Someone needs to write a flashback story explaining why Rico's hair goes from Christopher Walken to George Clooney between that framed photograph and his arrival on Titan. The expanded version of The Return of Rico Pat Mills wrote around the time of the Stallone film wasn't much less substantial.

electricity + water = Hydrogen + oxygen.

Carbon dioxide + plants + water = bigger plants + oxygen.

Aye, I know, and that's fine in theory and under Earth conditions, but they're planning on extracting and distilling what little water will be available to them from (as far as I'm aware) entirely theoretical deposits deep under the martian soil, and relying on the caprices of solar power for their electricity supply.

I'm not sure if even that crazy Russian experiment where volunteers spent two years breathing recycled air and drinking recycled water was so stringent that they completely sealed in and cut off their lab rats' supplies of oxygen and access to back-up power supplies - or that they demonstrated an ability to generate new supplies of oxygen under those conditions. The International Space Station relies on regular deliveries of O2 from Mama Earth and both the onboard oxygen generation system and the power go on the blink all the time, necessitating rescue/repair missions which wouldn't be an option on Mars.

On page five of the Dredd story The Satanist (Brothers of the blood TPB) - the page where Dredd looks through Vienna's personal possessions and mementos - there's a framed photograph of Rico sans helmet. The image isn't much more than a thumbnail, but the family's trademark shock of black hair is being worn in the bedhead fashion of a young Charlie Sheen. That would explain why the helmet sometimes sits a little high on Dredd's head.

Worryingly, that article explains how the suicidal settlers of Mars will eat, capture solar energy, and extract/recycle water; but not how they plan on breathing, on a planet whose atmosphere is mostly composed of carbon dioxide. I'll admit to sometimes setting out on long car journeys and winging it as far as where fuel and food stops are going to be found, but I'm always reasonably certain where my oxygen's going to be coming from.

GET YOUR ASS TO MARS (one way only)

I hear a bald man was found drawing magic war-sigils on the library door, and sticking pins in a curly-haired voodoo doll.  Off his tits on drugs.

I heard the bald man was chased off by a wee fella from the midlands with a beard like a rhododendron bush, who attacked him with a sock puppet snake.

Chris Morris is very influential. Do you think someone in Boston rented Four Lions recently?

If I was the military dictator of a Far-Eastern nation, all my female soldiers would wear kitten heels. Although, if - like Kim Jong-un - I was a four foot tall military dictator of a Far-Eastern nation, I might make sure I always stood at the top of a flight of stairs when inspecting the troops.

A rare thing in Ireland:  A victory of human rights over the joyless old men of the Vatican.

We're getting there.

You can see why the Catholic church would be against gay marriage. Given their position on sex outside wedlock, they'd be forced to marry every altar boy they fucked.

I did say "arguably".

The only correct response to that quote is Lisa; I'd like to buy your hat. Apparently, all this war talk is just part of the festivities marking the anniversary of the birth of Kim King-Un's Grandad - the founder of the DPRK, who's been dead for decades - so presumably the missile are intended to serve as figurative candles on the birthday cake. How could you think about bombing these cuties?

Mark Millar's appearing at Glasgow's Mitchell Library tonight (Monday 15th of April) as part of the Aye Right book festival. According to this laudatory and uncritical article in today's Daily Record, Millar relies on hearing the unvarnished opinions of the ordinary down-home folks (among whom he feels most at home) regarding his work, rather than those phoney, gladhanding Hollywood fat cats (p-too!). If you can make it along, be sure to tell him exactly what we all thought of his Robohunter stories - he hates folk who mince their words.

The festival, which runs until Saturday, is held at the Mitchell Library. For more information, call 0141 287 2999 or email ayewrite@glasgowlife.org.uk

Duke Dumont's still number one, much to the relief of the new Director General of the BBC. First one to suggest a First Cut Is the Deepest/God Save The Queen chart placing reversal to spare the blushes of the suits wears a tinfoil hat.

Also using words like "retarded" as pejorative is a pretty faggy thing to do.

And using "faggy" is completely fine is it?

Maybe it's because I'm also from Norn Iron, but this is obviously sarcastic to me..!

Not sure you need to have grown up on the Falls Road to spot that suspicious object underneath your vehicle, Rich. Everyone should look out the window and talk about something else to cover the blushes of two fine forumites; the Fox's for walking into that one, and the Bear's for advancing the since I've been wearing this hat it hasn't rained, therefore my hat prevents it raining line of reasoning.
