Help! / Re: Can I get the 2000 AD app in Android?

I think 'soon' is still a good answer to the question.  Thanks for the answer Molch-R!  My phone-of-the-future and I are happy

Hi Crazy Fox etc, I've got all the ones you mention here.  Just let me know what you're still after and they're yours for two pounds a pop plus postage.  One problem, they don't come with the covers and cases - is that a problem

Oh and, yes, the Strontium Dog ones were excellent.

Just saw 'Colld War'.  It seems to be Hunt For Red  October meets  Alien, with a dash of the Doctor pleading with  someone ruthless to be nice and lots of water thrown on the sidekick.  What did the rest of you think?

I agree that there's too much backing music and that Callan is absolute genius, but take exception to you calling Lana from Smallville a cow.  She can do no wrong.  Phwoarr.

When I was a kid, B7 was cool because it was like Dr Who, but very adult.  They didn't have to do anything adult; they just acted as if they did.  Back in them days there wasn't the vast choice there is now.
Watching it later, well, 'objectively shit' is a bit harsh, but the ropey effects were more obvious and the acting had its ups and downs.  I loved the way they kept using modernist corporate buildings as sets - I worked at a regional uni in Japan that was just crying for a bunch of plucky rebels and a Servelan or two.

Help! / Re: Calling Ubuntu Fiends
13 April, 2013, 10:32:16 PM
!thanks for the fast response, Art!  unnn, well I have installed 8.04 because I asked on the net and found someone sayingthat8.04 was the way to go for this ancient eeepc. I had no intention of avoiding Unity, which Iassume to  be another kind of Ubuntu, although it sounds like a 2000AD story (Can Dredd avoid - shudder - Unity).
I have been downloading Opera from the wab.

thanks,

Floyd

Help! / Calling Ubuntu Fiends

This is a long shot, but collectively you seem to know everything so it's worth a try...

I have an old 701 eeepc.  I've just installed ubuntu 8.04* on it.  It works and I've been congratulating myself on my general awesomess when....
I tried to put Opera on it and failed miserably.  The only guide I can find tells me to install the latest Opera, but when I try that I get a 'wrong version' message.
  Over to you,

Floyd

*Hardy Heron for you Ubuntu name buffs, not to be confused with pretentious panther, oscillating ocelot etc

welcome DreddRunner from Melbourne Australia (it's just like the first Mad Max film, but more multicultural)!
You have a lot of excellent reading ahead of you, you lucky person.

Well there is that.  Nobody could loll evilly in front of a computer like Servelan could!  Certainly not Patrick MacGoohan

the ones I've read suffered from being neither fish nor feathered fowl in the way that Torchwood* did - I mean, they made it juvenile in the wrong ways but kept a jarring adult tone so as to not appeal to young kiddies (who like a decent story as much as anyone) or to older readers (who already had the regular comic to read and who also like a decent story).  I only read a couple, so could be wrong about this.

*yes, I know Toichwood has been a massive success, but I thought it sucked

I saw Hugo Weaving at a market here....wait a minute, that's a different thread.

Half of me would like a B7 reboot because I liked the original and the new Dr Who has been absolutely fantastic.  The other half remembers the new version of The Prisoner, shudders and wishes just once someone would leave well enough alone.
Of course there are differences there; The Prisoner was pretty much absolutely perfect and a work of genius. Much as I love Blakes 7, it was neither of those things.
