Frankly, plenty of the other spines in my collection don't match up anyway – number 5's (Necropolis) is very obviously misaligned.

I've put 30* of mine in a -sort of- chronological order (For example starting with Robot wars, Cursed earth, Day the law died, Judge Death, Judge Child, Apocalypse war, ending with DoC bks 1-3 and Blood of emeralds). Love to see the faces of friends who's existence hangs on things being in an absolute order muhaha

*need the shelf space.

Bit different, but I quite liked it overall. Especially Dredd, Death and DeMarco.

I think Beeby writes a good fun Dredd. "Excessive affection. Outbreaks of hugging." :D

Recently finished reading through all of them (sans Dead end and War on the streets), and all and all I'm quite pleased with the collection. Approximately 35 of the books being "not my favorite", 20 "Good!" and 35 "Fantastic/classic".

The last book I read (as of now) was Lawless. For some reason I managed to miss it in the MEG. Really liked it. Especially the art. While I'm not too sold on the "who is she really?" mystery, luckily it never felt like it became much of a focus of the story. I could safely focus on the bang bang, marshal Lawson stuff.

As for the collection as whole. I'm most pleased how the extension of Tour of duty and Day of chaos (with aftermath) turned out, especially in conjunction with Blood of the emeralds. Also really liked collections like Crazy town and Mad city. They're as funny as sad. Funny the extremes cits will go to escape the boredom, and said boredom being sad when you realize how hopeless alot of it is for people in mc1. I think collections like Fast food also managed to channel this. It's through hilarious tragedies like these MC1 comes to life for me :)

My neighbour upstairs had 5 dogs. Some nights it sounded like The exorcist "The dog edition" up from her flat. Like if the dogs were locked into a cupboard or something. Wasn't long till she moved out, to a mental institution.

Could'v been from the same episode ;)

Milk wars: Fun -so called un-event. DC's big 3 gets infected with (over)selling milk and characters from the young animal books battles the big company Retconn in order to fix things. Fun and weird little book. Has everything from Cave Carson puking up swamp thing, a fold out page to showcase Flex Mentallo's muscle powers to Doom patrol's Rita Farr being rescued back into continuity. I really love how colourful it is.

Batman in the fifties: A showcase of golden age Batman. Everything from the bat family to villains. Great book to read before Morrison's batgod run or Miller's DK. Explains a lot, with very informative info pages between issues, and is a bunch of fun to read overall.

Hellboy collected short stories vol. 1: First of two volumes with the collected (in a chronological order) Hellboy shorts penned by Mike Magnolia. Starts of brilliantly with Pancakes, and has everything from Hellboy wrestling frankenstein -during the drunk in mexico period) to The corpse. Lovely lovely collection! Can't wait for the rest of the hellboy omnibus books (6 in total)! :)

Off Topic / Stand out neighbours?

Ever had neighbours which you think were a bit stand out?

The place were I grew up was quite sensible. One neighbour had a flock of sheep on his front yard. Another one was a drunk who's son was a neo nazi, and one time he was so drunk he asked me if I could carry him 2km on my back since I looked quite strong. Also had a neighbour with a prosthetic arm. I found out 10 years later after he died that that he apparently left me 10 quid on a bank account.

Things went south after I moved north.

While studying I lived at my sisters place for a summer, doing an internship at a company. Was left alone the whole summer, with her neighbours, the landlords. Two identical sisters. Old. Same clothes, same everything. Always drunk. Had tendency to try opening the wrong door at times during evenings (the door to my apartment). One time I found that they'd gotten in and done the dishes for me. When asking them about it they looked unknowning, and later they -after having a drink- they called my mum and cried, scared that they'd scared me or something.

Later on, moving even further north, I lived in an apartment house. One of my neighbours lived in the cellar. Down which he had three rooms, behind three doors in said cellar (Which we all shared). One with a bed and a TV (from what I could spot through a window), another one a bathtub, last one a toilet. Since he regarded the cellar of the house as his he went about "cleaning" it. He used his bucket for food left overs (with them left in there) with a fabric softener when scrubbing the floor. Floor went sticky and smelt pretty awful (think puke). Also had a tendency to drop orange pulp in the washers rubber seal (I have no idea why) as well as paper in the machine itself. And when going out he always put on an orange ski racing helmet. I later heard that he liked to doing stretching on the side of a football pitch when younger girls "happened" to be playing...
My neighbour upstairs had 5 dogs. Some nights it sounded like The exorcist "The dog edition" up from her flat. Like if the dogs were locked into a cupboard or something. Wasn't long till she moved out, to a mental institution.
I lived wall to wall to two older people. They smoked so much that the whole stairwell smelled awful. Borrowing a hammer from them one time made my clothes reek of cigarettes so much I almost felt sick. The man in the house had played guitar in a travelling dance orchestra and when working at a factory he had -in secret- molded a whole boat in plastic during a weekend.

