No wonder Mary Whitehouse and Frank Bough were up in arms. That's positively obscene...

Um, can I say how much I like the Scrap?

It took until episode 3 for me to warm to it and episode 4 for me to love it.

I think its development of character is spot on, and its pacing is excellent.

Most important, apart from the technical stuff, is that Si's got his own voice. He's not a Wagner/Mill/Morrison (Grant or Robbie) clone but someone else entirely, and it's that which makes the Scrap great.

Kudos.

I have a certain sympathy with that view.

Tell me something decent that Wagner's written that wasn't in 2000AD or Battle.

Watcher: Millar took the readers for fools, and if you didnt laugh along with him, the joke was on you - deeply nasty stuff, that went beyond being bad into actually rubbishing the stories he worked on, and the audience the stories were meant for.

Um, surely the recognition that all this stuff - whether it's Mega-City One or whatever spandexboy fits your pleasure (oooh, suits YOU, sir) - is (although enteratining) really rather lame, hokey and daft and therefore Not To Be Taken Seriously is actually pretty healthy?

I mean, we all know it's stupid. That's part of the reason it's so much fun. Comics are high kitsch, and 2000AD, while one of the finest expressions of the medium, is no exception.

*think balloon (one for the scriptdroids members there)*

Ha! No one has yet surmised that I am in fact Mark Millar!

the comic shop is cathy comics in plymouth by the way,
they are a great resource and deserve a plug.

(former Plymouth inhabitant tangent) While the staff in Kathie's were always friendly, I always found Purple Haze better for actually buying stuff.

Hewligan's Haircut is one of my favourite series ever. It rocked. Hewligan was a lunatic whose haircut made reality go wonky. Although that doesn't do justice to it. It was a worked of skewed, anarchic genius. Bet the Watcher hated it. :p

Apparently when they were doing the first GN they rang up Vidal Sassoon for a quote, who said "this is not the sort of thing we want to be involved in," which they ran anyway.
