Having listened to a lot of what he has said over the years I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt although his voting record doesn't always help him.  Corbyn has the right instincts but his leadership skills leave an insane amount to be desired for my money.

Agreed.

Read Heart of darkness today while I was sunbathing by the river. Fascinating story.

I blagged a whole essay on Heart of Darkness in my university finals based on what I could remember from Apocalypse Now as I hadn't read the book. Didn't do so well on that paper IIRC.

Dan dont dare read an 80 page book? :P

You may be able to get it replaced without too much bother. I'm not an expert or anything but in my last few rentals the landlord's handymen had to replace the seals and managed to track them down and I watched em whip em out and replace. Just got to find those obscure little shops filled with all the things.

Yeah I don't think .2ghz will be a problem either, particularly as from what I gather ghz is a bit flexible in terms of abstract vs reality.

I'd get the new GFX card as honestly your rig seems perfectly fine (better than mine in some crucial ways). DX11 has been around since 2008 :-\ so I'm sure you can pick up something pretty cheap. Plus as long as it fits in your case and you've got a relatively robust Power Supply Unit, you'll be able to use your GFX card down the line if you ever upgrade the motherboard. And this does seem to be the real obstacle.

Also - just checked your CPU and unluckily, it's a 1156 chipset. Which means your Motherboard is 1156, which means you can't use those shiny 1151/etc CPUs which would give you more options for up-to-date tech. I believe the cheaper options on the 1151 would outperform most of the expensive options on the 1156. So yeah, you'll have to upgrade your motherboard + CPU.

http://filehippo.com/download_speccy if you couldn't download it.

Sorry for not replying earlier I didn't see you'd posted :( If you would like better advice from people who might actually know what they are talking about I recommend https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/

I am reading a book called Lovecraft Country, which is a Lovecraftian book featuring a cast of black characters in the 50s dealing with both the unstoppable force of racism and oppression as well as the unstoppable force of weirdness from beyond. It's really good and the two actually go hand in hand surprisingly well as both leave the protagonists at the mercy of forces beyond their control.

Anyway - what I am saying is with this currently in mind, I can see that the casting of a black woman in that period of history could make for a very interesting angle on the plot & premise. Of course if it's 6 years later then this is 1944 and there's a war on, so who knows how much it will actually tie in to the plot.

is there anything about the story that demands it be a 1980s period piece other than aesthetics?

Maybe just a timeline that connects with MK Ultra and cold war espionage. But that's hardly a necessity.

I see 'Simp' as a derogatory term that has been embraced by those it describes.

Like 'Fatties' and 'Ugly' (thanks to Mr Otto Sump), all things can be reinvented in the Big Meg.

I suppose I actually mean a send-off for Chekov which can be an homage to Yelchin as well, given they are (rightly imo) not going to recast the role.

So; a full list perhaps?

Funt
Sneck
Drokk
Grud (on or off a greenie)
Jovis (Jovis Drokk!)
Spug
Stomm
Bastich
Simp
Stak

Any more?

These join my favourites from other SF sources:
Feth (Fething, feth you, etc - From Dabnett's WH40k series)
Nass; Grife; Sprock (From Dabnett/lanning's Legion of Superheroes series)
Frack (of course, from BSG)
Kriff (Star Wars EU)
Gorram (Firefly)
Smeg (I know its not entirely fictituous word but in the ubiquitous way its used in Red Dwarf...)

Actually that would be a fun party. 3 life supports to the glass cannon.

It occurs to me that they could do a nice send off for Anton in the next movie. I mean dozens (hundreds?) of funerals happen off-screen, the next movie could start with or at least reference/show something like that for Chekov. I would prefer not a heroic sacrifice or anything so grandiose, just an SF version of the kind of tragic accident that occurred in real life.

I never really felt the lack of budget on Evil Dead as it was always god damn groovy.
