I remember loving the ongoing mythology when it originally aired.  It was the most enigmatic thing I had ever seen on television at the time.

Yeah I loved it too, though I was far too young to get it until it was well underway and the movie came out. I think this was part of the flaw of the mythology for me; by the time I could engage with it, I already had some suspicions that the conspiracies, secrets and more would ultimately fail to satisfy.

We'll see once I've exhausted all the Smiths that can be visited as part of my commute...

I enjoy the X-Files most as a non-linear experience. In contrast to most shows, I prefer monster-of-the-week to ongoing mythology.

Wish it was on Netflix UK.

Don't you have to pay delivery though Jim?

I'm sure that this must just be a timing thing because my local Smiths had loads of the summer special in.

Part of me knows that it is better to order direct and get the prog via subscription but it seems like the prog has disappeared so much from the shops already and if Smiths give up also then where will the new readers come from.

Yeah same on both counts. Even the Smiths in Sheen which never stocks the normal progs/zines.

Can't find this in any of the Smiths. Dave's comics in Brighton sold out the day I went to visit and Raygun doesn't stock 2000AD normally.... Will I have to venture to Forbidden Planet central london? Only to find it's lost as well?

Foolishly hoping Smiths will stock it when they put the Megazine out on Wednesday....

Sharky, is your policy on parking tickets that you haven't entered into a contract with the parking wardens so you can park where you like?

It was very clear this wasn't endorsed or official Dredd material.

I think everyone is just being a bit precious to be honest... as though this is somehow undermining how excellent the fan created stuff has been, because it's higher profile based on the people involved. Fair enough that you don't like it, but why can't why can't those who didn't enjoy it accept that others liked it? No need to paint it as some kind of insult to the source material.

QuoteI think the fact that nobody in Rebellion, or any of the creators of Dredd, have not expressed an opinion on this cartoon should tell you all you need to know.

:-* Not nobody in rebellion didn't not express no opinion?

Though I imagine there's just a extraneous not in there.

All of this said I think it's a testament to just how bloody good Dredd was since everyone agreed that it's mint :)

QuoteYou miss the fact posted and discussed earlier in the thread then that said things arent just revolving around a money issue here- its keeping artistic control over a character that, as with Stallone, if it isnt overseen and policed, can put the character back at least a decade if he's seen in something rubbish...

Did I miss the point where someone with artistic control actually expressed this opinion?

Stallone was licensed so I don't really see how it's a point of comparison other than the woeful lack of anything else on screen from the Big Meg.

I understand your points but its a non-issue until John Wagner, Ezquerra or someone from Rebellion expresses it that way.

The bootleg version of the Punisher is the only one that makes sense though. The rest treat him like a superhero... Garth Ennis got it right. He's a serial killer.

I don't see him as a prick, as long as he wants to keep making these things for free I'm perfectly happy. I don't think his stuff pisses off the property owners either, he's not making money off them. I also don't see a 'fuck you' to Rebellion anywhere in there.

If the Dredd movie had been like that, I would have hated it.

But then I don't think Truth in Journalism would've worked as a spiderman movie despite being an excellent little bit of Venom.

I really enjoyed it.

You lot are thrill-suckers  ;)

Exactly the same, except the last scene in the bar; in the pilot the girl returns and confronts John before storming out and saying she'll do it even if he won't. In the aired version, Chas delivers all the salient points instead, before weakly saying that despite getting all this information, the girl decided it was someone else's problem and left for California. Which doesn't make a compelling argument for John to give a damn!

It also makes John's ruse of getting her to think it was her idea to scry for more deaths an empty gesture.

Other than the switch of Chas and Liv, the angel's dialogue with John is a little different. John is a bit more co-operative, as opposed to confrontational and insulting the angel because he's just using John the same way John is using Liv.

The way they wrote Liv (female character) out of the series was laughable when you compare it to the original pilot. I'd hoped they show some guts and well, show some guts - kill her off brutally in the first few minutes of the second episode to show this is a horror.
