Prog / Re: Prog 1786 - the Beginning of the End

Does that make Roger's posts the equivalent of custard pies?  With his mom at large, I would have thought it more fitting to think of them as crea...   :-X  No.  Forget I started that.

Ouch.  Wouldn't you just know it?  Extra-long Bank Holiday guff and no Prog today.  I'll just have to subsist on the Paragon the postie did deign to bring.  Still a pain, though.  Fairly aching to see Dredd, Dante and Grey Area.
A Cow, I'm inclined to agree with your take on Ezquerra's work on Durham Red, but I'm thinking it's perhaps the 'cost' of the colouring.

Vimto, Mr Goggans?  Really?  Vimto?  That stuff is allowed out of the country?  Oh, dear.  Are you sure, sir, that your local shop isn't called Tastes Like Brit?

No idea what, "Next prog: A Meeting of Minds" might portend.  (I'd like to imagine it's a hint at Anderson, but I'm probably reaching there.)

I hope so, too, and possibly seeing Cass put the psi-slap on whichever sleeper agent (may have) put the push on the medical orderly what did done for Mr Big Sov.  But with this week's trip to the Meg called Tea For Two but teased as Interlude From Hell, I'm betting A Meeting Of Minds will feature some "Clump!" in the dialogue as we perhaps begin the slide into the results of Eve of Destruction on the status quo.

Wolves don't have opposable thumbs.  How the hell did they use to light the candles on your birthday cake?  You poor, poor man.  I get it now.  I guess they never bothered.  Lazy funting wolves, forcing you to hide your pain with sarcasm.  Useless canine shits.

Happy Birthday, Mr Bates.  I hope you have a cake lovingly adorned with all the flame in the world.

That'll be my job as well...

Oh, I rather doubt that.  Tell you what...  Pact.  You and I can keep the other safe on the straight and narrow.  I'll bring the Boing(tm) cutters in case, oh, say, somebody encases you and you can ocassionally nudge me and say, "Whit, no, trust me.  Stop."  Deal?

Crown and Anchor?  Top stuff.

Only that a pub be involved.  :)

Well, how else can I maximise my chances of making a slithering ass of myself should there be a space left on the collective dance-card for a newbie inductee into the assembling ranks of the mighty Southern Contingent?
Of course, being a true Soft Suvven Ponce, it'll have to be Babycham.  Or Martini if I try to show off.  I hope that won't preclude being allowed behind the curtain.

Hold on.  What's to stop you slaughtering the Discarray guy anyway?  Actually, come to think of it, I'm not the Discarray guy so what do I care?  Knock yourself somebody else out.

Besterest Wishes on your're birthday, Roger.

:o   Colin MacNeil is Santa?!  Oh, Joe, you've spoilt Christmas for millions now... but I s'pose it fits.  Lives in the North, makes wishes come true, probably doesn't mind people leaving booze and cakes for him...  Why didn't I see that before?  Colin, you sly sod, you.  (Where's my BigTrak?)

Cover - It's retro... it's futuristic... it's futuroretr...  ah, it's just not clicking with me.

Dredd - Joey D and Vienna do soap opera Mega-City One style.  The insight into Dredd's sense of burden and even guilt was an event.  Plus, who doesn't love a Lawmaster on auto?  A great moment aside from the main event and still crammed with details to enjoy.  (Except a certain jostling Dept-issue nappy full of bollocks.)

Flesh - Flogged pish putting the Cret into cretinous.  A book to be remembered for elevating Flesh to the dithering heights of being convoluted and inconsequential at the same time.  I'm a naysayer but it doesn't matter; Flesh will return, to celebrate itself yet again, and that's that.

Red - Opening with a flashforward was working... until it was followed by Jones and I wondered what else was going to be tag-along device padding.  Really bad mood tonight, so likely unfair to Alan Grant.  I can see how it accentuated Durham's zest for snarky lonerism but it left the strip seeming somehow weaker, no matter how well he traded off Alpha in its wake.  Can't even find it in myself to be excited that this features Ezquerra touching contemporary base with characters and set-ups that date back to my early years of reading the Prog.  Something must be wrong with me.

Grey - A welcome return that hits the ground running and I can forgive the Missing Grins (mostly because their faces do look frozen as one's might if trying not to grin) because nothing else got in the way of this strip actually (however narrowly) beating Dredd for me this week.  Got a sense of a tactile dimension to both the art and the story for some reason re-reads haven't quite revealed to me.  Won't knock it.

Anderson - Jeez.  I never expected it to be this twee.  This left a sour taste in my sensibilities regarding Grant.  If this is supposed to be some sort of origin story presaging Stone Voices, why six weeks instead of six panels of flashback?  If it's not supposed to be some sort of origin for Algol, what the hell is it really but limp filler with little to give us in the way of Anderson's formative period?  With the lettering and "Shenker" it comes across as slapdash with its (otherwise very welcome) achievement of presenting a great marriage of Yeowell and De La Cruz I hope to see more of.  Of course, I could just be bitching because I didn't get my fantasy glimpse of Feyy and Ecks playing it up like Matthau and Lemon.  (Come on, that'd work!)  Mind you, what I'd really like to see if we're going to get more Cadet Anderson after this would be some Omar, if only so Anderson could see what a real psi-judge is like as opposed to a wonky haircut slapped on top of a vague mother-substitute.  Disappointing.

High - "It was a joke, Birdy."

Low - Seeing that half-face panel of McGurk and thinking, "That's pretty good" because it thereupon made all the rest look lazy.

That's bloody sodding wonderful news about The Jam!  It's given me a bit of a buzz just knowing it's going to be out there in collection at last, and with new stuff available to boot.  Always great stuff to return to.  Thanks a lot for the nod on that, Ghostpockets.

I guess there's actually no arguing with that.

This married man with the johnnies...  Does he also have a well-worn passport and spend a lot of time in the loo?  Is he regularly flush with cash after disappearing for yet another short trip away?  Hey, I'm not judging.  In fact, I'd appreciate being PM'd his number.  I could do with a few extra quid and some travel myself, and putting "Drug Mule" on my CV can't hurt for getting it actually read more often.

I have actually never (ever) seen a 3D movie, and until now I've not really been all that fussed about it.  Somehow, I don't think Dredd in 3D is going to be a disappointing cherry-pop.
Thanks for posting the quote, Goaty.
