just reading through this thread again - I suppose it's nice to imagine this or that charactor being made into a movie but lets be honest who is going to waste any money on buying rights when the only big budget 2000ad movie to date was crap and made no money the move industry is the prime exponent of the once bitten twice shy school of philosphy- I think we have to get a sense of perspective here - which is why Button man stands out - handled well it would be pretty good, it wouldn't cost that much to make and properly pitched could stand a good chance of making it's money back - or we could have someone dig around through the back issues and make a movie like Hardware....

There is one 2000ad strip that could be made into a movie - it would be the one to build on and would not cost any more than say your usual 4 part drama the BBC stick on a Sunday night - it would prove anyone that the galaxies greatest is an untapped source of movie potential. Button Man - FFS if I had the money I'd make it to a bloody movie....

It's funny but I reckon the three best Comic movies are

1 Unbreakable
2 Darkman
3 Robocop

...and yet not one of them is based on a specific "comic book". S'funny

News / Cronenberg to direct Wagner Comic Movie?
15 February, 2004, 04:09:44 AM
if this has been discussed before apologies but thought you might be interested in this from My Movie.net

COMIC BOOK ADAPTATION NEXT FOR CRONENBERG
14 February 2004
The notoriously weird and wonderful director David Cronenberg has found a new project to divert his remarkable imagination in graphic novel "A History of Violence."

The first in the Paradox Mystery line of books published by Paradox Press/DC Comics and written by "Judge Dredd" creator John Wagner, "A History of Violence" follows the upheaval in an ordinary family?s life when the father is suddenly thrown into the spotlight after he kills someone in self?defence. As national attention focuses on the seemingly average Dad, his previously unknown past is uncovered.

But the "eXistenz" director won?t be the first to bring one of the books in the Paradox Mystery series to the big screen: Sam Mendes and Tom Hanks beat him to it last year by adapting the second book in the series "Road to Perdition."

"Sonny Steelgrove" was an alias used during the Dredd period we don't talk about - whoops I've already said too much......See Dredd falling through a whirlpool (while they were out in a boat or something just like Valley of the Dinosaurs) and being sucked back in time just as bad bob booth pushed the button -

General / Re: Why bother reading bad strips?...
14 February, 2004, 05:05:47 PM
...You'll only know if it's bad after a few weeks so I give everything a chance - but things like Slaine (which I gave up on after time killers)- I suppose the issue is that because 2000ad is anthology you are going to get a mixture of good and bad

and regardless of what does his mom and sister still die?

I still don't buy it - yes there may well be more in the deleted scenes and the extras on the website but any movie succeeds or fails on what we actually see on the screen

What didn't I like about Donnie Darko? I thought it was just an empty experience- there was no great insight, nothing really innovative and some down right odd performances.. And why was Drew Barrynore in it - apart from being a producer she seemed to have been wheeled in from a different movie (that "I'm a teacher in a rundown urban environment with Michelle Pfieffer teaching the kids about poetry thing whose name I completely forget) and that wasn't the only echo of other movies the scene at the PTA appeared to me to be little more than a retread of the school PTA meeting in Field of Dreams. As for the whole lets go to Ma Death (or what ever her name was) house -why where the two jocks there in her basement? But the key is that with movies you either buy into the idea / concept / story or you don't - in this case I didn't -
