Film & TV / Re: The Avengers (2012)
30 April, 2012, 09:12:49 AM
I'm glad  I saw it in 2d - the few cool moments aren't worth the cost for mine.  Besides, my eyes get used to 3d really fast, so after that, it's just like watching 2d anyway.  Radiator puts it pretty well - good fun, not perfect, but a pretty good Avengers movie.  The Hulk was excellent, I too liked Loki's horns, Iron Man was okay (nowhere near as much fun as we're supposed to think he is, but good).  I didn't care for Hawkeye much because I remember the casual wisecracking Hawkeye from the comics, but if I put that aside, the grim Daniel  Craig-ish Hawkeye was alright.
I may see it again, with the excuse of taking my young nephew.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

Dunno if this calls for moderation or not,but I'm reading 'Another Self' by James Lees-Milne, in a beautiful Slightly Foxed edition, as part of my read-every- book-I-recieve-as-a-gift project. So far it's not very engaging, but maybe it'll grow on me.  I'm also reading 'A Princess of Mars', which is much more fun.
And a big hello to HoU, who I remember as a funster in the chatroom way back

Because today i picked up, for fifty pee each from a market:

Valiant (15 nov 1969) with captain hurricane, kelly's eye, sexton blake, steel claw, house of dolmann, mytek the mighty and the shrinker from space.

Valiant and TV21 (2 oct 1971) with cap'n hurricane, janus stark, star trek- not gold key reprints, in colour, the return of the claw and kelly's eye.

Champion (28 may 1966) in which 'return of the stormtroopers' looks very eric bradbury-esque, battler britton has a couple of pages and there are a bunch of scifi adventure two-pagers in the back, including the finale of 'when the sky turned green' featuring the lovecraftian mermods.

Cor!! (29 aug 1970) sadly without Rat Trap but at least a brilliant Kid Chameleon colour centerspread.

And, most excitingly:

The Skipper (no. 22, jan 31st 1931. Yes, 1931) which is a pre-comic strip boys' weekly 'paper', which features stories and features from the pre-war world, including 'queeriosities' and 'around the queer houses of the world'.

SBT

I probably read that copy of Cor! back in 1970, along with Whizzer and Chips.
Today life is okay because a mate has mailed me some Big Finish stuff, free gratis and for nothing from Korea.  A Who novelisation, a McCoy Who audio drama and Hound of the Baskervlles

well thanks for the sentiment, O Trout.  I suppose if the diggers can prove their all-round awesomeness by failing to invade Turkey, I can at least keep putting progs up on this thread.

this is where David Cameron should really intervene to bring great British Art back to the UK.....
  Any other takers? David....?

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

Me, I spent a bit of Anzac day watching The Avengers.  I really liked it.  The characters were  mostly good - the Black Widow didn't do anything for me, but all else was quality.  The guy who played Hawkeye, although nothing like the comics Hawkeye, reminded me a lot of Daniel Craig.  The main men worked well together.  I did get a bit explosioned out by the end, but overall it was damn good fun.

latest offer is two pounds each for the drawings

in breathtaking news, TWO people have written to me to express interest in the drawings.  Both are asking what I'll take for them so I'll start at one pound each or two pounds for the lot.  A scan is on the way to one of you as soon as I overcome some technical difficulties.

yours, wondering what colour stretch-humvee he should buy,

there's much more than Flight of the Concordes to NZ; they have politicians who keep their promises, Kimbra and a thriving indie music scene and a lot of bungee jumping

Film Discussion / Re: A Cardinal Error to Avoid

why yes, it was three months ago, I hadn't noticed. I've been out of touch with the board, so I'm just looking around and answering things when I feel like it.  Never mind, I'm quicker on the uptake than anyone who thinks Obama is in any way socialist.

yes, I'm fine, apart from feeling shaken for a few days.  The niceness of the witnesses was what made me think of it for this thread.  Also I was lucky - if I'd been square in front of the car when she'd turned, I might be a lot less functional.
