The Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell - amazing retro hard rocky band who will be at the mighty DESERTFEST in London and are supporting Orange Goblin on their tour soon :D

Nuts - going to see Orange Goblin in the Welsh Club in Cardiff week after next, but will probably arrive too late to see the support.  Damn shame!!

I saw The Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell at the Orange Goblin gig last night, and they were brilliant!!  Great sound for a 3 piece.

On a related note, I am totally deaf in one ear.

Another of my colleagues watched it last night.  Her verdict was 'It made me feel sick.'

Result!

My colleagues keep emailing me Dredd memes.  I thought I'd post them here.  Apologies if there's already a thread for this.

Please also post any you have come across!

Men generally aren't complicated creatures and I think a lot of women can't believe that. Even the title of this thread indicates maybe you're overthinking all this. Look at all the answers. We want sex. Mostly. Cadbury Dairy Milk's not bad either. And tickets to a Slayer show. But sex, mostly.

Yeah, the number of times I've said X, and the girlfriend/partner interprets that as X+Y squared to the power of 5, is unreal.  You say a simple thing with simple contexts, with no undercurrents or hidden meanings, and the next thing you know you're being accused of all kinds of things!

Example:
'I really enjoyed playing with my nephew today.  He's cute, isn't he?  Our girls have really taken to him.'
Reaction:
*breaking down in tears* 'You always wanted a boy didn't you?  You hate me for not giving you a boy.  You hate our daughters.  You're really unhappy with us aren't you?!?'

I mean, WTF!!!

Re my steak bake comment, that was not a euphemism.  After sex I like a short nap, then something to eat.  Steak bakes are lovely meaty flaky treats, and if a lady was to present one to me after orgasm/naptime, I would be delighted.

Yeah, sorry, the best present is definitely sex.  You could always gift wrap yourself in a Judge Anderson uniform first, although costume choices do vary a little from bloke to bloke.  That said, I bet none of my mates would turn down a shag from their tight-leather clad loved one.

Maybe keep a steak bake to one side for later?

Jeez, there's no discussion with folk like that. Don't bother, I say!  On the plus side, the colleague who said 'meh' yesterday? He bought case files 5 today. :D

Just wondering Colin, have you read the prequel to Bone, Rose by any chance? If not you should check it out. Jeff Smith isn't on art duties (although he writes), but Charles Vess' artwork is still a joy to behold. Its quite a short read (and in colour unlike Bone)but still a nice prequel story methinks.

No I've not but I've got that and a copy of 'Tall tales' on my shopping list.

I had such a crush on Thorn.  Damn, she was hot, but it feels a bit weird falling for a comic character...?

Two new reviews, one from a work colleague, one from my dad.
Colleague:  Meh
Dad: Boring

You can't win 'em all I guess, but at least they bought the DVD!   :D

QuoteThe thing that's most frustrating for me is that the general public are only now realising how good of a film Dredd is. Such a damn shame.

Yep. I imagine many of us have had conversations like this:

"Woah, Dredd is amazing!"

"Yeah. Shame it flopped and they probably won't do another one".

"Yeah, that's so annoying!".

"Yeah, so did you go and see it at the cinema?"

"Um... No...".

Yep..

And also that feeling of people telling me Dredd was awesome.. I. FUCKING. TOLD. YOU. MONTHS. AGO!!!!!

I am getting exactly the same.  It's insane.

'Oh yeah, Dave, I saw Dredd the other day.'
'Did you like it?'
'Yeah, loved it. I wish I'd seen it in 3D now.'
*sound of me banging my head on my desk*

Oh my god - one of my favourite, and rarest, live blues albums has just turned up on ITUNES!!!! Do you know how hard it is to get this on CD and vinyl?!?

I first came across this album 23 years ago.  I bought it on vinyl at a record fair, on a whim.  It was one of my best 'random record buys' ever!!

I taped it, then lent the vinyl to a french guyI knew who buggered off back to France with it.  For years I had to make do with the tapes.  When the internet came along the first thing I did was search online to find a CD version of it.  Finally found one, which I had to import from America.  I ripped it, and it's been on my iPod ever since.  A month doesn't go by without me sticking it on at least once.

If you like blues, jazz or boogie woogie get this RIGHT NOW! You won't regret it - it's in my top five live albums of all time.
