General / Re: Judge Dredd Chronology...........

And in honour of plagiarists everywhere I've written this poem.

It's called The Twilight Zone.

A pleasant faced man steps up to greet you
He smiles and says hes pleased to meet you
Beneath his hat the strangeness lies
Take it off, hes got three eyes
Truth is false and logic lost
Now the fourth dimension is crossed

You have entered the twilight zone
Beyond this world strange things are known
Use the key, unlock the door
See what your fate might have in store
Come explore your dreams creation
Enter this world of imagination

Wake up lost in an empty town
Wondering why no one else is around
Look up to see a giant boy
Youve just become his brand new toy
No escape, no place to hide
Here where time and space collide.

++ Who are you, and what have you done with the real philt? ;-) ++

Praise when praise is due. When I put down this weeks prog I thought "wow" then that next Monday can't come quick enough. 2000AD at it's best, 31 years after it launched.

The Galaxies Greatest Comic?

At the moment there's no question.

Is it just me or has 2000ad ever been better than it is at the moment? The art is generally excellent and even the weakest (ahem) story Strontium Dog would under other circumstances be amongst the strongest.

Keep it up Tharg

Prog / PROG 1570 - Get Whet

The joys of getting progs delivered to work..

Details to follow but the lunacy in Shakara continues, although a holding episode Kingdom remains intriguing.

The cover is quality. How Elson has developed as a 'droid is astonishing.

I think three things killed my love of Star Trek - Discovering Babylon 5, Star Trek 9 Insurrection (fnarr) but mostly Galaxy Quest.

A couple of things. When I realised Maybe was in this I thought - dear god not again. I can't stick PJ Maybe. Never have. I don't think the Dredd story needs the addition of PJ Maybe (yawn who escaped from a bonfire in a conveniently sited trap door that the judges with all their hi-tech jiggery-pokery missed - something that I suspect a forensic team would pick up today I'd imagine. But as with a few things in Dredd I suppose this is just another one of those suspensions of disbelief we all have to periodically engage in) is necessary. I think the whole thing could now collapse under the weight of continuity and dangling plot ends - but Wagner's pulled things out of the bag with worse so I'll reserve judgement on this

The second thing concerns Kingdom. Either it's an artistic tick Richard Elson has or his he suggesting something with the blank faced Leezee (and crowd members) in the "long" shots?

Other than that a great prog.

Books & Comics / Re: DEATHRAY? SCI-FI NOW? SFX?.......

SFX hated Stargate up to the point Buffy finished. Suddenly Stargate became "good". I'm sure this had nothing to do with the fact it was pretty much the only first run SF programme on TV at the time.

Surely the internet makes magazines irrelevant? The "news" is at least 4 weeks old, the interviews little more than faintly rewritten Press Releases and the reviews no better than you get online. I gave up on SFX years ago.

The Stade have long been accused of being little more than Korn copists. And on listening previous releases it wasn't hard to see why. It's a tag this album will simply blow away. I don't know where to start. The title is the first clue. "Have to Say Something" redefines rock. They don't say something they say everything. We're back at year zero, a paradigm shift for metal. Paul Dudley, Andy Jones and Linda Hart have taken the three basic components of hard rock (drums, guitars and volume) and come up with something quite extraordinary an album that immediately dates and then consigns old metal to the dustbin. On tracks "One Dark Day" and "Open To Hell" Dudley stakes his claim to the title  greatest rock singer. By the time "It Can Only Be Your Nightmare" rolls round it's his.

Unreservedly recommended. Whatever prejudices you had before about The Stade leave them aside. Metal was never like this and it will never be the same again

Sometimes it's just better for singers to quietly fade away - a lesson which won't be lost on 70's Dutch crooner Ruud de Wild. He had a minor return to the spotlight when he was the featured vocalist on DJ Oranje's summer smash "Open Your Arms". Thinking that his singing contributed to it's success, rather than the suggestive video that accompanied the track, de Wild released this quick cash in album "People Might Remember". A few did. But most didn't. Perhaps unfairly condemned as "James Last does eurotrance" the album does have a few moments of kitsch pleasure but beyond this there's little to recommend it. Despite de Wild's best efforts the album was soon relegated to the bargain bins.http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u26/phil90125/Ruud.jpg?t=1200826947">

Electronic keyboardist Joan (neé John) Curran's recent album of christian ambience - The Path of Joy. She's come a long way from scoring slashers "Die You C*nts" and "Horror Rape Prison II"
