Heralding the return of the legendary Eric Bradbury, no less.

Sorry I missed that, whats Eric Bradbury going to be working on?

There was a mixup with the covers on the website - the shop was originally showing the cover for prog 325 instead of Meg 325.

Cover - Not much to say about this.  Perfectly good cover: I guess I'm just not sufficiently emotionally invested in Grey Area to be all that interested. B

Dredd - So the election is going ahead after all?  I'm definitely seeing this as setup for a radical result due to only a tiny minority of people bothering to vote.  Henry Flint's art is as good as ever, with some awesome scenes of widespread destruction; love the scene with the train, and there's some beautiful colouring with the sunlight on that page and the next one.  "In many respects, model citizens," cracked me up. And that final page...  First time I've ever seen an image of Dredd that made me think, "He looks like he needs a hug."  Reminds me of Fargo's moment of weakness in Origins, but where can Dredd possibly turn when he's at his lowest?  A++

Durham Red - Still love the art, still inclined to roll my eyes at times at Red's costume... the plot in this instalment is all actiony actiony action, so not much to say about that.  It's an entertaining way to pass the time, though I'm losing hope that it's going to end up accomplishing any more than that. B+

Grey Area - Wait, that was the entire wrap-up?  This series finally felt like it was coming together with a strong ongoing plot, and then it's all done and neatly tied off in a bow in one episode.  Shame.  I do really love the art on this and feel like it's been steadily improving, although there are still odd panels where things look a bit flat.  Overall, there's nothing wrong with this instalment, but it hasn't capitalised on the potential of the story like I wished, so it's slightly disappointing. B

Future Shock - Neat concept, bit clunky in the telling in places.  (I'm irrationally irked by the fact that Chip's narration continues into the final panel.  Just seems awkward.)  I like Nick Dyer's art, but in contrast to Williams last week, I think I prefer his stuff in colour.  Nice final panels, though. B

Nikolai Dante - Some suspiciously familiar names referenced in the first few panels there. :D  What a fabulous second page!  Really, what's even left to say about this story?  So good.  I'm going to miss it. A

Great prog.  The filling in the sandwich maybe isn't reaching quite the full potential it could, but it's really hard to care when the stories that bookend it are both sooo good.

The shop has Meg 325 for sale but a pic of Prog 325 from July 83. is someone having a laugh?

Simple copy and paste error, "progs" instead of "megs" in the image URL:

Although it is kind of surprising the shop site even has cover images from that far back.

Right, own up, which one of you buggers broke Twitter right when the HD trailer made its debut?  ::)  It's been down for over an hour.

Quote from: ming on 19 June, 2012, 11:56:47 AMOh, and has 'Slay per View' been used as a tag-line before?  It's very familiar-sounding, and I thought it might have been used in Sinister Dexter, for some reason.  EDIT: Ah, yes, it has.

I was wondering about that, actually.  Seemed like far too obvious a line to have gone unused this long.

Quote from: WhitBloke on 18 June, 2012, 06:05:13 PMRegarding the Cursed Earth Resources angle, I'm wondering if that ain't where Rico's loitering off-panel.

I did actually wonder if Rico stayed involved with the mutant township project after Dredd left, since I don't think he's appeared since Tour of Duty except in Cursed Earth Koburn.  Maybe he took over Dredd's role out there after Dredd came home?

Wonder if we'll see Hershey return in the wake of Chaos Day?  They're surely going to need Judges of her experience, and considering I'm not convinced Francisco's going to last the distance, she could even end up pulling a McGruder and serving a second term as Chief Judge.  (Hopefully sans beard and descent into erratic behaviour, but hey, you never know.)

I'd love it even more if they're so pressed for Judges they're forced to relax the unjudicial liaison rules and let DeMarco back in, but that's a much longer shot. :D Seriously, though, I would like to know what's happened to her, a civilian in the middle of all this chaos.  There are a long list of characters who are going to need to check in at the end of this just so we know they came through it all right; the supporting cast has grown a lot larger since the days of Apocalypse War and Necropolis.  I'm still wondering if Roffman survived the fall of the Statue of Judgement...

Quote from: Richard on 18 June, 2012, 03:41:44 PMI always assumed that the full eagle meant the eagle on the badge, not the shoulder-pad.

Yeah, I think the 'correct' rookie uniform is shoulder eagle, white helmet and half-eagle badge (though some artists seem to forget to depict the half badge).  Cadets out on their hot dog run seem to wear the same.  I think the shoulder eagle basically signifies that they're acting in the capacitiy of Judges, with the senior Judge along just to observe and watch for screw-ups, whereas cadets without shoulder pads are trainees out with a teacher and need special authorisation to be allowed to do anything.

Quote from: Syne on 16 June, 2012, 12:46:17 PMIf Wagner had thought things through, Mega City would have come out of that war as devastated as it's shaping up to be now. But because of the different tone of the strip back then, it pretty much got a free pass.

I agree the impact was more superficial, but then in all fairness, MC-1 won the Apocalypse War

Yeah; I think the key difference is that in the Apocalypse War, the Judges would have been viewed by the population as the heroes, pulling together with the cits to fight off the Sovs, and that would have made efforts to restore order and rebuild afterwards much easier.  This time the cits are against the Judges, and they're going to be fighting them all the way if they attempt to put things "back to normal" afterwards.
