Film & TV / Re: Superman: Man Of Steel (2013)

Doesn't look anywhere near as evil as Christopher Reeve does in the Superman 3 bar scene (guy broke the mirror with peanuts). One of the greatest scenes in the history of film. Ever.

I can't see this movie happening, and for good reason.

Costner has been brilliant in this, and it's always a bonus to see Powers Boothe on the screen. The show was aired as 3 2hr episodes in the US, so I think we have 3 episodes remaining if it's still being cut the way it is over here. Three episodes and a whole lot of manhunters entering the mountains.
I looked up the feud online- it had family members competing on TV shows in the 1970s. Talk about new ways to settle differences.

Has anybody else here been watching the fine show HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS which channel5 is showing on a Thursday night? Two great episodes so far in my opinion.

Hearts of Fire is possibly the most hilarious film I've ever seen
Seriously- how has everybody managed to see this film but me?

True Blood:  the 2nd season had me wanting to cut my wrists so i never went further.
First series was ok but then it just went too silly. Thanks to Jessica the vampire, it's simply added to my list of "TV Shows I'll Watch because there's an Attractive Cast Member".

I also liked the smaller scale and bummer ending of Terminator 3 a lot more than the bloated, padded, illogical and over-rated T2, and it made a good chunk of coin, too, as did most of Arnie's flicks that you mention.  He was still bankable, he just wasn't appearing in era-defining projects anymore.
The way I view T2 and T3 is "at least Terminator 3 is willing to accept it's shit." Terminator 2 does have some good action sequences but it is just an unnecessary sequel for me; an exercise is new film technology above all else.
Back on Conan though... Is this really something we need? If he's King it won't make any major changes; what's the story going to be- old King Conan has to come out of retirement from his cushy life on the throne due to an ancient evil? That is probably the line in the synopsis that sold it.

Looks like I'll be seeing it sooner than I thought because my friend who works in a cinema told me Sony has banned all cinema workers from being entitled to free tickets to see Skyfall for 4 weeks (and I can't wait that long!). Stranger yet, Sony banned all cinemas in the country from holding a special "staff only" screening after closing time last night. A digital log would prevent cinemas from trying to have one anyway!

As I said, from issue 4 onwards (once the setup is established), the visuals become cluttered and how the eye is supposed to progress around some pages (the Appleseed homage sequences especially) is unclear without stopping and deciphering what is in the end just messy rather than intricate.  Complex layouts that reward repeated viewings are good when done well - see JH Williams' work in general - but it shouldn't be a chore to tell what's supposed to be going on, that's just sloppy work - there were pages I did not even know what I was looking at in some panels beyond that whatever was going on, it was happening in mud.
I remember "Rub the Blood" Liefeld's Prophet; I remember somebody else from the Image crowd eventually took over the storytelling and it was supposed to have improved the title but I can't remember the guy's name. I think he was largely an illustrator beforehand and he had a brief title named Hell Child or something along those lines.

Thing is even if it turns out to be something of a faultless movie, major studios will never admit you can make a great movie for relatively cheap! Even if they're losing money through low sales etc, their solution will always be putting even more money in the next film!
But still- Skyfall release this week! I'll be seeing it in around 2 weeks cos my friend who works in a cinema will be able to hand me free tickets by that point so I'm going to be avoiding this thread like the plague come the 26th...

Looks fun but I still think it could go either way.
The end reminded me of
Frankenstein
.

Tony in control of Iron Men?

War Machine

New Suit!

Am I the only person here who's disappointed Faverau never got to do an Iron Man trilogy and wondering why they've decided to dress War Machine up as Dark Reign era Norman Osborne? I'm not really looking forward to Iron Man 3 for these reasons and the rumour that Paltrow dons a suit of her own. Yes, people will say it's showing how they're equals in their relationship etc, but I don't particularly rate Paltrow's acting as it is so her having a bigger role isn't going to excite me.

I saw Casino Royale on the pictures and thought Goldeneye was a better re-introduction of sorts to Bond (tho I'll admit in Casino Royale towards the end when a villain has a gun on Vesper and threatens to kill her only for Bond to say "Allow me" nearly did make me cheer). Didn't like Quantum of Solace, got excited on reading Mendes was taking Skyfall because I automatically thought a serious director is surely going to do a serious Bond. I think you have to be careful in asking for humour in Bond in case the producers are paying attention; look at how Moore's run killed the franchise. I'd rather have a nasty Bond who makes one or two quips when he feels the need to (even if they aren't funny, at least the film isn't filled with them) than have constant attempts at jokes making a return. I know Q is being brought back but let's hope he doesn't have too much of an influence. Look at From Russia With Love and what Bond was given by Q branch for that; a suitcase with a hidden knife in the handle and a compartment to hide his ammunition in! Look at what he had in the films that followed!

And is that guy on drums..this guy?

He certainly looks like he could be but I refuse to believe it is on the basis that any person that talented would be a household name.

It's not a bogey it's abit of misplaced McFlurry coming out of my nose. Thank you for your concern.

Here's a tasty Italian with a boss side salad.

and the pudding. The wife got a 'Magnum mix' which was 4 ice lollies still in their wrappers. In comparison my panna cotta was a bit dull.

How to go from looking confused/concerned in a restaurant to full of joy in one easy move!

Off Topic / Re: Dreams
21 October, 2012, 01:16:14 PM
Last night's dream (bizarrely I notice this thread for the first time as I'm still thinking about it); I was cleaning my teeth in the family home I grew up in. When there was enough toothpaste in my mouth, I could see what looked like children's was colouring on a number of my teeth- there was a large rainbow, stars and stuff like that. I ran downstairs to show my Dad but couldn't see any of it so I explained you must have to be cleaning your teeth to see it and had him follow me to the bathroom, where I started cleaning my teeth but couldn't see anything on them. Determined to show him, I got to scrubbing so hard blood started to appear in my mouth until my older sister arrived and said she knew what I was talking about but you only see it at night. I suspected she was just trying to get me to stop until I noticed what looked like a little blue plastic peeling off one of my gums. Convinced I finally had proof, I peeled at this until I had a large and wide sheet of blue plastic in my hands. I took this into my living room and hid it in the wardrobe, which had a padlock on it to keep people from looking in there. I'm not sure if there's a scene missing here or another dream started while the memory of this one was still near, but I was then buying mouthwash for a friend's Christmas present online. I doubt this had any meaning, but the colouring-in on my teeth did look nice.