Now days I live a bit more calmly. Only stand out is a man pushing 90 who's openly racist, yells at people from his balcony for using the nearby recycling center, says he lives in a small flat in order to not have to take care of his grand children too often and that he's seen Joséphine Baker sing live wearing her banana skirt thing on some company happening years ago.

As for myself. People tend to think my apartment is empty since I never make any noise.

How about you? Had any interesting neighbours? :)

Also. I think it's for the best if the thread is kept free from any information akin to city names, adresses and such. Just in case.

The presentation - and e3 in general - has been a huge let down for me regarding Switch news.

I was confident that, now the Switch has a solid install base, we'd see a huge surge of new games, ports and indie titles being announced, but I guess not?

In fact the only new thing to catch my interest so far has been the new Trials game. And that's really about it.

Sorely disappointing.

On a whole, there's been a couple of switch game announcements. I just got word that Grim Fandango is coming, as well as some really really nice releases from limited run games (THUMPER!).

Nintendo has said that their presentation was meant to represent things which will be released in the nearest future, focusing on the new Smash bros.

They could (and most likely will) do another nintendo direct soon with bigger things to show.

But yeah. E3 hasn't been that hot this year. Not for me at least. But got some nice things to look forward to. Smash bros, DAEMON X MACHINA, Sekiro and Death Stranding.

Their E3 showing wasn't their best ever, but it had some nice trailers. I especially like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxPlBdk4HXY

Can't stop looking at it. Mechs and metal. Love it!

Saw You were never really here yesterday. Really really liked it. Basically about a hired guy who often goes about his business with a hammer in hand (for which there is a reason) and having an internal crisis. A bit like Mad Max in Fury Road but less of a rabid doggy who's mumbling. It's one of those ugly movies which manages to feel beautiful. Which doesn't need to show violence to feel violent.

I think it's director Lynne Ramsay is a name to look for in the upcoming years. Wouldn't mind it if  took on Wagner and Ranson's Button man.

Titan is easy to recommend. Also Dark Justice and The fall of Deadworld.

It's worth bearing in mind that the latter two will be in the third and final volume of Dredd in the 2000ad collection in about a year's time.

Good that you mention it. I forgot.

...hmmm its probably got something to do with the modern state of America ... or fiction and stories... but I've got more work to do with that...

I felt alot of it tied into trauma. For example a-bomb episode. The bomb sort of being "the big one" in regards of that. Another one being Laura's. Cooper not being able to save her from the pain felt very "real" I think.

Twin Peaks continues to be amongst the very best fiction in any media out there. Superb.

It really is.

So now we're nearing the end of the collection, anyone planning a full re-read of every volume in book order? I'm trying to do a book a day, just finish Vol 5 Necropolis. Reading the series like this is kinda strange as the first 5 volumes bounce around from era to era.

Each individual volume works very well on its own but going from the referendum storyline,  jumping forward to the Total War bombings, then back to the Dead Man, post Necropolis and then onto Necropolis is a quite a ride.

Been rereading them for a while. On 31 Oz now. As you say, there's a fair bit of jumping around. Don't mind it, since I think some of the volumes work really well as such (even if at the expense of other volume). But I'm pretty sure after reading all them, I'll pick out the ones I like the most and rearrange the order of them into more of a read order of sorts. For me shelf space > cool looking spine image  :)

Also, any recommendations for the Rebellion Dredd books to pick up that covers anything major TMC missed? Might grab Titan for the Enceladus chapters.

Titan is easy to recommend. Also Dark Justice and The fall of Deadworld.

Tropical Freeze is insanely hard, but really good.

If you like a hard game. Played Mega Man 9? It's on the mega man collection 2.

Atlas Shrugged Trilogy. I had no idea this even existed. I found it very interesting because of my love for the book but I reckon most people will hate it. Still, it's a decent enough adaptation and a passable critique of government imposed collectivism. Like Ayn Rand's novel it doesn't get everything right by any means but has a solid core and raises some important questions. I reckon I'll be watching this trilogy again, more than once, just as I'll be reading the book again as soon as I can get my grubbies on another copy.

If I come across them, I'll watch them out of morbid curiousity. Not a fan of the book, but I'm fascinated by it. The impact it's said to have had on people. I'm also quite fascinated by Ayn. But I'll leave it at that.

I saw Frankheimer's Seconds from 1966 today. Chilling to say the least. About a man who gets the chance to begin anew. Love the feverish camera work. The film evoked the feeling when you'v done a mistake which you'll regret and feeling of having f*cked it up sets in and the desperation that follows it... Scary stuff. Definitely gonna watch it again soon.
