Megazine / Re: Meg 350
17 July, 2014, 03:13:03 PM
My first read of the Meg since #25ish I think. Yonks ago anyway!
I'm impressed, great stuff! Really liked all four strips and even read the interrogations. Seems miles away from the early days in tone, but to be honest its been so long I can't really remember.
Well, on this evidence I'll be a regular again!

Yeah, not a bad Prog at all this week.

I liked Dredd, its nice to see a bit of the day-to-day procedure of being a Judge. Rather than constant skull smashing. The art, the juves, the crazy MC1 exterior shots. Feels like a classic *light* JD tale to me.

Sinister Dexter was more fun than last week. And I'm actually interested to see who these Neighbours are...

Brass Sun is losing me, think it'll need a re-read.

I didn't really warm to Aquila last time, but this is a good bloody start.

I too was expecting a twist at the end of the 3hriller, but I'm kinda pleased it ended on a chill instead.

But the serious highlight for me is that teaser for Block Judge! A simple image, but it seems to speak volumes! Can't wait!

Right... off to read my first Meg in many years! Been waiting for #350 as a jumping on point! Wish me luck!

I liked this Prog. Sensitive Klegg was my favourite.
"And now I'm going to bite your arm off!" - he's so sweet!

and he doesn't even do that, its still attached

...because he's Sensitive!

Next issue - #350 - is exactly what you're after.

Awesome! I hoped so, but couldn't find the info.
Thank you.  :)

General / Jumping on point for The Meg?
04 July, 2014, 04:05:40 PM
Hi there.
I haven't read the Megazine for years. I'm sure I saw (either in a Thrill Mail, or Tharg's Nerve Centre) that there was a handy jumping on point coming up, with all new stories etc.
Did I dream it? If not, did I miss it? If not, does anyone know which issue?
Cheers.

Prog / Re: Prog 1888 Brass Sun returns

Nice Prog, and well worth the wait!

I too wasn't overly struck my Sensitive on his last appearance, but I heart him here! Poor misunderstood Kleggy. Want to hug him (carefully, while wearing an exoskeleton!).
Some excellent gags, bloody lovely art and a very retro feel all round. Smashing Dredd :)

Nice to see the return of Brass Sun. Lovely lovely. Though I too hope it isn't going to get all Red Seas on us, as I never warmed to that strip. I am also confused by the hair colour change. What?...

Tharg's 3rillers is a fun action packed start. Like the hi tech poppet idea :) Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

As for Grey Area, I sincerely hope
they're all dead
! Not that I've disliked this series per se, just seems a little weightless for such a huge topic. Though this week was a blessed relief from the soap opera dialogue. Nice last panel though :)

Just one thing to say:
"All Hail Christhulhu!!!"
Ok... more to say - I loved this prog as I have loved all recent progs.
Dredd, finishes on an anticlimax for me, but it works well - old Joe is good at solving complex problems with simple bullet shaped solutions :)
Time Twisters was amusing enough, and lovely to look at.
Indigo Prime is a barmy joy! I have absolutely no idea... but I don't care :) Not when there's the sight of
Christ's doppelganger exploding into a tentacled mess while the real son of god gets beamed into the void
!
I too am getting annoyed again by the crass and crap dialogue in Grey Area. Is it supposed to be funny? Some light relief to counter the heavy subject matter? But despite that I'm liking the story and want to see how it ends. Really liking the washed out flare effects in the last few panels as they exit the ship.
Yup, Sam, another good prog!

I have a fear that it's heading down the Sector House 9 route. I hope to be proved wrong next week.

I loved The Haunting of Sector House 9 :)

Marvelous Prog again this week. I'm getting tired of saying similar week on week! That was a lie! I'd never grow tired of singing Tharg's praises when the Prog is THIS consistently fantastic!

Dredd is spooky as hell and I'm loving it. I know it could be seen as a bit "obvious" that there are psychic/ghostly repercussions from so much death and destruction... so in a way it would be ace if this twists away from that explanation. But if it doesn't it is still an awesome thrillride. And that art!!!

Excellent art from newcomer Tom Foster in Terror Tales, and a nice little story. Straight horror rarely works for me in comics, but the pacing between pages 3 and 4 was really well handled. Nice stuff.

Ah, Slaine has really won me over in this story. Amazing art! New depth to the character. Some lovely axe swinging. Fab! And that final page! Nooooooooo! This is too much!
Slaine not just beaten by force but defeated by despair!
Grey Area has really picked up pace for me this week! This is huge!
Global invasion by evil gods/aliens!
Nice!

Oh, and a spot of
religious heresy
in Indigo Prime. Wonderful! What is that naughty Nazi up to? And has it really been "
sanctioned by someone higher up the chain of command
"? From total confusion (for me anyway) over the past few weeks, to tense drama. Masterful!

Jesus! My thrill circuits are going to need replacing early if this year continues to be this bloody good!

Blimey Each week I think "Surely it can't get better" and each week I'm proved wrong! Absofugginglutely loving everything in the Prog at the moment!
Dredd is still top of the pile for me. Scary stuff and excellent artwork. But the rest is zarjaz too. Its really nice having the more drawn feeling of 3rillers and Grey Area breaking up the dense, gorgeous painterly awesomeness of the other strips. Ah, my cup runeth over with thrill-power.
