I'm also gutted to see no further Red Seas trade....I was one of the few that loved the first two series and the last, would love to have seen the other stories published.

By the way, welcome to the forum!  :)

It's random. I got Judge Anderson PSI files Vol.1, (The Rebellion/ DC version - which is a surprise, I never knew DC published 2000ad stuff before).

Blimey, that's a blast from the past! That's one of the ones I got about six/seven years ago!

Really? That is something! I like the paper quality though, and while I think it's not as complete as the U.K version (for e.g, no Arthur Ranson) it still looks great, I love the character file at the start and the timeline. A nice cover too.

I was going through the back issues of Megs (vol 2 & 3) I bought a while back and one story in particular moved me near to tears; Bury My Knee at Wounded Heart by John Wagner & Pete Doherty. Wow. It left me with a lump in my throat. What a beautiful story. And Doherty's artwork was perfect - especially that opening panel with the old man crouching near his dying wife's bed. If I had to choose my favourite one off Dredd story, this would probably be it.

Magnificent.

My grud - what an awesome cover by Dave Kendall! As soon as I popped into my local newsagent, and I saw that cover on the shelf - my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets! Just the sheer detail in Kendall's work, and that magnificent king of reptiles 'Gorehead' with his mouth gaping, blood dripping, and the '666' on his face - it's a work of terrifying beauty. If you look closely you can almost see the brush strokes. It's quite possibly my favourite cover of the year so far.

Judge Dredd (New Tricks Part 4) was superb, I'm really enjoying Mike Carroll's story telling here - and as I mentioned in my review for the last prog - the underground setting is really exciting. Paul Davidson brings it all alive on page with his excellent artwork. This time round, Dredd, Pax and co are getting closer to the Goblin King. And there's some further character development esp. in the case of Joyce who shows that he has a far tougher shell than we first thought, not to mention his plan to get through the criminal outpost. The characters are well realised and it's been a pleasure reading this story. I'm looking forward to next weeks concluding episode.

Brass Sun (The Diamond Age Part 4) is also coming along nicely. This episode was fraught with one double cross after another, with some unexpected, or rather surprising developments. Ian Edginton sure has a fine talent for penning intriguing scripts, it's a delight seeing the way his characters interact with one another. And I.N.J Culbard's artwork is a pleasure to behold as always.

Flesh (Badlanders Part 4) however, was rather poor. It was quite laughable the way Lara Cro..sorry Vegas Carver got the titanic T.Rex  Gorehead into submission! Such a thing of sheer power and earth shattering ferocity (esp. When you consider that magnificent cover by Dave Kendall) and all it takes is a tickle from Ms. Carver? I found that utterly nonsensical to say the least. Such a shame as James McKay's art is very well done.

Aquila (Where All Roads Lead Part 3) was quite brilliant though! I'm enjoying this particular thrill immensely. This episide felt more than five pages because there's so much stuff happening in it, from the mysterious woman in the blue cloak, to the slave that's following her and the creepy 'Veiled Virgin' that stalks her too. Not forgetting Aquila and his sidekick's meeting with the giant wolf 'Magna Mater'; the mother of Rome so to speak. It's a really interesting and engaging strip with intrigue and dark divinations aplenty - and I love it! Patrick Goddard's artwork is so gorgeous, and Gordon Rennie's script is brilliant. I can't wait to see what we have in store next episode.

Damnation Station (The Tail of the Dragon Part 1) was a little confusing. After the outstanding one off of last episode, we're back on track albeit with a new story. But it was nowhere near exciting as last weeks episode. I feel I'll probably have to read it again to get a better idea of the plot, it's a bit barmy to be honest! But Mark Harrison's artwork still continues to keep me interested . I love the meshing of almost two different styles, it's really eye catching. And I swear the General on page 2 looks an awful lot like Peter O'Toole!

We have a letters page to round things off, a lot of letters from ex-readers returning back to the fold which is nice to see.

All in all, a pretty strong line-up with Judge Dredd, Brass Sun and Aquila my favourite Thrills. Flesh was the weakest, and frankly, needs to pull its prehistoric socks up.

Quote from: Mabs on 11 October, 2013, 06:02:52 PMCan I add that I also have a soft spot for Alien Resurrection, up until the last 20 minutes or so! It's a really fun film with some barmy ideas and directorial flourishes by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Yeah I saw this on the telly not so long ago and I enjoyed it a lot more than I remembered. The Ripley/alien hybrid thing towards the end is, I agree, one of the shittest movie monsters of all time.

But it's got to be Alien at the top!

The thing I love about Alien Resurrection is the arthouse sensibility that Jeunet brings to the film as well as some other ideas such as changing the central computer to 'Father', and the use of someones breath for security clearance! I also love that he brought Dominique Pinon and Ron Perlman on board, both of whom appeared in previous film "City of Lost Children" . Not forgetting Darius Khondji's amazing cinematography, there's almost a sickly, or sepia toned feel to the film. He will be remembered best for his superb work on se7en but here, it is equally great. And that underwater scene with the two xenomorphs is awesome. I remember watching the film in the cinema all those years ago, and everyone was bowled over by that scene!

But that awful alien hybrid as you say, spoils it....

Alien3 is a perfect end to a 'trilogy'.

Can't agree. ALIENS doesn't need Ripley but it's a better film for her inclusion. ALIEN 3, however, really, really doesn't need Ripley to be there and suffers for it.

Eh? The Alien films, esp. the sequels are everything to do with Ripley. You see how she as a character developes, even in 3, where her inclusion is vital as no Ripley means no Alien, as she's the one who brought it onto the planet via the escape pod. I don't think I'd be interested in seeing a bunch of convicts just arseing about in the arse end of space....or then again, I probably do!

I don't usually post here, but that back cover idea of Prof James T Bear is a touch of evil genius. Gave me a chuckle. Actually Tharg did choose the larger shot of gorehead. All the others were quite close in on the head. Trying to cover both business ends of the beast would have been less dramatic, I think. Although, I am now seeing the obvious potential for Shit! the dog type vulgarity.  I'm dead chuffed a lot of people like it. Thankyou. What sort of feathers should Gorehead have? Maybe a kinky ostrich feather number, combined with some strategically placed nipple tassles.

That'd be one hell of a sight!

By the way, very well done on a magnificent cover. It's my favourite one thus far this year. :-)

The killing off of wossisface and the child from the second instalment didn't really bother me a great deal.  I just figured they couldn't get the actors back.  They would have had to recast Newt anyway.  Ripley is all alone in a hostile environment, grieving and terrified.  Her character shines for me in this movie.

Hey man, wossisface has a name and its called Hicks a.k.a Michael Biehn!
