

When Lasall or whatever his name was, was killed in the new V.C.s I didn't give a toss, I new nothing about him or his companions, so I had nothing to bond me to them. I long for a strip that will once more emotionally stir me the way the original V.C.s did, but it seems these days all we have to rely on for a tug on the old heart-strings is the occasional Dredd story.

Will someone tell me I'm not the only one who feels this way about the V.C.s or the stories in general, I can't be alone in this...or can I?

General / Club Scojo!
31 October, 2002, 06:14:00 AM
Not a call to arms I'm afraid, merely another stupid idea I've come up with for a club. Ahem..."Have you been accused of being Scojo either on the boards or in the chatroom?" If so you are entitled to become a member of "Club Scojo"

There are no benefits to this club whatsoever, unless you actually are Scojo and then it becomes a bit double-bluffy and Trojan horsey. If possible provide proof by copying the attack upon your person from the log or board and paste it here. Here's mine:

El Spurioso: Give it up, Scojo.

El Spurioso: Well now, isn't this just a little murder-mystery weekend......    Somehow Scojo's watching this chat.  I know who I'd nominate.

El Spurioso: Karne - just out of interest, how do you feel about fan screenplays?

Many thanks to my sponsor Si. I hope he will do me the honour of accepting the role of club President.

Karne (not Scojo)

General / No Title

I've finally cracked the secret of time travel and plan to go back in time and assasinate Mark Millar in an attempt to ensure an unbroken run of thrill power (I have also brought a spare bullet in case I bump into Mark Eyles). Anyone wishing to accompany me on such a hazardous journey will be expected to wear suitable attire and bring a packed lunch.

The benefits of this expedition will include a chance to obtain mint condition early issues of 2000ad, the opportunity to disuade Alan Moore from leaving 2k just because some yanks offer him more money (I have the baseball bats), write into Tharg informing him who the Dead man is before it even appears in the mag and beer at 1977 prices. There is no need to cancel the milk or phone into work sick as we will be back before we set off.

Most of the characters appearing in 2k and it's sister/brother publications over the years have been based on media stars popular at the time of their conception, Clint Eastwood for Dredd, Harrison Ford (Deckard variant) for Harry twenty, Debbie Harry for Anderson  and apparently Lee Marvin for Claw Carver (unconfirmed). Your task is to name the stars who you think inspired the 2k characters.

The following rules must be observed:

1.It doesn't matter if you're way off the mark, just as long as people can see a resemblance.

2.It has to be a star who was around at the time of the strip i.e: Brad Pitt could not have been the basis for 2k's version of The Stainless Steel Rat because he hadn't fully developed his acting skills (diGriz's likeness was probably based on James Coburn)

3. Be prepared for everyone else to strongly dispute your reasons, and generally laugh at your stupidity.

Not a competition as such but open to all ages (except the iron age and "the age of the train" Now then, now then.)

My personal bet is that Carver Hale's rat-faced chum was based on Steve "rat-face" Buscemi, what do other readers think, and do I care?

General / It's not big and it's not clever.
22 October, 2002, 07:15:17 AM
Well in light of the positive response to my animal based 2K posting I've decided to give you all another go. This time however a sweary based 2k.

Here's some to get you started:

Ar*e Trucking Co.

Strontium c*ck

Dr & Qu*ms

Bison

Please remember there is nothing grown up and clever about swearing, and if you think there is Tharg will personally wash your filthy mouth out with funtin soap you skevving little drokker.

This won't get me banned from the board will it?

General / Animal Tragic
21 October, 2002, 04:30:50 AM
Just for fun, can you think of any characters who would be suitable for an animal based issue of 2K.
Here's some to help you get started:

Rogue Tapir
Strontium Frog
ABC Warthogs

Remember if you are using scissors or glue, always ask an adult for help.

Credit or blame to DXB for his monkey based inspiration.

General / Why is there crap in my prog?
20 October, 2002, 08:36:59 AM
If Tharg's so mighty, why does he allow so many below average stories to appear in the mag? Discuss.

Arguments about maintaining the balance will not be entertained, neither will the following:

I wanted to try something different (I had a space to fill and a deadline to meet and so I raided the reject pile).

It was right for the time (obviously not).

I wanted to attract new readers (by alienating and losing the old readers).

It was the fault of the staff droids.

The Dictators of Zrag did it.

There are no prizes (but what's so good about some over-priced postcards anyway) and no marks will be awarded to the most original answers. Remember if you would like your answer returned please enclose a stamped addressed E-Mail. :)

General / Dredd...dead...sort of.
14 October, 2002, 10:21:42 PM
From the look of recent stories, Rico is being groomed as Joe's inevitable replacement (well he is getting on a bit isn't he). What do you think, is it time for a new fresh Dredd or are you happy to see a wheelchair bound Dredd trundle away into his nineties? Give it spleen me bucko's!

General / Press my button Mr Moore!!!
05 October, 2002, 10:38:07 PM
Now that Steve Moore seems to be making regular contributions to 2K, Is there any chance of getting him to write some new Axel Pressbutton/Laser eraser strips for the mag? I know they're not 2000ad characters but, then Strontium Dog and Ro-buster's weren't either. (the less said about Kelly's eye the better) They wouldn't be out of place, and it would give a whole new generation the chance to see why it's still popular today (apparently a limited edition Zirk has just been released, cool or what!). Failing that how about some reruns in the Megazine?

If anyone hasn't a clue what I'm on about check out some of the site's out there. I can't provide any link's co's my favourites folder (amongst other thing's) was a casualty of a recent crash, I guess that's why you should keep back-up's eh.

General / If you could be any 2000ad character...
05 October, 2002, 12:25:49 AM
Here's another daft one for you all. If you could be any 2000ad character, who would you be and why? I will of course be expecting the usual sexually disturbed replies about if you were female for a day (assuming you're male and straight), so don't dissapoint me now. Personally I would be Durham Red so that I could play with my boobies, I mean so that I could ...umm..ahh... Oh damn these sub-concious thought's that make themselves heard!

General / It's Christmas...where's my annuals?
04 October, 2002, 02:53:28 AM
Don't know if it's cost effective anymore, but would anyone else be interested in a resurrection of the annuals now that 2000ad is (hopefully) in better hands. Imagine nice hardbacks, no reprints, dull text stories or features about NASA and their shuttles. Or are you happy with a big, thick overpriced and less frequent prog to tide you over the festive season:)

Feel free to treat me and my deranged rambling's with the contempt I deserve.

Suggestions / Hollywood does it, why can't 2000ad?
01 October, 2002, 04:22:06 AM
Just a thought, but how does everyone feel about remakes of old 2000ad stories using different artists and possibly different writers. would you prefer this to just using reprints, or are you set in your ways and dont even want to think about such blasphemy! I'm well aware of the calibre of most Hollywood remakes, but as this is a different medium, and a lot of classic 2000ad stories would benefit from an artistic makeover at least (Flesh book 1 being one), I think it has possibilities. I know Mr. Mills attempted something similar with his "directors cut" of Return Of Rico, but I personally felt he spoiled a perfect story by extending it in order to get on his moral soapbox again :). Anyway the balls in your court, please refrain from crucifying me.
