Inhale's singular Garage-Rock riff is the one that sounds a little ill-fitting and the tacked-on, uninspired noise-scape don't do much for these bleeding ears, probably the weakest track.

You say Garage, I say Stoner. Given the Leitmotif - and, presumably, its intended purpose in the film- it's not surprising that Inhale is a change of pace and a digression from the brutal aesceticism of the rest of the album.

Reminds me of Can, Neu and the best of Krautrock.

I've been listening to DROKK a lot. It's brilliant and making me want to see the new film even more.
Paten Locke's Super Ramen Rocketship and Willie Evans Jr.'s Introducin' ... (are) recommended for fans of hip hop who, like me, hate the bling-bling gangsta bullshit often associated with the genre.

Speaking of Drokk have you heard any of Geoff Barrows 'Quakers' project? Featuring Guilty Simpson, Jonwayne and Deed amongst 30 odd other collective members- good from what Ive heard so far.
Back on rinse for me is The Last Huzzah remix by Mr Muthaf**kin eXquire ft Das Racist, Despot, Danny Brown and EL-P, if you like your geeks thugged out.

Thanks for the recommendations. Willie Evans Jr's new to me, but hearing lyrics that take anything other than getting bitches, getting fucked up and getting ahead in The Game as their theme reminds me of the invention of De la Soul and Fu Shnickens' sense of fun. Unsurprisingly, I found Introducin' a great place to start.

Fans of musical innovation and lyrical sophistication will be interested to know that Nas is back, and apparently he's The Don.

Loving Drokk! It's a fantastic listen and understanding that it started out as a score for the new movie lends it even more resonance.
As already mentioned there's a definite Carpenter vibe-some of it could of been lifted from the Assault On Precinct 13 score and there's a few nods to Brad Fiedel's Terminator stuff. Great stuff!

Can't agree enough about the quality of DROKK. Those reference points are fair enough- and I enjoy the interplay between a prowling electronic bass line and a whip-like syndrum as much as the next man- but there's even more going on than an analogue synth and betamax video nostalgia fest.

Inhale reminds me of The Dust Brothers' disorientating score for Fight Club, and combines the hypnotic, narcotic rhythm of the best Stoner Rock and Dub with the aural soundscapes of The Orb or Eno. When the psilocybin hits the fan, the dominant riff staggers into the worst trip this side of White Rabbit ... then gets up and carries right on as before. I would have loved to see Urban ripped off his tits
on Slo-Mo
, trying to Carry on Judging, with this in the background.

Even the titles are a class apart; Clone Gunman and Puerto Luminae demonstrate that Barrow's fan credentials are of the highest order, and if no-one takes Miami Lawgiver as the starting point for a Dredd story they must be spoiled for ideas.

Highly Recommended.

New poster in forum this morning, Batman bomb in avatar picture.  Hrrrm.

If you follow the links in Rorschach's signature, you'll find he has more hair and a better sense of humour than the former forum member you're thinking of, Tordelback.

Madchen Amick met her end at the hands of the guy from The Spanish Prisoner in the last series of Damages. I don't know what you've got under your bed. Maybe it's a job lot of old Teri Hatchers.

(S)uperhero comics (are) ... a never ending production line, endlessly churning out the same storylines, relying on the same over-used tropes and tired cliches ... (T)he vast majority of superhero comics are the medium's equivelant of Eastenders and Coronation Street. Lazy, inconsequential, comforting fluff, cynically pumped out to their beleaguered readership ... I'm just so very bored of the whole genre ... that I'm never going to be pulled back in.

Like Lee, I don't really have a clue what I'm talking about, but I agree with him anyway (i). Other than when I was very small, the only tights 'n' capes titles I've read are occasional runs or collections by writers I'm interested in.

The thing I find most odd (not really a 'peeve', per se) about US comic fandom is the unswerving loyalty of some fans to a character (or publisher), irrespective of the quality of the comic(s) or the creative team onboard. What is it that possesses fans to fork out, year after year, for books that they often don't really enjoy, and then moan all over the internet about them?

Quote from: bluemeanie on 10 May, 2012, 03:58:57 PM
I dont mind (Marvel & DC) redoing the origins every now and again ... they pitch books at people who have seen the films ... and want to give the books a try ... You might deride them for doing it but are you gonna do the same when Rebellion try their best to hook in new Dredd fans based on the film? They'd be fools not to.

I wouldn't mind at all if Rebellion (or IDW) wanted to do a seperate Year One version of Dredd to capitalise on the film. I'd certainly try such a title; but if it wasn't to my liking, I'd accept it wasn't for me and quietly drop it. I bought two issues of Lawman of the Future.

(i) Lee's soap analogy is a good one; but given their mission to tap the pocket money of successive generations of hormonal teens, surely Marvel/DC are aping the tropes of Gossip Girl and Jersey Shore these days? Since The Pit, the Dredd strip's shown some evidence of soapy suds; but that's balanced by strains of Wire-style police procedural and the psychological depth of the Sopranos, more in keeping with the age profile of its readership.

She'll be looking for work soon. Why not employ her as your amanuensis, then marry her on a whim because she's always got a handypack of Kleenex at the ready. Never let her serenade you in French.

Insane's the word, Pete. Zoom in on that image as far as you can go, and the inking technique's still perfect.

http://2000adcovers.blogspot.co.uk/

I'm certain he devoted far more time, effort and love to that hand drawn b/w art than his rate of pay merited. Cherish this man and the fact he's still pitching story ideas to Tharg for projects that genuinely excite him (see Pete's blog), rather than drawing Spiderman covers or collecting a fat paycheck from Hollywood for projects that never get off the ground.

Thanks for the link to Weston's own blog too. The post about him and his boy meeting Stan Lee was great; I'm not sure which of them was more excited.

More like Joe Matt getting a handjob from a disgusting hooker in a porno theater.

In that scenario, I'd be the hooker and Joe Matt would be Dave Cameron.
