Prog / Re: Prog 1863: Mutant Massacre

I don't have much to say that hasn't been already said. I liked the prog overall, good storylines in place for now.

I did have to go back and re-download some earlier progs to remember who the SJS judge was though.

I did like the Prog 1830 cover if not only for the vintage feel it oozed. It must have looked cool as a physical copy.

For reference that was September of 1997. It is interesting to see ideas back then to be something real now we take for granted. I'd've imagined then there was probably not enough interest, since at best we would have only been able to read these on the PC (which in the 90s wasn't as widespread of course) and I imagine most people would have rather gone with print instead.

What's helped on the digital end are tablets and such which have provided for a more convenient way to read comics digitally, to at least approximate something like reading a print issue. For me it's been very useful seeing as it's difficult to get print issues in the US without ordering them through a third party like diamond. I've even begun to check out other comics digitally.

Prog / Re: Prog 1862

A good start to the year. I just got around to reading this though it's been sitting on my ipad since it dropped back around Tuesday for me.

I'm interested to see where this Dredd arc goes. I always have had a soft spot for the ones that explore what's going on outside of Mega-City One so seeing what's happened to one of their main presences offplanet on the Titan prison would be a good adventure.

The Future Shock was cool, but what was going on at the end there? Did the robot return in another form or was that a stored version of its creator? I know it seems like an irrelevant point but it's been bugging me.

I've still haven't had the chance to look at earlier ABC Warriors so I'm still lost in the middle of this, but somehow this did work standalone for me. Ulysses Sweet, well, I felt bad for the dolphin but it's something I like. I think it'll be one of those that works better in short arcs than in long ones though.

I wonder if we'll get Django levels of violence towards the neo-nazis in Strontium Dog later on

If not, my sums suggest that we'll get TWO Prog 2017s within a few weeks of each other!

Hm, that'll be an interesting situation to be sure if the regular prog numbering is the same and falls close to they yearly prog.

News / Re: December Daily Digital Deal

It seems so, though in that case it really wouldn't be a daily deal. Anytime I click on the banner to see the daily deal, it goes to a blank area that says "Sorry, no results found!"

Prog / Re: Prog 2014
25 December, 2013, 07:25:32 AM
I read this Prog over the course of the week. Here are my thoughts

Dredd: I enjoyed this for the reason that we saw some of Mega City One. Lot of neat little references to events here and there. I liked the float in the parade referencing fans wanting firefly back- even in the next century future, they're still wanting it back. Ended in typical Dredd fashion with how the cash was confiscated after the guy's trouble of trying to bring it back to the church.

Ulysses Sweet: I'm interested by the premise, could make for some good dark humor but it'd be more effective in small doses. Got some chuckles from me, but wasn't my top choice.

Ten Seconders: Being new I never got the full effect of Ten Seconders, it was more like being thrown in during the final act. I think it helped to make the ending less anticlimatic I guess. I'm confused though- is he just returning to a dead Earth, or are there still people down there?

Sinister Dexter: When I first subscribed, the bit of sinister dexter that came out afterwards had a distinctive art style, so seeing the one in the annual put me off for a bit since I identified the characters differently. Beyond that, a good read. I'm warming up to the world even though I've not read it beyond the ones that came up in my subscription.

ABC Warriors: Cool, but I don't know what is going on in their story. Wasn't someone who've been with them since the beginning.

Absalom: I liked what I saw in the free teaser before I subscribed and a few of them that were in the progs afterwards, so it was nice to see them again. I guess we can expect to see them for 2014 for this arc.

Grey Area: Ditto as above, I think it worked well as a stand-alone strip. I wouldn't mind seeing more of this in the future.

Tharg: Our benevolent master knows best... but in all seriousness I wasn't getting some of it. Some chuckles though.

Strontium Dog: The concept of Strontium Dog when I first subscribed (during this current storyline) got me interested enough in tracking S/D case files 2 and 3 which were recommended to me here. I don't have a good feel for the Johnny Alpha character, but it is a contrast to his more upstanding part there. I'm only aware of what happened afterwards from what I can gleam from the Life and Death of Johnny Alpha gn and forum postings here, so I can see Alpha becoming more cynical and hardened from the attempted total extermination of mutants and his own death, combined with the muti-care backdoor genocide. Or maybe the parasite's effects is making him more belligerent even after he purged it. Still, I hope this isn't a way to begin presenting Alpha as some dark mutant mirror/foil of the human supremacists he is facing down. Poor guy's been through enough already.

I will also add that this now makes a full year (well plus a month) since I first subscribed. It's been a good experience so far.

The ending would have been a lot better if I could remember who the last surviving character is. I could have swore she was dumped out of an airlock last week.

Come to think of it, that was also bugging me. I had also thought she was one of those that got flushed out the airlock.

My digital sub appears to have ceased renuing after several months of doing such automatically.....

Have you messaged the app crew? They're pretty prompt, at least in my experience.

As for me, I liked the Dredd story, I hope to see more from Beeby in the future. I too was surprised by Dredd's leniancy, but maybe his age is finally getting to him, or maybe the effects of the Day of Chaos have even made someone like him do a double-take. Sad to see Brass Sun go but it's probably better to give it time to sit and develop before chugging along.

I was never familiar with Flesh or Damnation Station so the stuff there I couldn't understand. I remember when they first introduced the presidential candidates a few progs back and had Smedly Butler III, I thought they were just being ironic by having him the opposite of his namesake. But now he's gone and done it. Damnation Station I felt was a bit anti-climatic but I suppose it was the only way it could end.

I guess we got to see what they have in store for the annual.

I got around to reading the prog today. It was good to me- nothing particularly made me go "WOW!" but it was a fun read. Eagerly waiting for the next one to become available on my tablet.

On the American amazon site they're selling a digital (steam) copy of Rogue Trooper for $1.49. I don't think they're doing it on the British one though you could probably find a way to get the key regardless.

Dredd- I kind of feel bad the doctor is tied up in this mess but it was setting up for that even in the first part by making him dickish. Still, Dredd has a nasty scenario.

I liked that Brass Sun got some more of the background introduced. Still, I can't believe that they're letting that guy tag along after he tried to screw them over. At any rate it seems like they are preparing to wrap up this arc. Damnation Station I'm still not understanding, 3hriller opened with an interesting premise, to me at least.

Interestingly this is probably the only Flesh strip that I could relate to, at least in the first two pages. They were a clever bit of parodying American political figures. Though Smedly Butler III sure fell far from the tree.

Oblivion has the rare bug or crash now but it's playable. You don't have to worry about game-breaking bugs, if they occur it's very rare right now. I've had a few playthroughs since its release and I've had no issues.

Jackstarr suggests mods and I also suggest them- they are great and show off how flexible the game is. Just be sure to install them correctly and be mindful of your computer's resources and the game's limitations. Use a mod manage to keep files straight and make any removals go smoothly. It's possible for crashes to occur on games with mods with lots of features (basically overload the game's engine)- again, not game breaking but it can be an annoyance.

Prog / Re: Prog 1853 - King of the wild frontier!

I liked Dredd, though I've also found that Brass Sun has grown on me since its last stint since I'm much more interested in seeing where it's going. Aquila is great, I liked it when I first subscribed as it was finishing up its last arc.

I'm kind of confused with Damnation station (though the story seems to be coming together now) but the setting is cool, so I've been sticking with it since it came out. I don't really understand anything going on in Flesh though, then again I'm a (relatively) recent subscriber so I'm not aware of previous events in that strip.

Darn, I wish this was around when I first subscribed on the iPad. I have physical copies now, but $13.99 is a fair price on the US end.
