Film & TV / Re: Prometheus

Well this was a load of po-faced shite.  Saw it tonight at the cinema.  The 3D was really good - quite impressive actually. Everything else was just a turgid mess though.

The characters - so bland!  In both Alien and Aliens each character was totally individual, each very distinctive, and there was a real rapport between them.  In Prometheus it seemed to be painting by numbers. No-one was particularly engaging, the group didn't gel, and as such I couldn't have given two figs about their causes, beliefs or even their lives.

Still, we went to a sushi restaurant afterwards and I stuffed my face, so the evening wasn't a complete write-off.  The raw fish had more character.

I just read this weeks, and I feel just, well, upset... Like I've suffered a loss.  It's weird.  I've been reading Dredd since I was eight, and I'm pushing 40 now.  The world I've been so heavily involved in is coming apart in front of my eyes.  I feel bereft.

Is anyone else getting this feeling? Or am I spiralling into some bizarre comic induced depression?!?

No-one has posted anything in this thread for four hours, so...

I like the van!
I like the costume!
I like what Wagner said!
I like the cityscape!
I like what little I know of the plot!
I like the poster!
I like how everyone is crapping themselves with tense excitement while we wait for something, ANYTHING, to happen!

Blindly, this thread is eating its own tail!

But yeah, even a 30 second trailer would do me right now!

That pic of Dredd booting the door in somehow reminds me of him and Hershey pulling some 59c's in the Graveyard Shift, dunno why.

With the height of the soles on the platform boots Stallone wore, they could have accomodated a shoal of salmon.

Brilliant!

You get those? Awesome!

Huggy Bear wore them in 'I'm Gonna Git You Sucka!'. Funniest part of the film.

Talking of Alan Moore- I read 'Neonomicon' last night. Blimey.

Anyway- Alan Moore and Neonomicon, which as I say, I read last night. I'm not one to venerate the beardie one beyond a few 'core' texts. V For Vendetta, Halo, his early Swamp Things and From Hell aside, there are numerous writers I prefer. But, christ. Neonomicon. I can't remember the last time I read a comic, then fell asleep and had vivid dreams about the characters and powerful nightmares about the situations and that comic's world. Last night I was swimming underwater in the ocean, and looking down, I could see the Great Old Ones and their kin swarming below me. There were... things, in the water with me. even when the dream changed, and I was back on dry land, they were there. Just at the edge of my vision. people looked... fishy. And they spoke... oddly. Their language was as nonsense. But I understood it- which terrified me.

Wow, you've sold me!  I've just bought a shitload of Dredd case files, but I guess I'd better add this to my Amazon basket too!

I'm currently working my way through the Orange Goblin back catalogue. I think they may be my new musical obsession!  It's so great to hear a British stoner/prog metal band for a change!

Well, I really like that pic!  It's an excellent juxtaposition, and really shows off the new outfit.  I guess unhinged Dredd fans do occasionally have their uses...

RealD 3D cinema technology uses circularly polarized light to produce stereoscopic image projection. The advantage of circular polarization over linear polarization is that viewers are able to tilt their head and look about the theater naturally without seeing double or darkened images. However, as with other systems, any significant head tilt will result in incorrect parallax and prevent the brain from correctly fusing the stereoscopic images.

Nothing so exciting I'm afraid mate!  That pic was taken on the mean pedways of Cardiff City Centre.  It was some promotional thing they were doing when the 1995 film came out.  No-one famous was dressed as Dredd unfortunately.  I thought it was the most exciting thing ever though

...and then you saw the actual film :'(...

Yeah, but even the film can't take away that awesome moment I had with Dredd!   :D
