I draw on anything I can muster for initial sketches and then will end to work to A3 size when pencilling finished pieces.

I concur that Bristol board is lovely to work on, especially if inking using traditional methods as the ink doesn't bleed at all as is the case when using some cartridge papers.

Rule of thumb - whatever rocks your boat.

Thanks Darren, Polygon and Steven!
The bones were laborious.......some are photoshop duplicates but most were done by hand. In fact must have cropped out at least a hundred more when i tweaked the composition. My eyes need a week off!

Only a week!? Good job buddy.

Well Hawkmonger, just read your opening bio and a burning desire is all you need - the rest will follow. Practice, practice, practice and get out there and draw life, draw everything.

Best practice, take your sketchbook, sit somewhere inconspicuous and sketch people, vehicles, buildings etc. Don't worry about getting likenesses etc, this exercise will give you a feel for form, movement etc. Keep your pencil moving. Put in the time and progress will be constant.

That's all. ;)

Found this 'old' piece - bout 3 years old. It was for a project I worked on with several other artists entitled Game of Kings. A fantasy style adventure released weekly through RedBubble based upon the game of chess.

This piece was created for the battle of the Black Kings Knights and the White Queens Rooks. Not perfect but though i'd share as this was the project that renewed my love of fantasy, sci fi illustration.

You can check out all the other work by by myself and other artists here: http://www.redbubble.com/people/gameofkings

Keeps getting better and better, Steven. Your inking is more refined now and I especially like the last panel with the 'white out' rain.

Thanks buddy - although woke up this morning and decided the rain was too linear and solid so have disrupted it a tad and thrown in some lightning in order to add a  sinister edge to the shot.
