It's also funny to think how cynical many of us were at the time about the Rebellion deal—even though it was clearly the best option. So many assumed "video game people" were swooping in to eat the IP and not give a crap about the publications. We couldn't have been more wrong.

Guilty as charged. I wasn't collecting 2000AD at the time but I do remember hoping that we might get a decent Dredd game out of it.

Those three trades literally dropped through my letterbox this-morning! I have set aside the requisite number of tea bags for a riveting couple of hours this weekend.

Another movie that's been mentioned a time or two here: 2010.

Really excellent! It's one of my go-to feel good movies. Gives up Kubrik's surrealism for more accesible sci-fi and plays all the right notes from the original film. A more than worthy sequel IMO.

[House of Suns]

I happened to have just finished House of Suns myself (just in time for his new book!). I think it's his best work since the Dreyfuss stuff.

I think their relevance is pretty clear..? Do you mean you would have preferred the main characters to have made the connection?

Spoke to some players online and oddly they'd ordered from other places (Simply Games, Games Collection) and had it delivered the same day as me.

Ugh, I knew I should've preordered physical. Very happy to hear from you and other reviewers that the game is solid! Hoping to get some quality time in later tonight.

[Aliens Fireteam Elite]

Aliens Fireteam Elite - I've never really enjoyed Aliens-related games but this one does a good job.  It's a three-player co-op thing and from an action/level-design point of view it's reasonably generic but the aliens themselves move like aliens and feel suitably dangerous.

I'm enjoying it a lot.

How are you playing this when it's not out until tomorrow (24th)..?

Interesting. Are they coming here specifically for the contrasting landscape, or are they going to CGI Dartmoor to look like Gondor?

Perhaps. Feels more like a showrunner making his mark than a feint. If it's the latter, fair enough. Even then, he'll have to play the Jo Martin situation very carefully, given that he's stated multiple times that she is The Doctor. Hand-waving away the first POC to have the role with some timey-wimey piece of half-baked scripting would not be a good thing.

I agree. There's plenty of form from other shows in the last few years to suggest that they have no idea where they're going, but we have a series and three specials to come from this team, and that's a lot of scripts to go into without a plan.

As for the new origins bollocks, that surely needs to be unraveled. Mind you, a smart showrunner could deftly deal with that, if they chose do, positioning it as a lie. Or they could just ignore and never speak of it again—or just reference it in passing. In terms of status quo reset, the one thing that would be a pity to remove would be Jo Martin's Doctor. But then a smart scriptwriter could presumably deal with that too.

We need to entertain the possibility that Chibnall knows *exactly* where this story is going and will himself unravel it in the time remaining.

I'd like to see Diane Morgan (of Philomena Cunk fame) play the next doctor

That is a helluva shout. I know her mostly from Motherland and that tired, no-effs-given personality would work perfectly.

Straczynski has even indicated he'd be interested, that's how deep the vein runs.

Yeah, that's a shame. She's great in the role, and while I generally enjoyed her and Chibnall's run, the whole enterprise felt a little tired. I've had that feeling all the way back to Capaldi, except his Doctor had the necessary standout stories to make up for it.
