Welcome to the board / Re: Bit annoying!

Wow, seems there are more people who detest the IMDB discussion forum(or at least the spammers that plague it) then I thought. Anyone else feel the same way about the Youtube comments section? That brings out the worst in me!

Quote from: atp on 24 September, 2012, 01:33:33 PMAlso animtated shows for an older audience are far more common and accepted now.

Which was the point I was trying to make earlier(albeit not very successfully), thanks!

But it is true: adult oriented cartoons are becoming part of pop culture, it's just most of them are comedic satires like the Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park. Why should a Dredd animated show be aimed at children? Unless greedy producers wan't to cash in on the name I see no reason.

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

I watched Raw Deal with a friend yesterday.

Fun action flick if not a bit soapy but the whole cast is still better then Arnold.

Well scratch going to check out Prometheus in the theatres(if it's still in, I don't know because I'm just not that interested.

I'll just have to hold out till Ridley Scott gets around to doing the Forever War and hope he doesn't fuck that up.

Hey, anything to keep this forum spam-free I geuss. I can't even leave posts in the film discussion yet but I'm not complaining. Rules are rules I geuss and I'm glad that at least some places bother to take measures against these trolls.

But would Alan Moore agree to it? From what I've heard he's not particularly fond of that comic.

Alan Moore doesn't own D.R. & Quinch.

Right, I take it he has the same inexplicable rights problems he has with DC and Watchmen. Oh well.

Hi Cursed Earth Dweller! not too hot out there for you I hope!  :)

He he, don't worry. Consuming cursed earth rats has alterd my internal functions making my body rad-resistant. It's actually quite nice out here.

Agreed and then some! Hell, Ren & Stimpy wasn't far off from the bleakish humor in DR & Quinch. I think an animated series in that kind of style would be awesome.

But would Alan Moore agree to it? From what I've heard he's not particularly fond of that comic.

Yep. Strontium Dog only goes colour with the fifth volume (although I recall the colour stuff didn't fare too badly), and Nemesis is colour as of the third volume.

That's too bad since I won't be getting that one.

Quote from: Lee Bates on 21 September, 2012, 10:24:25 AMAs far as the comments regarding bad repro and all black and white printing, most of these older stories were originally printed in black and white anyway with the occasional colour centre spread. The later, all colour Dredds are re-printed in later Case Files in full colour on glossy paper.

Does that go for the Strontium Dog agency files as well? Because I have seen some color spreads of the old Starlord stuff that looked pretty stunning for it's time.

In fact, does this count for all phonebook reproductions of early 2000ad comic?

Quote from: Paul of the Man Cave on 20 September, 2012, 09:54:21 PMAt age 12 he is a very good reader but of course colour artwork is important at that age for the 'awesome' factor

Geuss the case files are out of the question then since most of the early ones are in black and white and some of the pages suffer from severe spine burial.

Even if they closely resemble human beings to the point where they might as well be?

They don't look particularly human though and it's more in the realm of heightened fantasy.

My point was having people shot shouldn't be an excuse for network excecutives(or whoever is in charge, don't know much on the subject) to wan't to tone down an animated version of a subversively violent comic, especially in todays world.

It shouldn't, but unfortunately it is. Cartoons must make money to justify the risk of making them. A cartoon version of Dredd would be harder to make than RoboHunter or ABC Warriors. Dredd wouldn't be Dredd without his Lawgiver.

Maybe back in the 80's and 90's but cartoon's nowadays have significantly more freedom to get away with stuff.

This is assuming the series would be PG which is hardly necessary when there are plenty of adult channels that would accept such shows. And I doubt even PG cartoon would take away Dredd's Lawgiver, just make it kill less people.

It's hard to get-funding-for/make a cartoon about a law-enforcer who shoots people for a living.

Not really. Dragonball Z featured people getting eviscerated and superpowerd aliens tearing eachothers limbs off(granted they cut a lot of that on the PG channels). I think a Judge Dredd cartoon could be made the same way and still retain it's subversity.

Superpowered aliens/humans and robots can do what they want to each other, they're not normal people shooting each other.

Even if they closely resemble human beings to the point where they might as well be?

General / Crisis: any collected paperbacks?
20 September, 2012, 04:44:56 PM
Apologies if this has already been discussed. I did find a thread about crisis that was already 7 years old and didn't feel inclined to raise it from the dead.

Anyway, anyone happen to know if there are any collections of the short-lived british comic Crisis? Specifically the stories Third World War and New Statesmen?
