Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?
25 May, 2018, 08:16:01 PM
Just got through League of extraordinary gentlemen Vol 1-3, Black Dossier and the Nemo trilogy in time for the last and 4th volume starting next month.

Love Vol 1-2 and Black Dossier, and while I don't consider 3 and the Nemo books as good as those they still hold up really well. Some really funny and clever stories. Especially when having looked up a couple of books and movies which are referenced (something I think Vol 1-2 did the best, since they requires less knowledge of certain stories, like for example vol 3:s riff on
Harry Potter
.

One thing I noticed this time reading it is the amount of sleazy stuff. Wasn't just in the later volumes, but the first ones as well. Got me thinking that perhaps a bit less of it could'v made some of it more effectual. Not sure what the point is when even a pair of clouds are shaped as a pair of tits. Not the most titillating thing.

Hope vol 4 goes out going all in. Really excited getting to read the first issue next month :)

The floppie with Bloc judge. Brilliant. Probably one of my absolute fav. Dredd stories. Love how packed each page is. Hard to put down :)

They should release it as an over sized hard cover. Would buy it in instance.

As with the war on the streets volume, I dont remember/recognize all of it, but the eps I do —Damn if I dont look forward to Crazy town :D

For the collection as whole. Only stories -for me- missing is the dave the orangutang-ep, bloc judge and dark justice + last of Maybe. Really happy with it :)

War on the streets will collect the following:
Block War

The Perp Runners
The Umpty Baggers
The Blitz Agencies
The Psycos
The Numbers Racket
The Stookie Glanders
Mob Wars
The Executioner
The Graveyard Shift
Rumble in the Jungle
The Wreckers
West Side Rumble
A Day at the Block Wars
I dont recognise all of them. But sounds promising! Love Graveyard shift.

Wonder if a potential second volume will be as cumbersome. Fitting Dominion p. 1 together with fall of Deadworld book 2. As you say Indigo, would'v made much more sense to have two separate volumes.

With some luck the current Fall of deadworld story ties up some loose ends, and with Dark justice a year away, perhaps they'll make it a deadworld volume instead. Book 1 plus the stories up to date. Put Dark Justice out on a later date with a extension with it and both parts of Dominion (assuming it'll be a two parter).

See what you mean. Nor Fall of Deadworld followed by Dark Justice.

I think the Dreams of Deadworld episodes would'v worked well with Dark Justice and Dominion. Like a send off.

Dark Justice including Fall of Deadworld and not the Dark Justice sequel is an odd and frankly somewhat irritating decision.

Or rest of the PJ stuff. Night at Sylvia P., Serial Serial and Lady Killer.

From the fb page. Dark justice is issue 53, includes Dark justice and Fall of Deadworld.

I'd love to have seen the Cullen Hershey collected & it's really annoying that return of the king & Kenny Who are in the Ultimate Collection. Overall it's been a great series.

Least the wait wasnt that long. Hope Dark justice follows suit. Really curious about that one.

I really love Trifecta and Every empire falls, but there's been a couple of "group trying to take the city from the judges" stories which I wish could'v had a bit more to go on than the usual 2-3 eps and then getting shut down by the judges.

Some threat which is given some time and grows into something the judges then pervert. Like they did with the democracy movement. Doesn't even need to be a direct threat.

I felt they missed a trick by ending "Every Empire" so neatly- having MC1 uncover teh invasion by stealth early enough t stop it, but not having the power to retaliate would ahve been a much more powerful ending, leaving Texas City as a looming threat on the doorstep

While I enjoyed it's action movie rout (
teleporting a baddie alá KABOOM
), that would'v been really cool. Would follow the tune of DoC and Dark Justice in a "good" way  :)

Also adding to the talk Barb and Joe has
about the MC1 cits probably being too starved to ignite anything.
.

When to think of it.
Feeding MC1 cits. What if that had consequences
for tex cits? Could'v also been a grim and interesting thing to hint at.
Games / Re: Last game played...

Bioshock Infinite. Accidently rushed through this one last time playing it. Thought of it mostly like a good fast paced shooter where you follow a pointer through a very complicated story...

Took my time this time around. Got so much more out of it. There's so much detail to everything. Alot of "texture" so to say, a lived quality. And while the world (a floating city in the sky) is quite awful on many accounts, there's a sadness to it when things begin to burn. Has some big aha moments, and I think the ending (which is a big one) begs the for another go.

Only thing which I wasn't too fond of is the level of violence. While the game doesn't try to criticize (which alot of violent games has a tendency to) I think the game is a bit too much at times. Violence really suits the game, but I think it could'v done with a bit less in order to make some of it's moments it to stand out more.

Here's a trailer if someone's interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIY3tOjHhxY

While a lot of the big games are very expensive, I've noticed loads of downloadables that seem very cheap. I wonder if they are ports from the other Nintendo handhelds as there seem to be a lot of blocky graphics and sideways scrollers. Then again, with its handheld mode the switch does lend itself to that type of game.

There are some absolutely incredible games on the e-shop!

To mention a few

Thumper. A rhythm feverish horror racing game like no other.

Steamworld dig 2. Dig dug puzzler cave crawler.

Darkest dungeon. Turned based dungeon crawler with a "nice" Lovecraftian touch.

Sonic Mania. Equal parts a best of and a remix of classic 2D Sonic.

Also got a brief letter of rejection. Didn't mind. Learned lots in writing the one I sent in, and the rejection itself only got me more inspired in a "wouldn't it be fun to change this, move this..." sort of way :)

Great suggestion asking smaller publications for critique. Thank you :)

I've heard some odd things about Korg Gadget on Switch, not least its inability to export. But it is an astonishing product on iOS, and so I imagine the Switch version is at the very least a ton of fun. (Also, despite Eurogamer's rather odd review, it's a full-on DAW, not some half-arsed thing for whacking together a loop and then running into a brick wall when you want to do something more.)

Haven't read any reviews, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. Love showing it to people. People seem to really dig it as well. Feels like an actual instrument. As much people like watch me play around in it, hoping to try the "coop mode" as well someday.

Will try recording a song or two today at a friends house. Use it as a drum machine.
