It's hard to get-funding-for/make a cartoon about a law-enforcer who shoots people for a living.

Not really. Dragonball Z featured people getting eviscerated and superpowerd aliens tearing eachothers limbs off(granted they cut a lot of that on the PG channels). I think a Judge Dredd cartoon could be made the same way and still retain it's subversity.

Dragonball was made in Japan, an entirely self-contained animation market.  There have been attempts to make Western-funded anime in the past, but they've been horrific abortions so far.

All the same, it was imported and shown to American audiences with most of the violence intact and I don't recall parents ever complaining about it.

We also musn't forget there are many different conversions of the batmobile like that big ass tank with machine guns that shoot rubber bullets in Frank Millers the Dark Knight(the best Batman graphic novel IMO). I believe theres a batcopter as well.

Hey, I'm starting to remember why I like Batman!

Quote from: PsychoGoatee on 16 September, 2012, 10:09:54 PMFor example, saying the Lawmaster makes the Batmobile look like a go kart... c'mon now. The batmobile is incredibly badass.

Actually, I think it depends on which Batmobile you mean: the original classic model or that bulky piece of shit we saw in Batman Begins.

There you have it. If Lemme says 2000ad is awesome then it is so, and no one fucks with Lemme.

1. Isn't afraid to make mutations truly hideous or provide junk 'powers'.

Exactly! SD provides a way more plausible and thought provoking narrative of persecutuon against mutants then X-men. I just have so much more sympathy for a guy with an arm growing out of his head not being allowed to legally work then some dude being called names for freezing objects with his bare hands by people who are basically written to be stupid.

Anyway...

2: Johnny and Wulf alone are far more interesting characters then any of the X-men cast, Wolverine included.

Nice thread, mind if I raise it from the dead?

I will obviously go for Dredd but I will I say I have always had a healthy respect for Batman's reputation among the comic book community given how marketable he is. But Dredd is just more interesting to me because he doesn't hide his actions behind any pretentious moral virtues like every other bloody superhero or costumed vigilante. Also, I think people new to Batman are better off sticking to the graphic novels like the Dark Knight or the Killing Joke.

Still, can't wait to read the Dredd/Batman crossover!

General / Re: Strongly considering getting Case Files...
16 September, 2012, 02:09:00 AM
I myself am a newcomer to Dredd and the case files books and I just started with volume one in earnest and worked my way from there, up to book 6 now. Being new to Dredd at the time I found there was enough material in volumes 1 & 2 to enjoy them but after havng read books 3, 4 & 5 a second time I doubt I'll be paging through them again.

Also, DO NOT skip Strontium Dog Agency files volume one as that is even better then Case files one & two IMO.

Please excuse the double posting.

Quote from: SmallBlueThing on 15 September, 2012, 12:54:55 AMMy favourite of them all- certainly more so than that bloody Anthrax thing, which hangs around the comic's neck like a dead albatross.

And would you still criticize the song even if it actually turned people like myself onto the comic? I mean really! What do you fans expect?

I've never heard the Anthrax song. I'm not bothered.

Oh, well anyway I consider the song proof that there is an american audience, albeit limited, that isn't just limited to the 95 film.

I geuss Tharg doesn't approve of hard rock music.

Bah! 'I Am The Law' is a fantastic heavy metal song, a loving riff-crazed celebration of Dredd by a bunch of genuine fans whose fondness for the strip remains strong to this day. I can think of much worse associations for 2000AD to have.

Indeed, nuts to those guys. I am the Law is a Kick Ass song and should be the theme that represents Dredd. Don't knock the song just because some dumbass can't be bothered to learn what it means.

Quote from: metalmarc on 14 September, 2012, 10:17:53 PMjust via wikipedia.org  (not the one on here i dont have access) i found only by going thru the wiki page
of Judge Death, that thrash band Dark Angel borught out a song called Darkness Descends which is about the dark judges!

I actually have the album, me being a bit of a metalhead myself, and yes that song totally suits the Dark Judges. I think the song is about how they sentanced their own world to death.

PS: Mutants in Mega City One is one of the catchiest toons I have ever heard. Also interesting to note is that the Fink Brothers were a side project of brittish ska band the Madness.
